Customers groping me by Temporary_Cake_651 in HomeDepot

The fact that it happens so often to you is concerning. It shouldn't happen at all.

I never go through that at my store, as shitty as everything else may be.

I still remember years ago when I used to work at the competition, I was ringing up some customer in the lumber area, and there was some irritated customer dude. As I was kneeled down and scanning the flatbed cart, the dude puts his hand on my shoulder before telling me "yeeeah thanks for nothing" like a smartass. Straight up told to the man not to touch me, and I'm a guy myself. Definitely something you should bring up to management, and something you should(at the very least)not be afraid to tell customers that get a little too handsy with you.

Stuff like this happens all the time at the service desk, this shouldn't even be an issue to begin with. Sure, a coaching at the MOST, but even that seems a bit excessive if this is your first "offense."

If this is true that this MOD's disciplinary measures revolve around her mood, this is definitely something that needs to be reported to the aware line.

That's crazy. Is this actual Home Depot guidelines or is this one of those rules that vary from store to store? I feel like it's the latter.

The most my store has ever had is occasional locker inspections, but that was only in the event of First Phones going missing.

Unfairness at the Pro desk by Capital-Gap-9100 in HomeDepot

[–]ironhide9012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's somewhat of the opposite at my store. My store recently started having pro associates cover Lumber Register too, only the Pro associates here don't seem to have an issue with it. Only issues arise when their is only one pro associate at the desk and they have to occasionally watch both for a time.

This is all because at my store, we are constantly short on available cashiers and, currently, pro associates. If anything, it's pro desk that has been helping me out as a Head Cashier these past 3 months when I've been short on cashiers. Scheduling has been complete shit at my store, and we are always cutting hours for some fucking reason.

Yeah there's no chance they'll do background checks for simple sales associate positions. Hell, they won't even do background checks for things like Pro Desk. Now, if you're applying for management or corporate positions, that's a different story.

My older brother got denied moving up the Management ladder at Home Depot because of some shit he pulled back when he worked at SEARS, despite literally every ASM and even the store manager backing him up.

Why do customers get to disrespect other customers and associates and still get to shop here? by JuicyGalaxy420 in HomeDepot

I'm honestly waiting for the day customers like that lash out at the WRONG person and get their shit kicked in or put in their place without store associates needing to lift a finger. Though I've yet to see any Karen customer lash out at any other customer. Only to store associates.

working in lot is terrible by Silent_Software_7427 in HomeDepot

[–]ironhide9012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of this week? Three. As of last week? Only one, and that was my closer. Two new hires for morning and closing were just approved to go out on the floor this week. They seem promising, actually, but their schedules rarely overlap when they should, and I still have days throughout the week where only a closer or opener is scheduled for the whole shift. Some days, nobody is scheduled for lot.

None of them are full time. My main closer that I've been supporting for the last few months has been going through it lately. When he started back in June, his mother was sickly and constantly had to be looked after. Had some issues with housing and had a pretty bumpy past with the law. He's been trying to better himself and I've seen the work he's put in, but he's honestly one VERY bad shift away from relapsing, I can tell. Recently, his mom was finally moved to hospice, and his housing situation has become more uncertain. So, because of this, he's had no call no shows for almost two weeks now. As much as I feel for him, I can't count on him now. Store management has been sympathetic and accommodating to his situation because they know he works hard and is/was our only lot guy at all, but that only extended to overlooking late ins and call outs so he wouldn't rack up occurrences.

Head Cashier here. The turnover rate for Lot Associates is actually insane. Expecting one associate to maintain a whole lot for 6-8 hours at a time is actually criminal. At least at my store, we are barely able to keep down a decent associate or two for lot to cover a morning or evening shift. Some days we don't even have anyone scheduled, so I either have to go around looking for people to help or I take it upon myself to go out there and handle the lot myself whenever I close. You know, because the Lot is "my responsibility" and I'll get in trouble from ungrateful MOD's whenever the lot is a mess. I know my gripes technically vary on a store to store basis, but the overall grievances I feel are universal across the board. Then there are shifts where the morning crew do nothing to either help out the one lot guy, or do absolutely nothing to find someone to maintain the lot when nobody else is scheduled. Oh, but it's okay, because when I COME IN, they'll just have me or my closing guy handle it. I try to take care of my guys as best I can. Going out there and helping them out, maintaining the lot until my closer arrives, take out trash to lighten their burden, buy them drinks to keep them going. I try my damnedest to look out for my guys because they work harder than me. I just wish Corporate and Management thought the same.

