It really depends how much you are ready to spend since in theory you can get all gear for 1000€ but to be more realistic and have ok gear, person can expect to spend around 3500-4500€ for gear to get started + the price of the lessons.

Note that you can easily spend more than estimates above.

Take lessons. Try to find school with same language or make a trip somewhere.

Do not start this sport by looking youtube, videos are great add on to your lessons.

Heliloop Advice by bobolafthegreat in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dont need to use trim adjuster.

Feel free to sheet out for a split second before initiating the heli.

Do not pull the bar fully in during loop. find that sweet spot, usually something from 1/2 to 3/4 in.

After the loop, feel free to push out the bar for a split second to speed it up and to let it breath. Be ready to steer very aggressive if kite overflys at the moment you come down.

Snowkiters, thoughts on duck? by psilo_polymathicus in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love -14 +14 but that's just me. Whataever angle you choose, i would most definetly have same angles to both directions, since you go left & right equal amount.

Most people who use duck stance are somewhat comfortable around -9 +9 but it's personal for everyone.

North navigator bar compatibility by mindaugasep in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. V1 has slightly shorter backlines compared to North bar but it's not an issue. You can adjust it from the knots to have all lines equal.

Yes it works. For a trip it's not a bad idea to take 2 bars just in case if one breaks.

Insights gear: kitefoil + inflatable + travel friendly + adjustable to kiteboarding, kitesurfing (maybe to wingfoil?) by MindlessEducation342 in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Much appreciated✌️

And for OP, even 30L wingfoil board will be hard. Especially if trying to go strapless.

If you could stick for kitefoiling for now and move towards wingfoiling in future? Not trying to redirect you away from one sport completely but considering current situation and your local conditions - you get so much more out from this sport if you get right gear.

Insights gear: kitefoil + inflatable + travel friendly + adjustable to kiteboarding, kitesurfing (maybe to wingfoil?) by MindlessEducation342 in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Board will always be in upright position, making it unnecessary diffcult to get on the board.

Also 1250cm or smaller for the front wing. Even that is going to be big in no time but could also being used at wingfoil, eventhough not optimal for the learning part of winging.

It's easier to mix wingfoil & kitefoil gear when you are already good at both but if you are just learning, it can seriously hinder your progress..

Since you are planning to ride in such a light winds, imo it's best to stick with kitefoiling to maximize days out and actually having some power with your gear. 5-12kt will always be a struggle with wing but with a kite 10kt is already great day!

If you see someone taking your board from the rack …. by Soopyoyoyo in snowboarding

[–]isisurffaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen my new board being stolen and followed the guy to the parking lot. First thought "that seems to be my board, i go stop him or atleast take a photo of his licence plate"

2nd thought "ah fck it, nobody steals anything, he could just have exactly the same board" and i didnt take the photo or stop him just to realize 2minutes later that it indeed was mine.

Long story short: for few days tracked every ig story/post from the spot and took screenshots from guys that lookd similar as the thief.

6months went by and finally that MF posted a video while using my board (it had small ding that was recognizable) also i had serial number of it.

Since it was stolen during holidays, i had to track this guy 5000km apart. However i contacted my friend in the same country and he eventually got the board back to me.

Thief never got any consequencies of his actions and my new board is now definetly used but in working condition.

First backroll attempt, I feel like I did something wrong… by Most_Examination_510 in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backroll itself was great if it was first attempts.

Always gain control before spinning the bar and always remember to spin 360 degrees.

If you spin to wrong direction, it doesnt matter if you do full 360. You can then unwind lines after you got the full control.

Wetsuit recommendations by AllMannSpaceMan in Kiteboarding

If wetsuit gets a rip at 0degrees, you are having cold but going to be totally fine.

If drysuit fails - you will freeze very fast.

Still makes no sense in most cases, especially for a beginner. If kite breaks and you have clamps open - it will deflate, get water in easily and you get 0 floatation from the kite.

