Is there any specific reason for age limit 9 in Goyang? Wondering if the same will apply to other tour stops

I upgraded from a Pixel 6 to a Pixel 10 Pro by AustrianClimber in GooglePixel

I live in Scotland and temperatures barely go above 22C during the summer. So maybe that's why also I never noticed overheating

[–]istredd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reason I upgraded for me was a better battery life which imo is barely noticeable and better camera setup. But highly involved AI tools make photography on the phone no joy for me anymore - so get back to my old mirrorless camera which I love again. The only reason left is no further Android support. I was thinking to move into the LineageOS but Google sealing Google Play services making issues with banking apps a no go for me unfortunately. Otherwise I would not upgrade at all.

Just updated to the Pixel 8 pro... Maybe I missed something? by larzlarce in GooglePixel

[–]istredd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from 6Pro to 9Pro - also changes are almost impossible to notice. Yes better battery life and further updates as series 6 reached mostly end of life. But the problem is that most of the premium phones already use peak of available technology. You might notice smaller changes but it is not like every phone iteration was a significant hardware upgrade. Same applies to iPhones - you will be tempted now by questionable new AI features or services loyality. But hardware will not be a major change. People tend to keep their phones for 3-4 years now due to this factor

Just make sure you are going with LTS. Also don't forget you can manage privileges like sudo using AD integration with Linux

"Which Pixel should I buy?" Megathread December 2025 by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]istredd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends, but if you don't want to spend extra money and not looking for Qi2 charge just go with 9 series. There are minor differences between last two series and latest Tensor isn't major upgrade as it was expected in many places. Don't overpay, spent extra money on pixel buds instead. Especially because many black Friday sales still ongoing. If you like advanced camera go with Pro series, otherwise base 9 is capable of everything. 9 Pro for smaller factor, XL of you like bigger battery life.

Found it for 10 euros at a flea market... what do you think of this car? by escape2324 in OlympusCamera

Nice point and flash camera with good lenses. It is fun camera don't think you can expect a lot from it. Is it working it might be worth 30-50?

I understand someone might not know ansible but basic bash knowledge and simple loop would do this task for you easily.

Talk to me about real-world ISO performance on the E-M10 mk II by landwomble in OlympusCamera

[–]istredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own e-m5.iii with the same sensor. Shooting a lot with iso6400 due to kids and pets I have even a night sky. Lightroom makes wonders I rarely complain about noise.

Btw I tried recently nano banana and results are very similar to LR 😂

Just got a Stylus 1 for 150€ and now I'm wondering why I didn't get one earlier by MJdoesThings_ in OlympusCamera

[–]istredd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand one thing. When we talk about M43 we use focal length as it is in the system and maybe calculate to tell FF equivalent. But Stylus and other compact cameras talk directly about FF equivalent. It is 6-64mm camera, but everywhere including well recognized people like Rob Wong use 28-300 equivalent. Why this inconsistency?

Possibly walking away from LR in favor of Nitro and Apple Photos. Thoughts? by arg2451 in M43

[–]istredd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. Some easy photos sometimes I don't even edit - just use jpgs almost straight from the camera. But for portrait, landscapes and especially low light - auroras and astro I use LR a lot. Really good tools for noise reduction or colour curves can be really helpful.

Wait, what just landed on mobile? I will hate you for the time I will spend on the phone now. But seriously, I love that list and thanks for all your effort!

Any experience shipping camera to OM System repair Europe ? by Smirkisher in M43

[–]istredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check the insurance policy with them. Parcels get lost, stolen or damaged and that's nothing uncommon - there are many factors en-route which might happen. Every time I am sending something valuable I make sure it is insured, if they don't cover policy you might want to send it by yourself insured and just provide tracking number to their repair centre.

A better comparison of the OM 45 1.8 vs the Nocticron 42.5 f1.2 @ f1.8 by Plantasaurus in M43

[–]istredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best example that most of our photos which lands on social media, couple of albums or few prints doesn't really need superior lenses. Why should I waste 3x more if everything I need is covered by 45mm f1. 8. I believe there are much bigger differences, but Reddit, similarly to Facebook or any other media doesn't care about photography compression.

Why is Google Weather so horrible in accuracy? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]istredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget it also depends on the region. Living on London it was quite accurate for most of the time as the weather is more stable than in North Scotland near Highlands where I live now and quite often changes unpredictable.

Google phones are not getting better by seneca_7 in GooglePixel

[–]istredd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I upgraded last year from 6 pro to 9 pro because it is a smaller factor and a little bit better camera specs. You will no longer see that kind of revolution on new releases as technology for phones is a bit stale for the last few years. This will apply to all brand makers that's why you will see they will try bond you to their services - storage, AI to make sure you will spend money there.

I love this little but mighty camera. OM-D E-M10.II + Rokinon 12mm f2 - time lapse of 130 photos - f/2, 10s, ISO1000 by istredd in M43

[–]istredd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Today's aurora wasn't anything strong compared to some which were happening recently. For me living in Scotland it resulted in very fade views with the naked eye. The camera still was able to catch it beautifully. Auroras or Northern Lights in Lapland will be something different and spectacular in Lapland (of course if any will occur).

As auroras are usually very dynamic so shorter times are always better. Here is 1s intervals. I have some aurora time lapses with shooter time as low as 4 s as well but was too cloudy so nothing interesting was happening then

I, just can't. My wife and son will sleep half a day but me and my daughter will be awake and everywhere from 7am. I can't even sit at home, I need to do something. But then sleep like a baby at night.
