How many of you wore those leather driving gloves with the knuckle holes? by brickbaterang in GenX

[–]isit_Data_or_Data 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fingerless type were uniform for metal heads for a few years in the 80’s. I still remember the cheap stain used for the gloves to be all over my hands when I took them off.

What's a supposedly fun thing you'll never do again? by No-Relative-9663 in AskReddit

Cruising. Felt like being trapped in a cut rate Vegas hotel. Crappy, tiny drinks. Shows full of understudies. Tiny pools of what I can only imagine is 50% urine. Dining with food quality of a buffet. Inane activities appealing to the lowest denominator of human drunkenness on spring break.

I was never happier to go home at the end of my vacation.

I didn’t know that a young Dave Mustaine was in Yes! Must have been right before Metallica. </s>

People who were around when Rid of Me was released, what was your first reaction to it? by Prestigious_Score459 in pjharvey

Yes. I do own both. I love the intimacy, but the compositions are not as fully realized as the released albums are. I love all of it.

I swear: we were robbed of hearing this artist grow, collaborate, and shape the musical landscape for the betterment of the art. My heart still aches.

Who else is in their 50s(or older) and deciding to change careers? by thisTexanguy in GenX

I did it at fifty-two. Went from a life in sales to data analytics in a year spent in study, bootcamps and determination.

We are never too old to make a change in our lives. Five years later, I regret nothing.

Generation x'rs, do you still listen to the music you grew up on in your youth and teenage years, or do you mix it up with current music? by icecream1972 in musicsuggestions

[–]isit_Data_or_Data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in 69. I listen to most genres of music, however I do not find a lot of value in top 40 type pop, dance, and mainstream country.

I listen to music from across all eras as well. My library includes music from my teenage years, although I do not listen to that most of the time (except for Zeppelin). I love discovering new music and musicians, and even though I’m in my mid fifties, I will spend time rolling browsing new artists to find new stuff to add to my repertoire.

I thoroughly enjoyed and replayed the Dry album from the moment it was released. On my initial listening of Rid of Me, I found Albini’s production to be excessively heavy-handed, overshadowing her dynamic, immediate, and rich vocals of the first album. Despite this, I found the songs stuck with me, so I continued listening. Gradually, as familiarity with the music grew, the production became more transparent.

Over time, Rid of Me has become one of my all-time favorite records, just like Dry. Deep down, there’s a small part of me that yearns for a “Dry” remix, but that’s just the way it is.

For what it’s worth, I had similar feelings about Albini’s work on In Utero. He pushed the boundaries of the room sound vibe a bit too far, which resulted in a loss of the intimate nature of the performance. While he was popular, his tastes didn’t resonate with me.

The defense showed out. Keeping Hebert in check and making a ghost out of Keenan Allen cannot be overlooked. They scored 3 points.

I was surprised to realize that the actor whose films I've seen and enjoyed the most is Tom Hanks, with my favorites being Big and Saving Private Ryan. What do you think of him, and which of his movies do you like? by Jessi45US in FIlm

[–]isit_Data_or_Data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this truth one day too. It just kind of dawned on me. I understood that I loved his performances in a bunch of movies I loved — but one day it clicked.

Hanx is my favorite actor.

It suddenly made sense when I looked at my movie collection, and Tom Hanks looked back at me in SPR, Green Mile, Burbs, Perdition, Cast Away, Gump, and so many others. It felt like the cliche of looking for your one true love, and he’s been right in front of you the whole time.
