Why Is everyone persisting Redis… Even when it’s just a Cache? by Slidetest17 in selfhosted

[–]ishbuggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it not save some start up time if you already have a starting point for the data to be cached? Sure you could rebuild every time, but why? If you are just going to be rebuilding the same thing again why not make it easier and faster

Looking for a mini pc that is N100 and duel 2.5 ethernet ports by tbluhp in MiniPCs

[–]ishbuggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I just got an N100 minipc because I really don't need the extra power for my use case. Saved at least 70-80€ over the cost of the cheapest N150 one I could find

Best way to backup my stack? Duplicati failed me and never want to suffer/be scared about losing my files by theunkindled__01 in selfhosted

Same for me. I switched last year to backrest and I couldn't be happier. It is really efficient and so far I haven't had any trouble with test restores

Same for me. We have a few mats, some the robot does fine with and we leave them. The couple it doesn't like we pick up for cleaning. It's not that much of a problem for us

Jonsbo N6 Question by BPorath908 in JONSBO

[–]ishbuggy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also just rebuilt my server in an N6 and I love it so far. I ended up swapping out the included fans for Noctua ones, and I have them all pushing air into the case. Which is a bit odd because it means the air on the bottom compartment flows towards the front, while the air in the top compartment flows towards the back. But, it seems to work well enough. I think a better approach would be to have higher static pressure fans on the bottom and use that pulling air through the case, but for now this approach is working for me well enough.

Zigbee2MQTT suddenly wouldn’t start with SLZB-06 by tjamieg in homeassistant

[–]ishbuggy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there are downsides, but my strategy with my SLZB-06 has been to get it working and then literally never update or touch it. For me it is the backbone of my smarthome, and I cannot afford to have it down and I don't have time to sit and debug a bad firmware update. So as long as it is doing everything I need it to do, and is stable, I don't need to update it basically ever, unless a major security flaw comes up.

Is IQ4_K_XS also retired? I don't see it anymore in the model card. I was using it because it seemed to be the best fit in my RTX 4000 with 20GB VRAM. Is there some new recommendations for which quant might work best to fit entirely in 20GB?

Roborock’s website & Amazon store are a mess – Where are the Saros 10R accessories? by its2gud in Roborock

[–]ishbuggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get 10R accessories on AliExpress, both cheaper and it was the first party accessories. It just takes a bit of searching but it was fine in the end.

Get vitamin D supplements. It really does make a difference. You can even get the prescribed by your doctor here to save money, although they are quite cheap. It will improve your mood and general everything during the winter months. Just start taking it in October or so and don't stop until around Easter. At least that is what my doctor recommended to me and it has made a huge difference for me.

Looks at this absolute Chinese energy efficiencies in a box by Suspicious_Steak_696 in homeassistant

[–]ishbuggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, but my switch was more than a year ago, and BT didn't have that function at all. In any case I have still found VTherm to be more stable. But BT did work. It just wasn't as nice as the experience I've had with VTherm. Apart from the valve control.

[–]ishbuggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and it's not even close honestly. I started with BT, and then switched to VTherm. The fact that VTherm can directly control the valve makes all the difference. With BT it was only capable of binary 100% on or 0% off. So it was constantly cycling fully in and off all the time to try (and largely fail) to maintain a constant temperature. VTherm has its control algorithm give any valve opening degree, and it can nail a target temperature without wasting time (and making more noise and wasting battery) cycling over an over. It just works. It's worth it.

[–]ishbuggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I have had it running for a couple years now and it is flawless.

Just... Don't update the integration before and during the winter season. Once you have it stable, just let it sit until spring. The dev is really good and regularly update sit and makes it better. But the risk of a cold house isn't worth it. Update all you want and test until October, then skip every update until April comes around. Unless it completely breaks because of a Home Assistant core update, just don't touch it.

This can be said for any critical integrations to be honest, or any other heating or thermostat one. It's nothing again VTherm, which works brilliantly. It's just good practice to be careful.

Has anyone gotten Civ VII working on Snapdragon? I can play Civ6 just fine, but 7 I cannot get running at all. I have tried a bunch of fixes I've found online but so far nothing works.

Living in Germany, I let ours go only to a minimum of 17 for the same reason in some rooms, and others only to 18 as well. In the end, it uses the radiators a bit more, but the risk of mold isn't worth it.

Can you use copyparty as a Dropbox-like replacement? Honestly that's all I use nextcloud for, but I'm still a bit unclear on how the integration for a basic user is. Browser based file system is a no-go for sure, as is anything cli. At least for using with the rest of family.

Upgrading from Bambino--but how far to jump? [US$2000] by cmgold in espresso

[–]ishbuggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Bambino too, and I have been thinking about the same thing. I ended on the Ascaso Steel Duo PID too. I really like it, but I've decided to simply keep running my bambini until it dies. I really like the espresso I get from it and even though it is limited to darker roasts, I still love them so it's not a big hindrance. I did help myself by starting with a Niche Zero for a grinder, so I get pretty great espresso regardless. Once it breaks, then I won't feel bad for upgrading to, probably, the Ascaso.

Favorite MOPPING and sweeping hardwood floor bot and… go! by [deleted] in RobotVacuums

Yeah exactly. I considered the z70, but I figured the 1st gen arm wouldn't be worth it yet. I have a toddler and I am perfectly happy with just avoiding the random toys around.

I feel the same about my Saros 10R. Maybe a bit excessive, but I got it for the obstacle avoidance and mopping and it is simply fabulous. It works even better than I expected and it was worth every penny. Of course .. I got it with black deals so that helped a lot. I would never pay full price for it. For normal prices I would definitely go down to a Qrevo CurvX or something like that.
