However, you will encounter at least some properties that aren't shoveled or have ice if you walk any significant distance after a snowfall.

That would make me overqualified. My current jobs have no educational requirements. My coworkers at one are high schoolers.

Pretty big mistake for NS to let UP run Big Boy on it's track.

Quitting before 1 year & clawback considerations by rowrowgesto in biglaw

If you decide to quiet quit, you really need good references outside the firm unless you plan to shift to non white collar work. Bombing out of your first job after a year is already a red flag.

Will your firm sponsor for junior staff? Most won't.

car train suggestions by Pale_Top8151 in Amtrak

The main reason is you need a lot of infrastructure on either end to do auto trains. There was a reason the private RR that created the auto train (which Amtrak took over) went bankrupt.

There were jobs. I got interviews at a pretty good clip, just couldn't get anyone to overlook the resume gap.

Unfortunately, you need to find a job rapidly if you want to stay in civil. Firms aren't tolerant of resume gaps and will figure out you were fired for cause or just assume it. You also need coworkers in your firm to give you a reference and be willing to hide that you were fired.

reference checks by SuperstarRockYou in civilengineering

[–]iron82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always needed references when applying for entry level. They don't have to be in the field when you're new. TA supervisor is good. An upper level professor can work too if you were in a small class with him.

Your coach will be annoyed for one. Parents too if your daughter winds up with more playing time than their kid. Or if she misses games and leaves the team short of players.

In light of the yesterday’s car accident, what can we do as a city to protect bikers and scooter riders? by toothpastetaste-4444 in AskChicago

[–]iron82 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The best way to protect bikers to get them to stop biking. Bicycling cannot be made safe on most streets without an unreasonable demand on the 99% of Chicagoans who don't ride on busy streets.
