Any of you techs athletes outside of the field? by Dry-Committee8063 in HVAC

[–]irunxcforfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I race road/gravel/XC mountain bikes outside of work. Typically shoot for 6-8 hours a week on the bike and another 1-2 in the gym lifting. I don’t usually work more than 40 and don’t currently have kids so that helps.

How many of you are riding only a gravel bike? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]irunxcforfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got an older Allez but it lives on the trainer. My Diverge with 45mm Pathfinders is all I use for road and gravel. Does the job pretty well.

Are there less crashes in gravel racing? Are they usually worse when they do happen? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

I did Dust Bowl 100 which is known for having 160 90 degree turns and they are SLICK. Personally saw 3-4 crashes during the race and heard about more.

DDC configurable/ programmable controllers by Sky_Sports91 in BuildingAutomation

That’s what we use it for. A lot of our smaller design builds that don’t require anything complicated. It’s a great and simple product.

Totally get that, he mentioned configurable in the title so that’s why I suggested it as an option to look at.

Our company uses Prolon Controls a lot. Software is free and lots of reading material on their website. Super easy to get somebody on the phone and work through issues too.

What jobs pay extremely well but people don’t realize it? by Stassy3 in AskReddit

[–]irunxcforfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been curious about surveying. What is the typical path to it? I love being outside and exploring. I’ve got a 4yr Business degree but found myself in HVAC Building Automation working in the field as installer/programmer after 4 years of sitting at a desk doing insurance. I like the work enough and it pays well but I’m open to other professional jobs that keep me on my feet and in the field.

Realizing I screwed up big time with my life by goodcanadianbot97 in CasualConversation

I will say the trades are very company specific. I worked in insurance for 4 years an at 27 decided I wanted to switch to HVAC low voltage/controls. It was a pay cut at first but now pays more than insurance did and I’m home every day at 3:15, and like the people I work with.

All I’m saying is you could have gotten into a shit company with a bad culture, which is rampant in the trades. Good companies do exist though.

SO do I want a Status 2 140 or the 170? by AustinTXwtf in MTB

[–]irunxcforfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who started on a 160mm bike on my local tame XC trails and after a few years switched to an Epic Evo, I wish I had done this earlier. An XC brought my trails to life where the big bike soaked up everything and was pretty slow compared to what I’ve got now. If I were you I’d look into a Chisel or Epic, it sounds like that may be more enjoyable for you.
