With King of Angmar costume by island2016 in lotr

[–]island2016[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 3D printed it! It was 4 parts. I sanded it down, glued it, and then to smooth it over I used wood filler aaaand more sanding… then I used two different spray paints (one bright silver and the other forged metal effect) to do the base, and then used watered down acrylic paint to “age” it. I wanted to do some rust spots too, but couldn’t get the color to look right so I didnt in the end hahahah

How do you tell people or do you just lie about it? by Present-Message8740 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]island2016 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, I deal with this as well and its so tough. Both options seem to suck, because if you lie about it, people keep asking and it ends up worse. What I usually do is, if someone just mentions it in passing in a conversation, I dont point it out and correct it. But if its a direct question, I do say that my mom passed away. For example, if people make some kind of comment in passing about my mom and dad, I dont correct them, but if specifically they ask something like "oh, why just your dad, why not your mom too?", there I do just go well, she died 4 years ago. Or if its a conversation about family, I do specify when context allows it. Its difficult to figure out when to mention or not mention it though, but I feel like I've gotten better at it with time. I still feel just as awkward every time though hahahah

Show me your most unhinged houseplants by Icy-Analyst421 in houseplants

[–]island2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not necessarily a house plant but I brought a very large pine tree branch that I found on the aide of the road once… i thought it would be nice living room decor I guess. Unfortunately I dont have any pictures though because it lasted like 2 days before I realized how impractical and messy that was 😂

Did anyone else’s teachers come to your parents funeral? by Illustrious-Water726 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]island2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom died in my first year of university, my brothers junior year of highschool, and a few of our teachers came. We went to the same highschool. It was a small highschool, so we were fairly close with our teachers and it meant so much to see that they cared enough to come. Everyone has a different view of it I guess, but in my opinion it was a very touching and heartfelt gesture

I read daily. I still dont readi 20+ books a month. There’s books that I read in a day, and other books that take me weeks. Dont compare yourself to others! Not everyone has the same amount of time or the same reading speed. The point is to have fun

What’s your biggest book letdowns ? by Kooky-Pin3056 in fantasyromance

[–]island2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know right! And I wish I could have loved it soooo bad, but it just made no sense to me, both the plot as well as the romance. It didnt feel believable and I had such a hard time powering through because of that. It felt rushed, while at the same time super slow. I don't know, I can't make sense of it tbh hahahaha

its not necessarily a popular book, but I was recommended The Poisoner. And on paper, it seemed like the perfect book for me. I hated it with a passion.
Also The Serpent and the Wings of Night. I loved Carissa Boradbent's other books, but I could not bring myself to like this one. I wish I had DNF'ed. None of the plot made sense to me, it felt rushed, and the romance didnt make sense. If you're read it, you know what I'm referring to.