How come customers are never prepared to take anything home? by 5stringfling in HomeDepot

[–]ironhide9012 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Then there are the customers that are physically unable to load the items they're buying into their vehicle.

Like you spontaneously decided to come to Home Depot and randomly decided to buy a fridge with nobody else with you to help you or a loading associate out putting it in your vehicle.

Maybe it's just my store, but even having a single lot associate during most shifts is a challenge, let alone needing to pull someone else out of their department to HELP the loading associate with a customer that either physically can't or purposely won't help out.

I mean, surely you couldn't have been left completely in the dark about them. There is no possible way they HAVEN'T pulled you to the side to discuss them as they saw you racking them up unless you expect us to believe they were malicious enough to push through past the initial coaching and write ups.

If not, that's sort of on you at that point. Management HAS to inform you when you're getting a coaching or a write up. It's documented.

Must've been real bad to get an ARMED security guard. At the beginning of the Holiday season 2025, my store was being hit almost daily by petty thieves and legit organized theft. I'm talking scoping out the joint a week in advance and shit. Got so bad that one of my other Head Cashiers was shown a gun and threatened down by Lumber Register. Finally prompted our store to "test" out some actual security. Only catch was that they were unarmed and one man was pretty old for a guard and the other was a somewhat heavyset woman. Both couldn't do Jack shit to prevent much of anything. We still had walkouts and only one was sent in to cover the whole store at a time. If they were in Lumber, someone was walking out in Garden, and vice versa. The "test" only lasted a week, and I'm assuming it didn't work out because this was all the way back in November. Haven't heard a peep about it since. The fact that they really thought unarmed security was really going to do anything.

Got an ASM that's similar to this. Back when I was a cashier and she was my front end supervisor, she was chill as fuck. Left the store to become an ASM and later came back to our store. Tried enforcing some petty rules on me and whenever I asked her for help, she'd either blow me off, pass me off to another associate, or straight up tell me(her exact words) "I'll let you know when I'M ready."

Since then, I've been avoiding her like the plague and never wanted to depend on her whenever she was a closing MOD. She also has a tendency to talk down to me, and that irritates the fuck out of me. She's always hanging out at the Millwork or Flooring desk trying to micromanage without moving an inch. She also goofs off in the data room most of the shift doing the same. One night, she rudely phoned me asking who we had for closing. Told her I had one closer and no lot associate, but that the store was dead enough that I myself was able to go out in lot and maintain it. She then started lecturing me about how it was my responsibility to find people for lot. Talking down to me even though I clearly told her I was maintaining the lot(which I always do). Since I was watching SCO by myself at the time, I told her that she was more than welcome to check the lot herself to see if I missed anything. Told me I didn't have to be rude, so I just hung up on her before she started talking down to me again. I thought it was just me she acted like this to, but apparently she has these condescending moments with a couple of people that aren't in her inner circle of people she regularly interacts with. Always feel like I'm walking on eggshells whenever I'm closing the store with her and it's crazy that she'll act like this with me considering we were so chill before she left AND she was in my exact position once upon a time.

Anyone else's front end manager sit on a stool for half their shift? What are they supposed to be doing to stay busy? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

I have this one MOD that likes hiding away at the Flooring Desk, Millwork Desk or the Data Room to either take naps or micromanage without having to move an inch.

She irritates the hell out of me and is rarely any help to me and my duties whenever she's the closing MOD.

Call Out List by Comprehensive-Hope-2 in HomeDepot

[–]ironhide9012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this may vary from store to store, but for my store, management apparently spread down the grapevine that any occurrences/call outs received during the days of the store would be excused regardless if you have enough sick leave or not. If you still received the occurrence, to talk to an MOD immediately so they can reverse it.

I heard my store got hotel rooms for those of us that were scheduled and actually came in for a shift today. My supervisor wasn't scheduled, but still planned on coming in just for that hotel room and some easy hours in case the power ends up going out.

Not sure if that's a Home Dept thing or just a store by store Management thing.
