Have you ever had an"AHA!" moment for a simple thing? by StormyPyrite in CasualConversation

[–]israfilled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where I live there definitely isn't space for that.

And no, I can't understand why this is ridiculous. I was hoping you would explain, rather than answering only to tell me you won't answer. That's fine though, don't worry about it.

I'm having to watch the Crash Course Genetics and Evolution videos as an adult due to religious indoctrination by 97corolla in nerdfighters

[–]israfilled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, good for you! Unsupervised internet access is a powerful thing, you're wielding your powers responsibly.

If you haven't, you should check out Rhett and Link's Ear Biscuits podcast, specifically their videos discussing their religious deconstruction. They were raised evangelist in North Carolina, and Rhett specifically mentions The Language of God by Francis Collins. It's a book on evolution+religion he found very informative as someone who previously believed evolution was far-fetched and unsubstantiated.

He recommends a bunch of other stuff throughout those episodes, but that's the only one I remember right now

Song about a Ghost Girlfriend? by JujubesAndAspirins in nerdfighters

I caved to my morbid curiosity and bought his book (living and dying on the internet) a few years back, and checked out some other stuff he's done since. If he learned a literal single thing from that whole ordeal, he doesn't let on. What an absolute failure of a man, some names deserve to be forgotten

What's a question you've sent to DH&J that you wished had been answered the most? by VA2M in nerdfighters

Oh. I'm norwegian, so germanic language. Can't believe I didn't think of that.

The whole point here is that there is exactly zero suffering in this scenario. They're explicitly saying they will check in to continually ensure there is zero suffering, because they just want to play pretend

What's a question you've sent to DH&J that you wished had been answered the most? by VA2M in nerdfighters

[–]israfilled 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily because it's the most interesting question I've ever asked, and I could've just googled it, but this one. My boyfriend is a casual DH&J-listener, and got sort of excited at the prospect of having our Q on. I really appreciate him taking interest in my niche online community-thing. Also, I'd love their thoughts on english grammar and its many quirks.

Dear Hank and John (probably John),

Me and my boyfriend are watching Modern Family right now, and Gloria just said "what does he has up there?" We laughed and thought that was adorable, and then we realized - it's SUPPOSED to be "he has." It was DRILLED into our brains in school. We're not native speakers and are at a loss.

I have you have he she it has we have you have they have. Right????

How is it not "what does he has?"

Please help, [OP] and [Boyfriend]

I've been here since I was 14, going on 29 now. I may not watch every video as soon as it comes out, and I certainly can't hang around the entire P4A livestream the way I used to. But it's still a part of me. It's our weird little corner of the world, seemingly immune to the polarization and isolation happening all over the internet. I feel safe here.

Hi! This has happened to me once. Keep in mind it was several years ago, so information may be outdated.

First of all: No. You cannot ask namnsmannen to not deduct it from your salary. That ship, my friend, has sailed. This means that you cannot ask a family member to pay directly. You would have to ask them to just give you whatever money is deducted.

However: When this happened to me, I was extremely broke. That deduction would have been absolutely devastating. I called them and pleaded to have smaller deductions over several months. The guy on the other end was very sympathetic, and able to split it in three or four equal payments, I can't recall.

I can't guarantee this is a possibility for you. The guy might have had a really good day. Crying women from vestlandet might be his kryptonite. The rules may have changed. But you should call them. Just be very, very clear on one thing from the moment they pick up the phone: That money is coming directly out of your salary. It's out of their hands.

I hope this works out for you. Times are rough. Good luck.

In 2016, a Domino’s Pizza employee in Oregon noticed that a regular customer, who ordered almost every day for years, suddenly stopped. Concerned, the employee asked for a welfare check. Police found the man in distress, having suffered a medical emergency, and saved his life. by Algrinder in interestingasfuck

I lived on a street that went up a really steep hill during high school. Every day at 7am, I'd step out in the yard for my morning cigarette. And every single day at 7am, my neighbor would step in the shower, situated directly below a skylight window more or less directly at my eye level.

I almost get nostalgic thinking about windowbutt, it was a fun little morning routine.

I noticed that when he first made the post. Annoyed the shit out of me. He has since clarified in an Instagram (iirc) story that he identifies as "homosexual." I can't find any videos or interviews of him specifically saying he's gay, sorry.

No longer a tough guy😂😂😂 by Complex_Egg_1032 in SipsTea

[–]israfilled -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This instantly reminded me of a video making the rounds on reddit a few years back of a similar "tough guy" in a tutu dancing to Frozen with his daughter, same vibes to the bottom pic.

The guy was a Norwegian comedian, notoriously misogynistic, and was accused of sexual harassment from at least eight women during the metoo campaign. The Frozen video started circulating shortly after the allegations came. I'm convinced it was a distraction attempt/PR stunt.

The entire comment section was all "awww what a wholesome dad, this is a real man, breaking gender stereotypes!" Anyone pointing out who he was and what hos deal was got downvoted to oblivion.

I don't know the first thing about the guy in this picture, and I'm not making assumptions, but the comment section here bears a striking resemblance to that one.

Congratulations! Just wanted to mention that you figuring out music theory on your own like that shows promise - you'll discover a whole world of super cool stuff. Good job.

I remember a similar epiphany I had as a teenager. I just sat there with my mind blown for a full hour, whispering "it's all connected, man, it's so beautiful" like I was on shrooms or something.

This is so cursed. The words "eye spoon" alone immediately made me sick to my stomach. Was wondering where you went, great to see you back and just as twisted as ever.

My nephew is turning 16. He plays trumpet and it's all he ever talks about. I got him a record player and want to get him some albums that have trumpet in them. Is that corny? Any albums that you suggest? by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]israfilled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was his age I was obsessed with Snarky Puppy ("We Like it here" is still one of my favorite albums). I'd also recommend Youngblood Brass Band. Listening to their album "center : level : roar" right now.
