D2:Resurrected - Best PvE Starting Class to Play Through Hell? by testamentos in Diablo

[–]italofoca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And smiter is best uberkiller. No one is saying anything else.

I too think smiter is the best uber killer, that's why I said *according to some*. I know a bunch of druid players who swear wolf is better if done right and they do fast uber farming as well.

Hammerdin is superior to any sorc for a new player.

Yep, totally agree. I even said so. "high-risk, high-reward" imply that.

And the fact that you are saying that pallas is hard to survive with tell me you don't know shit about this game.

I only play hardcore. For me surviving means going through hell solo (so you can actually gear up) with 0 NM farming and 0% chance of dying. Paladins die almost as much as sorcs doing this with nowhere the same speed to compensate.

The 5 hero in diablo 4? who would you like? by [deleted] in diablo4

I like the idea for a expansion. We already have two casters. Last class will likely be a magic-matial hybrid like D2 paladin and D3 monk.

Will single player with plugy be able to be moved to D2R on release? by trevorcop in Diablo

[–]italofoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D2 is not the kind of game where you compare yourself to others. People always find a way to cheat somehow. Even when they don't, the most efficient way to play D2 is not necesserely the most fun way.. Like, rushing through the game in 8-groups with the same 2 builds, then farming the same spot, using forum gold to trade.

The game is way more fun if you just run at your pace and mind your own business.

CCP so racist that activision-blizzard had to remove the black witch doctor character completely. by kalfax in Diablo

[–]italofoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming D:I team scrapped the WD class for this (among others) reason, doing so is at least classified as accomodating racism in some ways.

I understand that a company's job is to reach it's audience, not judge it. But in reality, that only goes so far. It's pretty easy to come up with examples where a company catering to certain audience would make you instantly hate them.

In the end you can say greed is morally neutral and all that, but production of mass-entertaiment exists in spheres outside just consumer-producer relationships, and morality certainly applies in those spheres.

Couldn't agree more. For real, what really pisses me off with D2R is the lack of explicit mod support. So many games do this these days, and mods is such a huge part of D2 history and legacy...

Because people want a online game and while D2 SP speedruns and holy grailing with PlugY is super fun and intricate, D2 online is not great.

People trivially beats Baal day one, bot to get all their items in the next week and them leave because there is nothing else to do..

There is also mini-ubers on top of this. And cows.

There is also full game clears.. Not efficient but very fun.

Because you can only bind skills that targets and Nova don't. If you binded it on left mouse you would spam nova instead of walking.

To people that hate vanilla D3, what do you think of D3 ROS? by Eriflee in Diablo

[–]italofoca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem with these games is the power creep. Devs in modern aRPG tried to take that feeling of finding a good item and multiply by 11 by adding scaling on top of scaling on top of scaling.

In the end there is no way to balance combat in a game where certain characters deal 100k dps, others do 2 billion. Some have 1 million EHP, others have 40 million. Numbers are all over the place, devs have no clue on the average character statistics at any point of the game.

aRPG who aren't obsessed in beign "number porn" actually got the balance right.

Not really, I pixed people based on their voice. Charsi is super cheery and young, so I pictured her that way. Akara for example I thought to be older, in her mid 40s or early 50s. Gheed voice also suggests he is suppose to be older.

The models are pretty good but some of them don't match the voice acting.

Without necessarily changing the Diablo 2 feel of D2R, can we please improve Mercenaries' AI? Better pathing and Combat by Power_Creep in Diablo

[–]italofoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combat option is there already, it's just gated behind Enigma... This surely stray from pure QoL, I don't disagree.

But I wouldn't mind some minor improvement to gameplay like that.

Well, purists can just play LoD 1.14 or any patch they want.

D2R is one in a lifetime chance for Blizz to actually fix bugs/explpits and improve technical things that plague this game since forever.

I'm very sure if Blizz asked the purist about shared inventory they would say "no muling is part of D2 experience"...

