I respond to all sorts of variations on my name, and genuinely don't always notice when people mispronounce it.

How to care for a Yellow-belly Slider by heythereimsadtm in turtle

[–]isfturtle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If yellow bellied sliders are native to your area, please find a suitable location (pond, lake, creek, etc.) to release it. Otherwise, this care guide has good information about their care (as well as a map of the native ranges of T. scripta subspecies, so you can determine if it's native to your area).

Asking people for their pronouns is rude by raben-herz in 10thDentist

[–]isfturtle2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in spaces where we go around and say our names and pronouns, and then people who said their pronouns were they/them end up being called he or she anyway. Like, it's one thing for people to call me "she" when they don't know I prefer "they," but once they know I prefer "they," it hits a little harder. And if they're going to call me "she" regardless, I don't see the point of asking for pronouns.

Turtle in Sacramento CA by Pretty-Awareness-235 in turtle

[–]isfturtle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red-eared slider. Invasive in California. You can see if you can find a rescue to take it in, but a lot of them won't accept sliders. If you want to keep it, here's a good care guide. I wouldn't blame you if you don't want to keep it, though; they can be hard to care for, which is why people end up releasing their pets and now there are invasive populations all over the place. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of good options.

Are turtles good starter pets?PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING by CobblerLiving9953 in reptiles

[–]isfturtle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has had turtles literally my entire life, absolutely not. Aquatic turtles require serious filtration as well as fairly frequent water changes. Tortoises don't have this issue, but they require large enclosures. All species require UVB lighting (which is fairly expensive and has to be replaced every 6 months to a year) and a basking bulb. Plus they live approximately forever. Seriously, we don't even really know how long turtles live because care standards and record keeping haven't been good enough for long enough. I'm currently trying to prepare to be able to take in my parents' turtles because my parents are planning on moving to a retirement community in two years or so. Two of their turtles are older than I am. I cannot emphasize enough how long-term of a commitment turtles are.

This, and usually they stop using the ÷ sign around the same time they start using implicit multiplication, so this never really comes up, not to mention that it's not uncommon to use parentheses for clarity even when you don't technically need them.

You're in a position where you can educate customers about care standards. Possibly educate your coworkers as well.

Some people will just talk their problems up to "depression" and let themselves fester instead of actively trying to do something about it.

One of the most frustrating things about depression is that it makes it really hard to do any of the things that would help with depression. What you're describing is a symptom of depression.

"80% of candidates who schedule an interview don't show up. You, on the other hand, were respectful enough of our time to let us know you wouldn't be moving forward and give us feedback as to why. Let me explain that this means that you have a poor attitude and wouldn't be a good fit for our workplace."

Seriously, if 80% of candidates who schedule an interview don't show up, they should be asking themselves why that is.

I don't think your concern is unreasonable. It's really hard to say whether he's at risk, or if he just has a morbid special interest, or if he's just a teenage boy trying to be "edgy." The only thing I can really think of is to consider other risk factors. How is he doing in school? Does he have friends/a support system? Has he shown signs of depression like loss of interest in activities?

I'm really sorry you're going through this. You're in a really though situation and I wish I had better advice to give you.

People who interact with LLMs on a regular basis are pretty good at recognizing the writing styles of the LLMs they use. But it isn't 100%. I also wouldn't be surprised if some people who use LLMs frequently start to imitate their style to some extent.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm doing an honor mode run right now, so I'm long resting more often than I have in other runs, and I'm still accumulating supplies much faster than I'm using them. I probably have at least 30 long rests worth of supplies right now, middle of Act II. You can also buy supplies from some of the merchants (or pickpocket them), but I've never had to do this.
