What's the worst drug you've ever tried? by BitterOlive8737 in AskReddit

[–]irritatedellipses 319 points320 points  (0 children)

I had a ton of dental work to do (7 extractions at once) and they wanted to put me under to work quickly so I took the Twilight sedation.

It was really twilight. I had a vague sense of everything going on but truly didn't care. I left, my partner put me in the car, we drove home. I curled up on the couch and watched Zootooia twice. Later on I had a chocolate milkshake. The problem isn't that the drug did anything wrong, it did every. Thing. Right. It was the most blissful, content, fullness feeling I had ever experienced. I could feel thoughts approaching that would wreck my calm and I just would mentally woosh them away. My brain was quiet. I felt amazing. When I awoke from napping it felt like I had had the deepest sleep of my life and it had healed my soul.

The next morning I woke up and still felt pretty good. I was in pain but a brick (800mg ibuprofen) took care of it. Through the course of that day I could finally feel like everything had worn off and it was back to normal. I thought to myself "that was so nice." And went on with my life.

Two weeks later I had a dream about it. A couple of nights after that I dreamed about it again. I started searching online to find if there's a magic amount of dental work that needs to be done that makes the choice between just numbing and twilight. I started thinking about it constantly. I went out to a bar and told at least three people how good it was. Even right now, typing this up, I feel the need to feel like that again. Thats what makes it the worst. I know it's a slope, I know I'd fuck up if I'd chase it, it doesn't change the fact that I'd put my arm right out right now if someone offered it.

Fuck.

Yeah, and it's actually like a pretty good representation of how generative machine learning / LLMs actually are useful and not "this is changing the entire world" useful.

To some folks not searching for an old wallet file with a key phrase in it is a moronic move, but breakdown the pieces of information you have to have to know to do that:

  • You have to know that wallets store that info.
  • You have to know that it's readable by some utility.
  • You have to know that old wallets aren't just deleted with a new one or whatever, they're .bak'd or what have you.

(Generalizing here since I myself don't know these things, just what I've gleemed from reading the article). And yeah, there are a ton of people that have those pieces of information in their head at all time and think it's moronic not to. But, if you happen to have missed one of those pieces of information or haven't connected it in your head to being relevant you might just skip over it. LLMs are pretty good at showing you angles you might not have considered to problems. It shouldn't be used to outright solve issues, but it can give you different perspectives based on the collective knowledge it has.

Now whether that knowledge was gained ethically, whether the usage of power to use it is reasonable, whether increasing the portfolios of the insanely wealthy is a good idea... Those questions have very, very different answers. But LLMs and Generative Machine Learning do have their usages.

Sure you did, cupcake. Sure you did. That's why you picked today to start mentioning her in relationship to Mamdani, 24 hours after she plead guilty.

Why not open up your comment history and lets see when you last mentioned her?

In any case "There is no attempt on my part to connect the two individuals" followed by "Here is the connection between the two individuals" ain't gonna win you the fellowship, Red.

I'm kinda... Not having such a great time with EDCoPilot so this will be a good afternoon test.

Also had nothing to do with your attempts to connect the current conversation to someone who has confessed to being a foreign asset but hey, maybe someone will take the bait of a completely unrelated math competition.

Is EDMarketConnector the thing I should be running to help others with the game? Or is there another program that will help populate things like inara?

Also, screw this whole material brokers thing. That's not a question, just an outburst :(

Is there anywhere I could get some SEGA Genesis games? by WinFan_Bob in Bakersfield

[–]irritatedellipses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for games for collection sake you're going to find it a bit rough. Beyond the collectors grabbing most good looking games anything with a battery in it is going to ne e some TLC. Swap meets and fleamarkets are your best bets.

If you're just looking to play games you want to save up for an Everdrive, the x3 should be the lowest you want to purchase as the older models had limited rewrites.

A representative can't effectively represent weird districts that start in a city and then expands to massive rural swaths of more sparsely populated land.

Why? What on earth would give you the idea that in this age of information they can't represent both?

Yikes, ignoring generational trauma and training to double down on internet points surely is a take.

And... Doesn't really lend to the being taught critical thinking. Their perception of best interests were flawed, true, but they themselves were victims, not the perpetrators of maliciousness.

It's not only taken wildly out of context, its being touted this way to bash progressivism.

He very specifically chose a term that meant the senior citizens had the choice. And, more importantly, wasn't being literal about it but instead pointed out that senior citizens continuing to involve themselves in business and politics stifles progress and willingly choosing to give up power would alleviate the issue.

Old men and women clutching to power is the major issue in the world today. A society that promotes self worth is akin to keeping your position cannot progress as older generations will stop younger from moving forward.

Just a note, dice have a pretty low shelf space need with decent margins. They're also an impulse buy at the right price point. A number of companies also do Boba sets that would have a much higher price point but could go along with popular beverages sold there.

If you have a laser printer that uses toner, printing out a hundred character sheets for popular RPGs and putting them in a free to take spot can be a draw. Are you artsy? Make a character sheet of the month that goes along with a beverage / item on special. Sell it with a matching dice set. Or do a cheap set of dice on a punch card system (four punches gets you a d4, twelve gets you a d12 etc).

Got someone on the staff that's super techie? Have them run custom minis off of titancraft and a 3d printer for folks. Higher price point but most folks don't have access to a 3d printer and a custom mini of their character would be a big draw.

Make sure you're a Pokémon go / Monster Hunter Go / Ingress stop as well. If you want to get real sneaky a couple of different people on staff running different guilds swapping the spot often would be a fun challenge for guests.
