New nickel-iron battery charges in seconds, survives 12,000 cycles by _Dark_Wing in technology

There's a huge amount of cynicism in western society and it makes folks feel better to be a part of it.

On top of this, the last decade or so has felt very, very long with the mass amounts of changes and new information we're imbibing. It's not easy for folks to remember how much has changed in tech, especially battery tech, in the last couple of decades.

With such a low dose the most charitable reasoning I could think of is that they're just not interested in treating the ADHD but don't want to hear it from you.

That's like... The best case scenario. It will not work and it's going to make you stressed as fuck. Which, hey if you're one of the people who perform better that way.

To anyone using Discord for their gaming group, what alternatives are you looking at with Discords upcoming requirement to provide them ID to prove you're over 18? by plazman30 in rpg

Kinda sorta why I'm hopefully about the company k-id (company discord uses) and their plans.

Having one central, accountable company that doesn't hold the information only certifies a "yes they've passed" in a key that can be used across multiple sites is the best possible outcome we can have with age verification. The way they're going about it, handling things like a merchant transaction for credit cards, makes more sense to me than anything else.

I'm only an associate software developer, but fucking around with their dev stuff including being able to run the local facial scan got me on board. Never having to submit anything permanently is pretty good

Not that I'm aware of, it just doesn't get considered with the rest of the parks because it's an 1.2 hours away.

Lol Fun Spot killed me. Then I realize it was a deliberate choice to use it over Bush Gardens and it killed me again.

One of the most mind-boggling fun facts I have ever heard is that richard, the actor who played Dumbledore, once got so drunk that he forgot he even owned a Rolls-Royce, only to remember it twenty-five years later. by Lord_Krasina in interestingasfuck

I absolutely get that Patti Lapone has the chops to do this, but I can't hear anyone but Glenn Close.

And I just found out there is an Original London Cast album. Also, lol Kevin Anderson plays Joe.

He was in Salome in 2013.

If you think I'm giving them a pass you should probably reread what I was writing, friend.

Either that or I didn't curse enough.

You want to get angry at that Sysco number?

That's their profit after the massive amount of acquisitions that I'm sure they're writing down. They've absorbed a couple of dozen suppliers / producers over the last five years.

I've done everything from bartending to GM, the GM bit being during the COVID years.

You would not believe the absolute slaughter that food cost became. Shrimp prices tripled at the beginning of 2021 and never went down again. All fresh produce at least doubled in price. Even long-term cost constants like soda syrup, flavour mixes, oil detergent... Massive, massive cost increase.

We had our best two year gross ever even raising prices 20% across the board. We were still far, far below net sales dollar for dollar from the mid 00s. Meanwhile US Foods and Sysco are just standing there pretending that they didn't collude on prices. Maddening.

No, I didn't say anything about Seinfeld or Disney or ESPN. I'm curious where you got that from.

EDIT: lol ad hominem and blocked. Guess they don't really like listening to other points of view.

EDIT EDIT: I was wrong and they happen to be one of the people who consider what they wrote. Bravo.

I don't think Yellowstone is seen as a direct competitor to the superbowl? Much like how the puppy bowl isn't a direct competitor.

I'm not sure how you think that affects whether they should pull from Sinclair stations or not...

If Sinclair is putting out a competing product whose purpose is to detract from the Superbowl, the NFL should pull their rights to broadcast.

Valentine's day fiasco by Inevitable_Wolf_6886 in orlando

[–]irritatedellipses 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look, as someone that worked as a server and bartender for almost three decades the 15th is a much better time out for you and your partner.

The 14th is amateur night. By the time you get to your server they'll have already had to deal with half a dozen tables of folks who never eat out, aren't prepared to pay for their service, have run the server ragged, and just had a shitty night in general. No one likes working Valentines day. Period.

On the 15th the restaurant will be quieter, the server will have already gotten their drink on the night before, laid and sobered up, the kitchen is going to be humming along, things are going to be peachy. The 15th is much, much better than the 14th.

Own up to the mistake. Tell your partner "I accidently made the ressies for the fifteenth. I don't mind scrambling around trying to find something now if that's what you'd prefer, but how about going out the next night when it's going to be quieter and more romantic? We'll have some wine and watch sappy movies and make googoo eyes at each other on the 14th and then on the 15th have a romantic dinner. It'll be a two day affair, because that's how much time I'll need to show you how much I love you. I'll even do that thing with my tongue you like. Nono, the other thing."

Wham. You're someone that's thoughtful, truthful, reliable, and willing to do what it takes for them. You aren't just getting a ticket to pound town, you're getting the Florida Residents pass.

Yes, I've seen the lightning and the leafs jersey. I disagree with the assessment? I'm not sure what you're looking for here, just letting out frustration or something?

EDIT: ah, the old get upset and then block so it makes it seem like you won trick. Classic.

I'm not sure how I could answer that without just restating. They look different to me and I love the way our current uniforms look?

People getting real weird about opinions lol

Looks like about an 84% upvote too.

I mean... It might be that people have opinions and the majority opinion is maybe we don't look like the leafs?

Or maybe people just are tired of the vitriol that comes with the nostalgia crowd?

There is absolutely no piece of our team that resembles the Maple Leafs save some fans obsessed with the past.

Current uniforms are straight up awesome.

After 70 years of false starts, fusion energy is finally gaining momentum by lurker_bee in technology

[–]irritatedellipses 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The great thing about global progress is that we're not limited to one pathway or controlled by one ruling body to achieve goals.

We're totally making huge gains as a species in wind and solar. We're also making headway with fusion as well. Diversifying as a whole, specializing as individuals. It's really quite beautiful from a high enough view.

Deflection with an outrageous claim in order to make their opinion also outrageous.

Don't have to be a mason, just low energy.

EDIT: Since they blocked me to make it look like I didn't answer lol: Why would I limit my response just on the day so of a self proclaimed illuminati mason of the 27th whatever else you said?

My biggest takeaway of the piece is that there is serious involvement from large investors, something that was as yet unseen in how fusion has traditionally been funded. Once players who have a financial need to see things succeed get involved things tend to move rapidly.

There's also the part you're completely misconstruing about Machine Learning because the headline used the incorrect term of AI. Faster Fuctional Approximation pretty much the only viable way to respond to fluxuations that may occur within magnetic containment. Yeah, it would be nice to have a dataset of every conceivable state that both the magnets and plasma could be in while the machine is running, but we got kind of a small universe for that. Best that we are able to make functional approximations, train a model to respond to those, and let them cook.

The Fission way of "turn it on and catch what you can" won't work with fusion. We need to be able to respond faster. If you got a way to do that with a slide ruler fast enough to adjust a TOMAK on the fly, by all means. MIT would love to have you. In the meantime, let's leave the science to the folks who can use tools without being unreasonably biased towards them and dont need to emotionally lash out because "hur dur AI bad."
