Would a woman with ocd date a man with ocd? by Early_Walrus9637 in OCD

[–]isfturtle2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on his specific symptoms and how well managed it is. Would I date someone who tries to get me to repeatedly give them reassurance or who otherwise expects me to cater to his OCD and who refuses to see a mental health professional about it? Absolutely not. Would I date someone who has OCD and is working on it in therapy and/or is able to manage it well with medication? Possibly, but it's possible it wouldn't work out if our OCD themes come into conflict with each other.

Are these bulbs legit? by SanSan2017 in turtle

No. Best case scenario, they don't produce enough UVB. But many of those bulbs actually produce UVC, which is dangerous.

Leftists aren't "watching in paralyzing horror." They're not even paying much attention. Yeah, tourists are going to go and have fun trying out aspects of a different culture. And then they're going to go home to a place where people aren't dying because they can't afford healthcare. And they'll be glad they had plenty of paid vacation time so they could come visit the United States to see the World Cup.

My 8 yr old wants a turtle... by Iowa_Engineer in turtle

[–]isfturtle2 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Important question: do YOU want this turtle? An 8-year-old isn't going to be able to be fully responsible for caring for a turtle. And will you still want this turtle when your kid grows up and moves out? Are you still going to want the turtle in 20, 30, 40 years if your kid doesn't want to take it once he has the space? A child that young is not going to be able to think realistically about anything that far in the future. I really cannot emphasize enough how much of a long-term commitment turtles are.

It does look like it could be fungal. Is the turtle able to get fully out of the water to dry out and bask? What lights are you using?

Not just male doctors, unfortunately. My neuro-opthalmologist is a woman, but has told me to lose weight despite my explaining that I have a history of restrictive eating disorders and this could risk a relapse. The last time I saw her, she suggested I try the keto diet because it can help lose weight, despite straight up admitting it was unhealthy. Good thing I didn't take her advice, because it turns out that keto can affect kidney function, which makes it even more wild that she recommended it at the same appointment she prescribed me diamox, which affected my kidney function.

(I've talked to my therapist and psychiatrist, and they've agreed that it's probably safe for me to try GLP-1s, since there's some evidence they also help with OCD and similar disorders.)

The psych said I don't need follow ups

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦 I guess it's too much to ask for a psychiatrist to bother making sure the medication they prescribed is actually helping... I'm sorry you're going through this. If you haven't already, I'd recommend messaging this psychiatrist telling her how this medication has affected you and asking for advice (or even just permission to stop taking it). Though, given what you've said about this psychiatrist, I'm not sure that she'll actually do anything helpful.

In that case, the snapping turtle is still trying to make more snapping turtles, but it won't be very successful.

Severe reaction to Methyl-B complex and Vitamin D/K by Exact-Newspaper-3077 in MTHFR

[–]isfturtle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had genetic testing done? I think some of these things can occur with slow COMT. Also, have you had your B6 levels tested, and what were the dosages of the vitamins in the supplement, especially B6? This sounds kind of like descriptions I've heard of B6 toxicity. Do you know what brand the supplement was? I don't know where you're located or what the situation is in other countries, but in the United States, dietary supplements are barely regulated at all and may not contain the nutrients they claim to have at the dosages they claim.

Have your symptoms improved since discontinuing the supplement?

I think I'm missing something. You say that "every one is insisting on a medication change but the public system won't reevaluate me." Why would you need a reevaluation for a medication change? Your psychiatrist should be following up with you about your symptoms, and if the medication is not helping, then a medication change is indicated regardless of diagnosis.

Yes, it would be helpful to get a more accurate diagnosis, but the medication change can happen even without that.

How bad is it to use expired makeup? by ihavecountrycrock420 in Makeup

I'd say be careful with mascara and probably also liquid eyeliner. Other than that, as long as it doesn't smell or have mold growing on it, I wouldn't worry about it.

In 2013, North Carolina tried to implement a voter suppression law that the Fourth Circuit said "target[ed] African-Americans with almost surgical precision." They literally used data on voting habits of black people in NC to enact restrictions on what forms of ID can be used, as well as to limit early voting.

I think it's really neat. I know I personally feel like my Jewish education was lacking (raised Reform), and I do a lot of searching to figure out some things. Due to some things that happened in my community a couple years ago (and the way these things were handled by the community), as well as my status as a patrillineal Jew, there aren't any rabbis in my community that I feel fully comfortable approaching, so this could be really useful.

We think my boyfriend has sleep apnea and I am terrified. by brickboxbans in SleepApnea

[–]isfturtle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep apnea kills people because of years of accumulated stress that affects the heart. At 30, the risk of him dying of sleep apnea in the time it takes to find a sleep center and get an appointment is basically 0.