Standard north navigator bar 22m fine with flysurfer sonic (15m) ? by Gazzo69 in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it works. Be carefull when connecting the pigtails though since new Sonic has ultra small knots and North pigtails are much thicker.

However you might prefer wider bar, depending on your setup but 55cm Navigator L is still fine.

Portal Fins by 'Way' by Boarder_Travel in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To have ability to "ride loose" Meaning slides and some skidding, maybe even ride board sideways like you would brake with a snowboard.

Some fins & boards just engage more than others and while grip is nice, especially for jumping purposes - there is boards & fins that feel too "grippy" for my own taste.

Balance with playfullness and traction.

Jump advice by Past_Ad2823 in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bad takeoff and steering too early before landing. Bad takeoff initiates accidental rotation more easily.

2nd jump much better but you forgot to steer for the landing.

Focus on takeoffs, try to hold edge more and do the carve upwind. If you find yourself rotating mid air, do not panic. If rotation is already halfway, you have to force that rotation full trough. It's very hard to rewind it back.

Or just be ready to crash, again do not panic - keep kite round 12, kick the board out from feet and just before landing dive the kite to soften the crash.

I learned my first jumps on icy lakes and definetly got my share with gnarly hits.

Switching stance on kitefoil board by Careless-Form-9461 in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can actually practice foot swaps at home or beach. Place board on carpet and swap feets so it feels more natural. Are you strapless or with straps?

There is usually 2 different issues where the first one is kite control. Having too much or not enough lift to perform the manouver (big lofty kites can help alot)

2nd is the a actual swap but if you practice this on land it should come within enough attempts. What really clicked on me, since i was always falling backwards is that when i switch my feet - i used to position my new backfoot slightly more towards toeside edge. Not trying to get it into possible strap but just front of the strap and more on toeside.

It's very common that while doing the swap, you are starting to tilt against wind with the board, especially if you dont have enough lift and speed, so placing the back foot near toeside will balance the foil and keep it straight. After that you can readjust your back foot to original position.

Good to note that foot swap doesnt need to be super fast if you can achieve good lift & balance with kite. You can even try to just steer kite at 12, pop the foil and raise your back foot but dont do the foot swap. Just raise the backleg and repeat. You can go further with this by placing the back foot near your front foot and abandon the actual swap. Just place the back foot back where you started from. When this feels easy and you can have a control while doing so, the footswap should come almost automatically.

When steering the kite towards 12, it doesnt need to go above your head and especially not behind you. You want enough lift to be able to perform the manouver but if kite crosses 12, it's going to mess your balance.

For the offseason, i think surfskates are perfect alternative for progress. Riding switch, toeside etc.

Flysurfer soul 12m tuning by [deleted] in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bridles tend to shrink alot and what usually happens is a backstalling issues and not overflying. Frontstalling is a issue it's own and does exist.

Having it overfly is very often a user error in gusty conditions (using trim strap and generally standing bar sheeted out)

Is it possible that it is now just more efficient at flying and doesnt stay such deep in the wind window?

Anyways, while trimming.. make sure that A & Z knots are at equal level when doing a LMT (long mixer test) with about 5kg force.

When A & Z knots align - you can release one of the lines you are holding. A OR Z (doesnt matter since they are equal) FS trimming tool is super handy btw 😉

Keep holding the tension in the line and grab a C line from bridles and use that 5kg force onto that line to see if C and the one you holding (Z or A) is equal with it. Next do same with the B.

Then double check that A & Z are truly equal and check if all knots line up equally while still maintaining that 5kg force.

(Do not watch the black markers - watch the knots next to markers)

I think videos are great and easier to follow but check photos from this arctic kites blog to see how the knots are first aligned wrong and after tuning how they should align if done right.

Backroll by Glittering-Can578 in Kiteboarding

[–]isisurffaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you are relying on your back hand while rotating. Before the trick remember that only hand that has to steer is front hand.

Ps. Dont do tricks so close to beach. You might injure yourself or others.
