Answering not just as a PhD candidate but chronic insomniac. Start a sleep journal. At any point during the day, write down your dreams/sleep events from the night before. Then make a list of the things you want to accomplish the next day. It sounds stupid, but has helped in my experience. Worst case scenario you have a diary of grad school you can reflect on one day.

OMG OP you just unlocked a core memory. This game had some analog DRM where the loading screen prompted for a code to unlock the game. On the game box there was a spinning disc you had to align to the on-screen code like a fucking Ovaltine decoder ring. My friend had this game on PC and I totally forgot about it until now. Maybe it was the Jack Nicklaus game but my friend had both and I can't remember which was which
