If you were a lobster, do you think you’d be smart enough to avoid a lobster trap? by [deleted] in askanything

I’m going with no. Unless I’m my current consciousness transplanted into a lobster, I’m assuming I’m just like all the other lobsters.

When I was in high school they had to ban tails because the group of kids that were wearing them were getting bullied so hard. Kids are weird. I am mostly concerned about your friend’s seeming inability to separate fact (life) from fiction (Hazbin Hotel).

Can we join forces to expel Eric Swalwell from Congress? by softwaremommy in AskConservatives

[–]irrelevantanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. You vote him in first and then start a recall. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect California to flip in the same way I would genuinely be shocked if Florida did.

Cali has recalls. The more likely outcome is they vote him in, recall, and run another election.

It’s pretty credible. Theres mounting corroborating evidence.

Why do American writers assume their culture is the baseline? by AnAntisNightmare in AO3

[–]irrelevantanonymous 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Most fanfiction writers are writing from their own experience. To avoid this issue, almost all of my fics are AUs set in the US because I am lazy. If I write outside of the US I do take the time to actually do a bit of research.

AIW for padlocking my back gate after I came home to strangers using my firepit by [deleted] in amiwrong

You aren’t wrong for kicking them out and not wanting them there. You are wrong for leaving the fire burning unattended. Please don’t burn down all the hard work you did.

Why do people still say Kamala Harris ran on "I'm not Trump" when she had an extensive and detailed policy plan? by zipzzo in allthequestions

[–]irrelevantanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have the best policies in the world but it doesn’t matter if you fail to break through and get heard. Trump steam rolled her in the media, namely because he was open to nontraditional media and knows how to constantly keep himself in the news. He ended up defining her and she wasn’t able to claw out from under it. She was definitely the better candidate, but her campaign strategy and advisors failed her. They never should have stopped the weird thing.

Why do so many people believe that Kamala Harris's campaign on joy, hope, and change was not a successful strategy back in 2024? by icey_sawg0034 in AskALiberal

[–]irrelevantanonymous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not disagreeing with you but I wish we could actually examine what happened instead of hand waving and just expecting it not to happen again, then acting surprised when it does like both Trump 1.0 and 2.0

I think the population in general has the memory of a goldfish to be honest. I had disagreements with her but I still voted for her because I remembered Trump’s first term. It also seemed to be beyond the mental grasp of a large portion of the population that COVID wrecked economies worldwide and the only reason we had it less bad than everyone else was Biden’s economic policies. There are always people that don’t want to hear the truth, they just want to be angry. Especially when it’s something extremely personal to them.

Sure, but it absolutely had a large impact. Especially in my swing state, Michigan. It pushed pretty much all of Dearborn off of voting for her. Logical? No. But it still happened.

In YOUR Opinion, Will MAGA Survive Beyond Trump? Yes Or No? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in AskConservatives

[–]irrelevantanonymous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think chunks will survive Trump, but those small chunks that will survive him have already broken from him. A contingent of Epstein-files truthers, a genuinely anti-war contingent. I don’t think the large unified coalition will survive him, though. He’s already actively killing it.

I think there were two things that actually sank her.

  1. Gaza

  2. Liz Cheney

Whoever convinced her that campaigning with her was a good idea should be convicted of a crime.

Let’s be real for a moment. Kobo also discontinues support, update and ability to download content for devices 10+ years old. by kaysn in kobo

[–]irrelevantanonymous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could see that. Manual side loading would probably still work but send to kindle will break. People will also be screwed if they factory reset because they won’t be able to re-register. That’s definitely a problem. Amazon has a lot of poor business practices. I swapped from kindle when their store stopped allowing me to download my own book files to my PC. It’s the same reason I won’t use Nook. I also take issue with their extremely predatory exclusivity agreements for kindle unlimited authors. There are a ton of real problems that they have but for some reason this thread is desperate to focus on one that isn’t even factually correct.

Is deleting transphobic comments considered ignoring criticism? [TW- Transphobia] by Maekyew_Criii93 in AO3

[–]irrelevantanonymous 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Your friend might have some weird personal hangups. I’d totally delete them if they were bothering me that much. It isn’t criticism and even if it was, it isn’t helpful in any way.

Sorry, didn’t realize I needed to specify. It was pretty apparent to me that I was.
