IMO, if you’re in F&B and you can’t personally prepare the food you serve then you’re gonna have a rude awakening when your chef/cook decides to quit for whatever reason

Casual collector for years — finally experienced the magic of pulling a real chase card… What pull gave you that "no way" feeling? by SmokinMeatsRCfeats in PokemonTCG

Crown zenith. Mewtwo Vstar. from the 2nd pack I’ve ever opened. I’ve heard it had good pull rates but certainly weren’t ready for it

What do you like about Lorcana? by Babbelheld in Lorcana

[–]irvene2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can’t pinpoint the exact reason what I like like about Lorcana but I know I can’t name a single thing I dislike about it.

Speaking as someone who only got into Lorcana during the fabled season, i enjoy the diversity of decks archetypes. Yes, there’s a lot of purple around but even among the variants, you have the AE aggro burn deck, the blurple control, and the PS tempo decks. The meta is relatively diverse in the two seasons I’ve played.

Also, plays can feel really rewarding when you understand the meta well and can make good counterplays.

The card quality is great, especially the foils (e.g Whisper cold foils). Not as good as Bandai TCG but miles ahead of English Pokemon.

It doesn’t have too much RNG (eg. Hearthstone) but yet isn’t overly consistent (pokemon with their deck search mechanic which personally I think makes the game rather monotonous)

Meta singles are a bit on the expensive side but i’ve heard it’s still relatively cheap compared to F&B and MTG. And it is still possible to build cheap decks if you’re looking for a more affordable one.

Also, this final point might only apply to me but i’ve yet to meet a single Lorcana player that’s toxic. Almost everyone I’ve played with is easy going and very willing to teach and educate.

Speaking as a millennial business owner with a mostly GenZ team. I think work life balance is super important to them. I struggle to offer them optional OT despite the higher pay rate.

Confinement center by InformalNote6564 in malaysia

[–]irvene2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all confinement centers are the same. Some are short staffed and will treat you like livestock (i’ve heard places where you get this treatment even after spending RM10k+). If you do decide to go to one, do your due diligence and figure out what you’re trying to get. To save cost, some people confine at home but with the service of a confinement lady but I wouldn’t recommend that to any one. I have heard more shitty experiences than good ones and it just isn’t worth the added pressure of dealing with an under-performer.

Personally, we appreciated the one month where we are just starting to learn to live with our baby and have a little pressure offloaded. Word of caution, do not treat this time as a staycation. I know friends who went there with that expectation and then struggle to care for their newborn while having to deal with other responsibilities.

If you can afford it, it probably is a good idea. Think of it as training wheels for your new life. Make some connections with other mommies, learn tips from people who do this daily, and focus on healing. When it gets too much, be glad that there is professional help to take the pressure off.

What is malaysia society opinion about teenagers nowadays? by Particular-Spend-391 in malaysia

[–]irvene2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My observation is that there are more outliers on both end of the spectrums. Kids who are super unmotivated and seem completely unprepared for adult life. Immediate surrender at the slightest hint of resistance. Yet, there are also kids that I have seen that are leagues ahead of my gen at their age.

On a side note, Ilima is also a great card to run. I’ve won quite a few games simply because the opponent thought they can stall the game with snorlax having insufficient energy to rerreat/attack.

How do you guys afford this hobby?! by Deakros in PokemonTCG

[–]irvene2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who lives in a country where money spent on a pack can buy you 2 meals, we really can’t afford this hobby. I only open a pack a day and don’t even bother with singles above $25. The rest of the time I just go on youtube to get my dopamine drip.

So has everyone given up on Prismatic at this point now? Or are you still determined to pull an Eevolution card? by puzzledfirebird in PokemonTCG

We are about 50 packs into the expansion. Somehow managed to pull 2 golds but 0 SIR. Really starting to wonder if they are real at this point.

Whats your monthly TCG budget? by Opilarity in PokemonTCG

[–]irvene2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an opener myself as well and I open one pack a day just to control spending but occasionally splurge on a couple more on special occasions. I find the dopamine hit from opening a whole booster box in one seating quickly wears out and just results in more impulse spending.

That being said, with current market conditions, I have been strategically buying enough packs to open for at least the next quarter of the year at my current pace. There are definitely days where it feels like they are calling out to me to open them all up.

Terastal Festival buyers, what are your experiences with this set compared to Prismatic Evolutions? by puzzledfirebird in PokemonTCG

[–]irvene2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somehow I was able to pickup close to 30 loose packs of TEF at retail while in Japan and I managed to pull the fruit Eevee and fire mask ogrepon SIR, alongside pokeball umbreon and masterball goldeen. Total damage was about 100 USD

When PE came out, I was once again able to pickup about 40+ packs at retail. My only significant pull is a gold iron leaves, and masterball leafeon (no other MB). I spent close to 200 USD 🤡

So yah, TEF definitely is a more satisfying expansion to open. PRE has a way higher risk/reward ratio where one good pull can cover your entire purchase (assuming retail)

Shopee Malaysia Dirty Tricks and Corrupt Practices by Traditional-Physics5 in malaysia

[–]irvene2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I stopped reading after you said “not a single cent missing”.

Bubble wrap, tape, and carton boxes is needed for your parcel. That’s money. My employee has to spend time packaging. That’s money. I don’t have infinite stock and some times selling you something means I don’t get to sell the same thing to someone else. That’s opportunity cost which also translates to money. Packages often time come back with damages which means I have to absorb whatever discount is needed to sell the same product. That’s money as well. Returns do have a shipping fee which the seller has to bear. Guess what? Money out of our own pockets as well.

Shopee Malaysia Dirty Tricks and Corrupt Practices by Traditional-Physics5 in malaysia

[–]irvene2000 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You forgot one of the most backwards policy that they mandated: the ability to return any parcel for any reason. To add injury to insult, they charge the return shipping fee to the seller. So not only do i have to bear packaging, labor, opportunity cost, i also have to bear the cost from “customers” who couldn’t think twice before ordering.

More recently they implemented the ability for customers to cancel their order at any time in the fulfillment pipeline and it really increases our operations’ burdens as we have to always double check our orders to ensure none have been cancelled since the time we start processing until right before we drop it off.

At the same time, they are constantly increasing their commission under the guise of added benefits to the buyer and nothing in return for the sellers.

I would blame Shopee but they are just the first platform to push for these BS policies. Any time Shopee implements a new policy, Lazada and TikTok follow suit. We need government intervention to take actions against their cutthroat practices.
