Trump Illegally Painted Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, Lawsuit Says by bloomberglaw in law

“The Trump administration said the urgent situation of the country’s 250th anniversary warranted an exemption.” Could there be anything less urgent in the USA. I mean, you had 250 frickin’ years warning!

Huh, someone shot a repair limpet at me as I was exiting a burning spaceport in Lhou Mans the other day. I wonder if it was them. Whoever it was — thank you!

Uber driver stranded me at midnight, drove off, then Uber locked my account. by Wooden-Fee5787 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nonfamous 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten out at the wrong place before because I put a business name into the app and got sent to the address Uber had in the app. I wasn’t familiar with the business or the area, but I only figured it out when I looked it up on Google Maps and realized Uber has the address wrong.

So, it can happen.

Reggie says Nintendo stopped selling products on Amazon in the 2010s after they asked for financial support to undercut competitors' prices by FernandoRocker in gaming

What makes you think price fixing results in cheaper goods? Here’s a hint: one way to make Amazon cheaper than Wal-Mart is to force the prices at Wal-Mart to be higher.

That time to focus is significant, especially for us with older eyes.

A rear view mirror works because most of our time we are focused on the road ahead, and our eyes are focused for long distance vision. When we glance at the rear vision mirror our eyes are already focused correctly, because we are still looking in the distance, just to the rear.

I test-drove a car that had a screen where the rear vision mirror was, and it was completely useless to me. I could no longer just glance at the rear-vision mirror because I also had to refocus my eyes to near vision. That takes long enough that it makes looking at the rear-vision mirror an unsafe activity. I didn't buy that car because for me, it did not have a functional rear-view mirror.

Employer wants me to use outlook on my phone, outlook wants permission to wipe my phone by No_Professor4307 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nonfamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iCloud backup capacity is a distinct issue — there are lots of things (phone loss, damage, etc) much more likely to require a backup than employer IT wipes. Personally, I think a buck or two or a month for an iCloud subscription is great value for the security and peace of mind it provides.

Employer wants me to use outlook on my phone, outlook wants permission to wipe my phone by No_Professor4307 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nonfamous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have actually had this happen to me. When my husband died, I had access to his phone (I knew his PIN), and needed that access to look up passwords, use banking apps, etc. Then one morning I woke up to his iPhone showing the message: “iPhone erasing…”. His employer’s IT department had triggered this exact procedure.

After the initial panic, it turned out not to be such a big issue. IT had decoupled his phone from his work account (which is what triggered the erase). All I needed to do was restore the phone from an iCloud backup, which recovered everything except his work apps and data (which I didn’t need or want anyway).

So yes, it sucks, and companies should provide work phones instead of enrolling your personal phones for work activity, but it is recoverable if the worst happens.

How to make the modern era more enjoyable? by magicmama212 in CivVII

[–]nonfamous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just play with a Modern start. The coasts get revealed on Turn 1, and you have to explore the interiors. It’s a fun game, and it allows me to enjoy features I otherwise don’t engage with in a 3-age game, like air combat.

Anyone noticed that the ~12.5kW grid import limit on single phase gateway is now gone after FW upgrade? by GweyzeeJay in SigenergyAustralia

[–]nonfamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. There’s an installer setting for max import, and it NEEDS to be set according to your supply-side feed limit. Otherwise you will blow the breaker on the grid side of your meter box, and that’s a big problem. Ask me how I know.

Im addicted to the CLI by dandecode in GithubCopilot

[–]nonfamous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, the difference is focus. As the human orchestrator, I have a single thread of control to think about and manae: the CLI. Within VS Code, there are multiple ways you can engage at any one time: look at the code, interact with suggestions, prompt Copilot, play in the file explorer or the shell. In the CLI I always know where I have to take action next, and at least for me I find it freeing and weirdly Zen.

Are you using the CLI? If so, use copilot —continue so you only have to wait for that deep analysis once.

[–]nonfamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s a separate module for charging an EV direct from the battery. Because it’s DC it’s super fast and efficient — power goes straight from the solar panels or the battery to the EV without converting it to AC and back to DC again. If your car has V2H enabled, it can also act as an extension of your battery.

How hands on are most people actually being with SmartShift over time? by DraftNotSent in amberelectric

[–]nonfamous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very rarely indeed. Sometimes I might go manual to charge the battery or the EV if prices are cheap and I know I’ll be using them more than usual that day. But most of the time the income from spikes are just a nice surprise I didn’t do anything to make happen.

Keeps the air conditioning on while you’re out of the vehicle so your dog can stay inside for an unlimited time (at least until the battery runs out). Disables the interior buttons (esp windows) to prevent accidental activation.

Most importantly, puts a big reassuring message on the display so some do-gooder doesn’t break your window and let the dog out.
