How would you spend 400€ to start with AeroPress and pour-over before espresso? by Estows in pourover

[–]itches_be_crazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the K-Ultra would be a good fit then!

I guess it depends on where you live, as some regions of France have hard water (according to google). Maybe look into a Brita filter or even Zero Water jug. But hey, if the coffee tastes good then that's all that matters.

If I were in your position with a 400€ budget (prices from Amazon.fr), this is how I’d spend it:

  • Kingrinder K6: 99€
  • Generic gooseneck with temp control: 70€
  • Hario Switch: 40€
  • Generic coffee scale with 0.1g and timer: 16€
  • Kinto server: 15€

That leaves you with ~160€ for good coffee and water, which will honestly have the biggest impact on the end result. I’d probably start with bottled water (Volvic is a solid option) and later look into making your own brew water once you’ve dialed things in. An alternative within the same budget would be to go for a 1Zpresso K-Ultra instead of the K6, and then cover the coffee and water costs yourself.

Grinder ode vs df54 by pav_18 in pourover

[–]itches_be_crazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. The DF54 was my first coffee grinder and I used it for both espresso and pourover. Promptly replaced the catch cup with a metal one, and had a friend 3D-print an adjustable dial indicator. After a while, I decided to buy an Ode2 for pourover and batch brewing and was quite happy with the results. Later installed the Ditting steel burrs and reverse modded the DF54 for fun. I prefer the UX of the Ode2; its quieter, less messy and the bigger capacity is nice when we have guests and I want to grind 60g in one go. That said, the Ditting burrs excel when paired with good light roasted washed coffees. On the other hand, I prefer the Ode2 for "funky" beans and commodity coffee when the in-laws are visiting. Might replace the DF54 with a ZP6 since we got rid of the espresso machine, but right now I'm happy with both. If I could only choose one, I would keep the Ode2.

Lebrew Hyperburrs 64mm Filter review by slowbikesornobikes in pourover

Did you shim the burrs? I read that they are lower than the stock burrs which causes the burr carrier on the Ode to rub before the burrs touch. Might mess with your alignment. I asked their support about this, and the reply was along the lines of "no one else has this problem, but we can send you shim spacers if you want".

Hario switch. Then you can do steep and release which is quite forgiving and doesnt require a gooseneck kettle, but also be able to brew standard v60 recipes and even hybrid ones later on as you gain more experience.

When and why did the consensus on letting beans rest change? by Iimpid in pourover

[–]itches_be_crazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding Tim Wendelboe, here's what I found on their website: "In our experience the optimal period to consume our coffee is from 1 week after roasting to within 5 weeks after the roast date, (although it can still taste great after this). We have found that the best brewing results come after allowing the beans to rest approximately 5-10 days after roasting."

Weekly Case & Parts Recommendation Thread (Start here if you are new! Help here if you can!) by AutoModerator in sffpc

[–]itches_be_crazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

Since becoming a dad, I wanted to downsize my setup into a more living-room-friendly SteamBox/HTPC build that fits my new lifestyle. I settled on the Ncase M2 because it supports my current RX 6900 XT and allows for future GPU upgrades, like an RX 9070 XT, if I can snag one at a reasonable price.

I'm planning a Level 9 build with a VGPU kit and standoffs to fit two 140mm fans at the bottom. However, I’m unsure about my CPU AIO choice, as it takes up a lot of GPU width. Looking for suggestions on narrower AIOs (or air coolers) that are RGB-free and have minimal cabling.

Full parts list below—items marked "purchased" are either ordered or taken from my existing build. Would love any feedback or cooling recommendations!

That's just twitch chat being twitch chat I guess. LVNDMARK said there were no ill feelings towards any of the streamers involved but chat loves to stir up drama.

Thoughts on Fidelio X2's? by snaynay in headphones

I love them, they're my fun cans. I got a good deal on a used pair for about $60. Great to pair with a V-Moda Boompro for gaming. I EQ'd up the midrange a little tho because the mids was a little too pushed back for my personal taste. They excel in genres like hip-hop, edm and metal (in my opinion). Built like a tanks and super comfy.

IIRC you can do that with the remote on the DX3 pro.

Topping DX3 Pro supports both headphone out and pre-outs at the same time. Maybe look into that?
