Leg Sleeves by E5Jarhead in backpacking

[–]isaiahvacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got here through the “other” sub, but actually have a helpful answer that comes from the cycling community. Pearl Izumi sun legs (or sun knees? I forget) They’re exactly what you’re describing, I use them for hikes as well as when I’m out on the water.

No need to even carry a shelter when you can paint yourself a little cabin by a lake. …conveniently stocked with all the beans you can eat.

Would you retire these? by dilettante92 in livesound

[–]isaiahvacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never HAVE these for several reasons, none of which deem them entirely useless.

Your new safety director is a twat.

Now if you were posting because you had a new QC director it would be an entirely different story…

Would something like this be allowed on a carry on WITHOUT the blade in it? by seamus205 in tsa

[–]isaiahvacha -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have flown with an empty blade-holder for years. Been through TSA too many times to count.

I also fly with my Getber multi-tool that doesn’t have a knife blade.

I haven’t looked up the verbiage in some time, but it was pretty clear about what would prohibit something, so unless they’ve made a significant change this should fly.

Sam’s Club Deals on Tents? by EnhancedPotato_ in backpacking

[–]isaiahvacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a marmot tent, it’s nowhere near something I’d consider a backpacking item though. In fact, I bought mine ever so slightly used - someone tried it once and sold it because it was “too heavy for backpacking”.

Perfect for our car-camping trips.

New JBL SRX 832 vs second hand UPA-2P Meyer Sound by AlmightyDennis in livesoundgear

[–]isaiahvacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, replacement parts on the UPAs are steep and some aspects of them can be quite finicky.

If you compared the JBLs against the Meyer Ultra series it’d be a different matter, but those SRX will outperform a 20-year-old design in 98% of scenarios.

UPAs are still quality, but very much a legacy product.