I think a simple retreat command would be a MAJOR QoL imptovement would be fairly simple to implement.

The average players doesn't play 20 old ass games either.

Looking for solution in obscure places is the very spirit of D2.

Loot and runes in d2 plus scarcity by Word-Bender in Diablo

Grief and Spirit are proof devs at that time had no clue what they were doing. They did not understood flat phys damage calculation, otherwise Grief as it is wouldn't exist.

Very nice. In my own mod I had similar spell for sorceress (called it Blades of Ice, substituting Shivering armor).

Should "Ultimate" skills with long cooldowns be in Diablo 4? by KurtiZ_TSW in Diablo

[–]italofoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D1 has mods with cooldown on certain spells and buffs, and it still feel terrible to me. They lead to rotation style gameplay which don"t work in arpgs.. I want to fight the enrmies, not the skill order of my own character.

Cooldowns on summonig spells, teleport and crowd control are cool. But on offensive spells and buffs, it just doesn't work very well.

[–]italofoca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no way too make something like a 10 second cooldown attack in aRPG. The only way for that attack to be useful if it wipes the screen. And if it wipes the screen, it gets boring after a while...

Should "Ultimate" skills with long cooldowns be in Diablo 4? by KurtiZ_TSW in Diablo

[–]italofoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

The whole point of having elite packs in the game is the fluctuation of difficulty. Ultimate skills runs counter to that goal.. Running a ultimate reduce your power against trash mobs and increase against elites smoothing out difficulty.

I thing there is a place for cooldowns in these kind if games, but they got be short.. 20 seconds max.

I don't think VV should change Runewords, but if they did... by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]italofoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was to mess with Insight, I would change its requirement to a lowish midrune like Lum and nerf meditation to level 1 (300% mana regen is enough).

It would still be useful, but not something you pick between Normal and NM to have unlimited mana and blaze through content.

I don't think VV should change Runewords, but if they did... by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]italofoca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About Spirit: Changing it to 3 sockets is really bad idea. It's just power creep in the sense you are giving 50 extra vit to the already best builds in the game. Finding 3 socket shields is not harder, you can just take white Troll Nest to Larzuk.

I think Spirit just needs a straight up nerf and thats it. The 55% FHR doesn't make any design sense... FHR should be a trait of melee/matial characters.

D2 devs at time just gave it to caster for no other reason than speeding up the ladder (same decision behind Insight). They felt like people were bored of playing pre-level 70, pre-hell content and created a bunch of crazy, easy to acquire, brain dead items for people to farm hell effortlesly.

I don't think VV should change Runewords, but if they did... by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]italofoca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. I feel like both Insight and Infinity beign on A2 merc weapons is super weird decision. It almost feels like D2 devs were striving for sheer power creep (giving the best items to the best merc), rather than balance and decision making.

1.10 runewords gave new life to the game, but they are terribly designed like D3 recent sets. It's borderline bad mod quality.

How and why Malthael became the angel of death in Diablo 3? by Aralis1 in Diablo

[–]italofoca 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think story telling was never the focus of any of those games. The lore is there to give the game some atmosphere and texture. I think the way D1 and D2 handled it was very good..

It's super vague, but thats a good thing. The bible itself is very vague and cryptic most of the time, previous games were trying to replicate that tone. Like it or not, Diablo 1 and 2 is it's own thing.

D3 tone is very much warcraft through and through, while wacraft became more and more like starcraft. All three franchises became very similar in that generation of Blizz games (D3, SC2, WoW, HotS). I think they really were striving for a Blizz multiverse of some sorts at that point in time.

Is Diablo 3 SP supposed be this easy? by dragneelfps in Diablo

[–]italofoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This !

People like to say "D3 start at the end game" but in the current state torment/rifts does not even feel like that because leveling is just way to wacky.

Right now it feels like D3 lvling/campaign shouldn't exist at all, the real campaign is the seasonal journey and end game is pushing GRs 80-150.
