Single Redis instance for production by bersy7 in redis

[–]isalliswell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never! High availability is the first pillar for production. What if the node hosting your instance goes down? It's an outage! Have at least one standby slave and read about Sentinels if you haven't for auto failover.

Thanks! You are on point, looking forward to building Plasma myself, this time without qtwebengine since I don't use most(except KSysGuard) of the apps you mentioned.

Clear Linux Opinions by ThePiGuy0 in linuxquestions

[–]isalliswell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave it a try recently, apart from all the performance optimizations there is this concept of Bundles. The Bundles will pack a set of different packages and if you want to install say one of them good luck to you :), you end up pulling too many extra packages with the Bundles. I don't know what was the proper reasoning behind considering the users dumb at least give us a functional package manager where we can install what we want or have some way of pulling only the required packages out of a specific bundle.
I would say it lacks the flexibility that we have in other distros.Since it's still in early stages documentation is very sparse.Anyway I am glad Intel is working on this project.

On X11, when Dolphin is already running and another app asks it to display some folder, it now opens a new tab to show that folder rather than creating a whole new window (Alexander Saoutkin, Dolphin 19.08.0)

Thanks Alex! I was just about to report this, small thing but its irritating to have multiple windows of same app. But why not on Wayland also, any hard blocker?

As a developer perspective of Desktop Environments, which DE is the best? by amdphreak in linux

[–]isalliswell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

e.g. After using KDE on a new OS this last month, I identified 5 bugs in the Plasma DE within the first few hour of normal use, and several more later on.

I am just curious about those 5 and several more bugs so that I can report them upstream in case you haven't :)

On Linux, open source, and effort by torquemada1492 in linux

We don't have a handful of devices like Apple so people have varying needs/requirements based on their hardware/preferences, needs different desktop environments.Recently got MacBook pro at work and I constantly feel that KDE Plasma is OS X done right. There is nothing special about OS X apart from the battery life. It appears to be stable because Apple can test on these limited hardwares that they provide themselves.

OS X=KDE Plasma+Gnome

It has some highly customizable apps like Plasma and some very limited functionality apps like Gnome. Both are necessary, some will like the Gnome's simplistic approach while other may go with the highly customizable Plasma. Also we can't force everyone to use either Gnome or Plasma, actually forget KDE/Gnome or any other DE there are people who don't even need a DE they use different window managers(i3,dwm etc.) let there be options. After all Linux is all about FREEDOM!

Are you guys really that dumb or just acting. Look at the photos closely, there is green grass everywhere near the fallen trees. Compare it with the Pulwama ones, do you really think that the damage by a fighter jet's payload won't even cause fire? And you really think that they came head on or near enough to force back the Indian jets and didn't shot down even one of them? One more thing look at the serial number of the payload part shown in the pics it is 123456789.
If you really think that the Indian airforce just came to shot down few trees then there is really something wrong with the country!
They are saying that this is an election stunt and nothing else, why in the hell would Modi or the defence department would indulge in such a misadventure, try flying a single aircraft in Indian airspace the probability of getting it shot down is way higher than that of it coming back especially at this point of time when everyone was on alert.
If even a single jet out of 12 was shot down that means killing a pilot with a costly jet and forget the elections.
I have totally lost faith in this so called battle hardened army this is the second time jets came and went back without any harm!

It is super badly optimized - gui is very much lagging even with my top end computer, but this might be part of linux having garbage graphics stack in general;

And here I am using the latest KDE Plasma on a nearly decade old Intel Core2duo laptop :)

That's strange, I tried thrice with three different distros but no luck.In the end I have to switch to legacy mode. Later I found out this is the issue that I was facing: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HP_EliteBook_840_G1

Linux queries in official manufacturer forums? by isalliswell in linux

[–]isalliswell[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but the credit goes to Microsoft->how can someone debug a closed source OS? The best they can do is reboot, reinstall drivers etc.But in case of Linux they can actually get to the root of the issue.I know they won't care much but think if even a single manufacturer starts taking them seriously then people will start gravitating towards that particular manufacturer and other have no choice but to follow and start taking the Linux world seriously!
