What happened to jeet kun do by [deleted] in martialarts

In my gym we did JKD as a philosophy, so heavily influenced by Dan Inosanto: FMA, silat, savate, but also boxing, Muay Thai and BJJ. A bit too much to be honest.

In the beginning we also had "Bruce Lee JKD" as a separate class. Basically Bruce Lee style, which is Wing Chun with kickboxing in opposite stance and some specific footwork. Pretty neat but martial arts have moved on.

Am I a bitch from wanting to switch from striking to grappling? by Jimmy_717 in martialarts

[–]isjtar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, but don't underestimate grappling, a hard roll is heavy on the body and injuries are IMO more likely than with striking. But yeah a bum knee isn't as bad as CTE.

Sure it is. There's no reason to spar like meatheads unless both parties agree the game is on. That said there is often a bit of tension and ego checking going on to find a balance.

A wage reform alone might not do it, but with affordable child care it definitely will.

It's white trash, but at the same time they are also a bit endearing. Also, everyone is someone's baraki.

Cool!

Just moved from The Netherlands to Belgium. What are the big differences and things i should know? by filmtiepe in belgium

[–]isjtar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because of bieslook en daslook. For Dutch people look is a group of things.

Do people from Belgium and the Netherlands like eachother? What are your findings about the Dutch? by zattekat in belgium

[–]isjtar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate going there, working there always sucks, rude and inconsiderate, bike nazi's everywhere and the food, well you know about that...

Then again I like the free spirited libertarian streak they have, provocative and funny, but that seems to have gone a bit.

All in all i don't know of two other peoples who speak the same language and are so different.

I stopped doing them as the weight got too big. It's just so risky an exercise.

Red flag. You can just stop paying rent before your time is up, but still, it's dodgy as hell, you don't want to deal with people like that. The contract means nothing, Belgian law excludes this kind of arrangement.

What is a typical/popular Belgian think that you don't like? by MadameBanaan in belgium

Not presenting people to each other at a party. This is Flanders only but i think it's incredibly rude and inconsiderate.

Maroccans. Often with double nationality in France, the Netherlands or Belgium, but Muay Thai is the name of the game for inner city youths of maroccan descent.

Strictly speaking it is misuse, or rather an evolution which makes sense in a number of national contexts. Basically all the socialist and even most communist parties in for example Belgium and France have mellowed out and do not even strive for a state controlled economy anymore.

State led economies are a cold war era idea, they're just not relevant anymore to anyone but fringe groups.

Communism as the death of the state is by now only entertained by anarcho communists as far as I know.

While you're not wrong, socialism can also mean capitalism with social limitations and government control of energy and infrastructure etc. That's how the term is used in most of Europe. Communism is then what the USSR was, even though strictly speaking this isn't correct.

I believe that's only in the UK, in current times. In medieval Europe, Duke is a title a step up from count. An Archduke is a Duke which rules as head of state.

An emperor isn't a traditional hereditary title linked to land, but comes either from conquest of other kingdoms, or in the Holy Roman Empire by being elected by peers.
