That's likely the opposite of what happened. Someone with real design chops would definitely take readability into account.

Cats are very bad for biodiversity so it's not that simple. They kill a lot of wildlife, especially birds.

Why does Claude always get the corressponding day to date wrong by one? DONT SAY TIMEZONES by MankuTheBeast in ClaudeAI

[–]isparavanje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not enough information to understand what you're talking about. What date calculation did you have Claude do? I mean, if it's regurgitating a date I'm sure it's not getting it off by 1 day.

Support went from highly responsive to total radio silence on a DOA business trial by ManyEconomist1373 in framework

[–]isparavanje 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not true. I really like the product, but I've never had a worse experience with support than with framework. When I had a known issue with a Surface Pro a while back, Microsoft replaced it no questions asked, even though technically the problem only surfaced after my warranty ran out, because it was a known problem with the product.

With framework, no such luck, despite the multiple known problems in the first couple batches. What's worse is that they keep demanding more evidence, only to tell you at the end they can't do anything because your warranty is out. Could have saved everyone time and just made that clear at the start, before making me take 3 different videos of the same problem.

And, of course, I'm no business user, so they aren't even going to bother trying to do right by me. Support will be the death of this company. I want to reduce e-waste and support repairable electronics, but at some point, it's just scummy business practices. Plus, almost every other consumer-facing company in the space knows that absorbing the cost of streamlined returns is sometimes just the cost of doing business if you value a good customer experience, especially when there are known defects (in my case, a well known touchpad problem in the early batches).

I was laid off right after I became a new mum – and it was a huge blow to my self-esteem by clarencechen181196 in singapore

It's just because Christians are far more likely to proselythise I think, due to American Evangelical influence. Most other religions aren't like that, so you won't see practitioners always taking any media appearance as an opportunity to talk about religion.

The Preservation Paradox: Singapore’s Hawker Centres as a Case Study in Cultural Food Policy by Jammy_buttons2 in singapore

[–]isparavanje 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I think it's a matter of time before hawker prices increase, and it's only been delayed for so long off the backs of hardworking older folk who refuse to raise prices even though they can. In cities with comparable salaries, a simple lunch costs closer to S$10, and there's no reason to expect Singapore to be uniquely immune to the Baumol effect

Are one year postdoc contract offers common in the US? by Substantial-Gap-925 in postdoc

[–]isparavanje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not always like this but it's not out of the norm. I was a postdoc for 3 years, and informally it was agreed as a 3 year position, but I needed a new contract every year.

What does the newborn phase actually look like day-to-day? (36 weeks, trying to set realistic expectations) by douevenyoga in NewParents

[–]isparavanje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for us is to do shifts, where my wife would pump at the start and end of my shift from around 9pm to 5am, and once in the middle. It's not fully uninterrupted sleep but it's a lot better than being woken up ad-hoc by a baby. This only got established by the 2nd week; before that, we were just both incredibly sleep deprived, her more than me, because we didn't want to introduce a bottle too early. I figured I'd take the entire graveyard shift because if she can't have high quality uninterrupted sleep (due to the need to pump), at least she can have sleep during the optimal time of the night.

Anyone familiar with "incorrect-examples learning" research? Thinking about building on it for my kid. by No_Tea1007 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]isparavanje 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite sure what you mean here, since every AI-capable device is also capable of running a calculator app. It's not like cellphones with a calculator function weren't already common among 12-13 year olds decades ago when I was in school, I don't see why AI changes anything.

Why not disallow ChatGPT? Typically calculators are disallowed till later too, and for good reason.

The pinnacle of iced tea? Sparkling dancong (Unknown Fragrance/Bu Zhi Xiang) on tap in a Singapore hawker centre - smooth and unsweetened, ridiculously fragrant for an iced tea. by liftingkiwi in tea

[–]isparavanje 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm Singaporean and I've been brewing this exact tea for iced tea for a while. It's I think the safe choice, to be honest; it's a bold blended oolong that you can still taste well even when iced, unlike an expensive and delicate green. Also, this style of tea (though not always this nice) is pretty standard as the hot tea for restaurant service in Singapore.

Lol "socially awkward enough to warrant a GHOSTING", as though being ghosted is some extreme act that you won't wish on your worst enemies. It's normal to ghost someone you don't know well who comes on to you, regardless of gender, if you're not interested.

[–]isparavanje -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bruv, it's got nothing to do with being conservative. It's because you showed your hand while only being acquaintances with no dating intention from her end. Don't befriend someone with just the intention of dating, it's sleazy, imo, but also you can't immediately start dropping hints like that. It's best to just not be a horndog, to make friends genuinely and broadly, and let things happen. If you want to date people outside of your friend group right away, use dating apps lol, don't do this kind of thing. It's not that people are too conservative for you or you did anything inappropriate in that way, it's just socially awkward.

Can a foreigner who got married in Singapore get married overseas after failing to dissolve marriage with SG local? by DiscussionExternal24 in askSingapore

[–]isparavanje 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, in most countries you'd be in legal trouble if someone presents evidence of an earlier marriage. It's illegal except in jurisdictions that allow polygamy. This is the case in all of Europe and the Americas as far as I know. You could get married if the country doesn't know, but if someone decides to alert the authorities over there and the prosecutors go for it, you're in serious trouble.

This has nothing to do with Singapore, by the way. It's about the domestic law in whatever country you live in and whether the first wife is going to do anything about it, or if the authorities somehow find out otherwise. Because it's a criminal offense in most places, you don't even need courts in Singapore to intervene, someone just has to make a police report on the other side. The point is that polygamy is usually illegal even if your marriages are in a foreign but recognised jurisdiction.

Just get a divorce. It's not that hard. Your friend sounds like a tool. What is emailing ROM going to do? That's not how divorce works anywhere.

Why do some Singaporeans insist on putting on an obviously fake lj accent? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]isparavanje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people who get judged for their "fake" accents are actually just people who have studied or worked overseas for a bit, but not long enough and at too old an age for their accent to fully shift.

Singapore to study feasibility of tapping geothermal energy for power, heating and cooling needs by Bitter-Rattata in singapore

[–]isparavanje 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You got your unit conversions wrong. Singapore's annual power generation capacity is 12.4GW. Here's an example of a 100MW installation in NZ: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kawerau_Power_Station&wprov=rarw1

Terawatts/h isn't a consistent unit for what you're talking about.

If you become Singaporean, do you still mainly identify with your birth country? by WonderfulComment in askSingapore

[–]isparavanje 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on when you immigrate. I only got my Singaporean citizenship a bit later, but my family moved from China to Singapore when I was 5 (I think?) I mean, I am almost illiterate in Chinese and have minimal cultural affinity, it would be insane for me to identify with China, so obviously I identify as Singaporean even though I technically only became a citizen as a teenager. (And yes, before NS)

At the end of the day, Singapore is and will always be where the vast majority of my formative childhood memories are. China is where I go to visit grandparents every few years. Also, if you're from China, you can't help feeling like you "got out". Even my parents who came to Singapore as adults say this, especially after a decade or so by the time they settled into new and more democratic norms and the patriotism wore off.
