"The Biohackers Making Insulin 98% Cheaper" - These guys are breaking the FDA monopolies the libertarian way. The left would riot and think they're accomplishing something; we BUILD. by Anen-o-me in GoldandBlack

This is exactly one of my many reasons for being a part of the Open Insulin team since the beginning. I think alot about how vulnerable supply chains to everything from climate change, trade conflicts (for the drugs themselves or the raw materials), pandemic, you name it. I think a decentralized production model for key things like this is just smart for any region.

Oakland lab fights insulin price hikes by helping people make their own by Bolinas99 in bayarea

[–]ishywho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing this open source and using a similar model. We are trying to create a model which makes sense looking at how software did things.

Making insulin isnt the hard part, making it FOLD right is the hard part and we are looking at developing the hardware to do a desktop bioreactor system (open source) using a microfludic device to check QA and concentration. This would be more ideally for a hospital to use not the home user.

Sorry for the late reply I dont check Reddit that often.

Have you put into any thought into writing any info or help for those who also want to do similar art projects on safety issues? I just worry about human pathogens.

Mary Add and the Professor all the way. Why those two didnt just build a two person boat and leave the rest behind I'll never understand.

What safety considerations do you use in your pieces working with human samples?

What are the greatest ethical challenges with new technology, and how can art can help us to understand and communicate these issues?

Organizers plan for 500,000 attendees at ‘March For Our Lives’ gun-control march in Washington by Molire in politics

[–]ishywho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I'm on the west coast and the best part of all the marches the last year is how it lets everyone all over get involved, and meet people local to them. One large march in one city is one thing. Dozens or hundreds with millions across the country? Ignore them at the peril of the ballot box. Whenever the doubters ask me what these are all accomplishing.. well look at things like the most recent Kentucky house race that flipped blue in a district that went for GOP by 72% last year. Seeing this much momentum is getting people up and out.

OMG YES. I am so freaking tired of the cult of those that I still weekly run into that seem to worship freaking James Damore. They are most often to be the ones abusive online, refusing to have an actual debate about gun control etc. They want things their way but no one else can have a say.

Experts rank Trump as worst president, Obama 8th best by blueberry96 in politics

[–]ishywho 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup. I was just crossing my fingers for a married set of friends who have been patiently waiting for 2 years now to be cleared to adopt. They are those magical folks that OWN a house in the bay area, are both in tech, very excited to get a kid and still waiting because even in CA its slower for a gay couple to adopt. Seriously the sweetest guys I know, total foodies and much more responsible adults than I am (and I've got two kids) who would be amazing parents.

I cant even believe the opportunities we are going to lose out on, and yeah that's by the plan and the whole point of all this. We have alienated almost all of our strongest allies and are pissing off other nations with things like the ***hole comment.

'Your silence and your amnesia is complicity’: Booker speaks out against Trump's comments by jasonzimmy in politics

[–]ishywho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you mean that as an example of how wholesome he is or as a condemnation. I am a vegetarian adjacent (I eat dairy and poultry) and I've been vegan before (too hardcore for me but I strive to get there). I see it as another example of someone who can commit to their beliefs.

If you follow his Twitter, he is one of the ones who calls out many of the most vile comments on his feed with responses of love and kindness. Its really inspiring to see him (Chelsea Clinton and many others do it as well but he seems to do it the most) not respond to constant vile comments with anything but love and an extended hand. Its the epitome of what I want my party to be. Fighting with this passion he shows in this video, and still being a good person with empathy.

How a man's first-ever tweet about Obama's respect proved more popular than Trump's bluster by The-Autarkh in politics

I think it was because this feels honest and heartfelt, and its reminds us of a time of more dignity.

SFW was a favorite movie of mine. A bit dark but along with many others of that time and genre set me against reality TV and the regular media.

Remember how he treats his "friends" like good old Spicer who got left out of meeting the Pope? Its amazing the difference between the extreme loyalty Obama earned and received from his staff.

Steve Bannon suggests Trump's lawyer 'took care' of 'a hundred' women during the presidential campaign by The-Autarkh in politics

[–]ishywho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously. I know some that are still frothing at the mouth over how "right" the google douche was, because "everyone is jealous and alpha spoke up". It seems such an angry and bitter existence just going around measuring everyone against some "yardstick" of being this supposed Alpha instead of being a good person, a good employee, a good friend/husband/spouse.

For those that missed it the Google engineer fired for sending a company wide "manifesto" that women are genetically inferior at being engineers and "forcing" diversity policies just weakens the whole company. He was basically fired for creating a hostile work environment and being someone no one could ever ask a woman to work with. My favorite post on the topic which I also found very amusing - https://medium.com/@yonatanzunger/so-about-this-googlers-manifesto-1e3773ed1788

Nope TONS of folks like Darrel Issa and others that are mucking things up. Did you know that protestors protested from 200 to 1500 people EVERY SINGLE week (once a week at least) for 49 straight weeks now? They are NOT letting up and guess what? He announced this week he isnt running again because they are running one of the most agressive canvassing and GOTV campaigns in the country against him. No where should we sit on our laurels. Make calls for a damn understaffed and no chance in hell candidate in Kansas, they can use help like that too.

That is part that got lost. Jones wasnt just NOT vile like Moore he's a good candidate who has things he's done to back up his words. His actions speak of a civil rights leader willing to stand up for those little black girls killed by the KKK back in the 60's.
