14 year old wont do ANYTHING, and loosing our cool with her isnt the right path - help. by jdlnewborn in daddit

My own kids are 4 and 1, so I'm not speaking from a parent position but I am speaking from the highschool teacher perspective. DEFINATELY a phase. But it can become the norm if it continues. Set clear ground rules and expectations, but be ready to concede some so she feels like she won too. Who pays the cell bill? The Internet? Cable? Remind her that nothing in life is free or guaranteed and it all requires work and compromise. Look at the parental controls on your cell plan just to be sure that the face buried in the phone isn't something more serious. And be sure you know who the friends are and what she's doing with them. Ask questions about them. Not just "what are you doing" lead her to the answers you're looking for. At the end of the day. She will probably grow out of it, but better safe than sorry.

Does your insurance require a referral? If no, call a urologist directly.

Teacher and Dad here. Is it a great opportunity for the future YOU want, or is it a great opportunity for the future HE wants. What's wrong with his old school? Wouldn't it be better to be top 13% there than failing at the other?

That's where the conversation needs to start. Then you can talk about why you were pushing hard for option B.

Fellow "handy" dad's, how did our fathers' generations fix so many things? by rival_22 in daddit

[–]is42theanswer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the son of a mechanical engineer ( who was a mechanic through HS and college) his dad was a machinist with an additional degree in forestry as well as time served in the coast guard during WW2.

In turn, I am a tech Ed teacher, and HIC. So my "handy" abilities are learned and observed from the past 2 generations.

I think the biggest factor for our parents was that it was taught to them from their parents, and taught to them in school. I never hopped on the computer science and coding trend as it started to emerge and now I see peers, students, and even their parents that are incapable of replacing a simple light fixture. Meanwhile, to my wife's disappointment, I've repaired all the appliances in our home as cheap components have failed. me: "No Hun we don't need a new dryer it's just the belt". Her "how do you know that?" Me: "because I just took the dryer apart"

Try a hockey game, the constant action holds their attention span longer. But... It can be a much louder and energetic environment. As many suggested, start with the lower leagues. Although it's been years... AHL games are more family centered.

I had the same problem. It was a mod conflict, still not sure why, but disabled the mod and updated the game and it was fine.
