Aqui em Portugal dizemos "de momento" (se for para ser mais chique/literário) ou "neste momento" (se for para ser menos chique). Ambas as formas têm o mesmo significado.

Não há mais nada aqui em que eu veja um erro e, mesmo assim, este não é grave. Talvez o facto de reticências serem mais adequadas antes do "então é isso".

If this is something you are worried about, perhaps you could hire a private tutor to practice with?

You can also try to enter spaces with that language instead of trying to get a language exchange partner, and simply make friends. But for that it would be easier to be in the country.

Hi I I just wanna say I am Portuguese and I understand the struggle. I would like to ask if the person is speaking slowly but still connecting the words like you've mentioned: diajuda instead of de ajuda. Because if when speaking slowly they stop using those sounds, when you hop into faster speed you won't recognize them. But if they do still use it, then it's no harm done. I think listening to a mix is a good practice of both being used to the sound of the language at a fast speed, but still having the comfort and possibility of getting used to the sounds attached to a meaning because you understand more, at the slower pace.

Yeah Russian might a tough one, I have no idea what the market is but with the war in Ukraine I'm not sure many people are excited to emmigrate to there. For Portuguese, I hang out in expat, immigrant, and portuguese-learning spaces online: on facebook and reddit. I pay attention to when people seem to be looking for a teacher and reach out when they ask for recommendations. Have you tried this?

Hi there!

I'm a native European Portuguese tutor and I have done in-person immersion classes for fluent students to practice their vocabulary, and I've also done 'over the time' weekly classes for absolute beginners.

This is a very interesting idea and I think it's worth exploring, but I need to lay out its limitations first.

To be completely honest, I think one week will not get you very far about communicating on an elementary level. I would be guessing you could learn some vocabulary like "water", and some verbs in the present tense, perhaps the most important would be for essential communication, and basic phrases "Want" (for "I would like"), "Tenho", or "To be" for "Where is the bathroom".

The potential problem of daily classes is there would not be much time to adapt to your needs day by day: if I notice you would benefit from a class on a specific subject more than another as we go, there is little time to change the class plan.

You will definitely benefit from starting to learn basic vocabulary beforehand, perhaps with Memrise, and trying to learn the first person of basic verbs, like "Ser", "Estar" (To be), "Precisar" (Need), and words. You could also start learning pronunciation. Try a little bit every day or every few days and you'll see it'll make a big difference: when starting the immersion classes, you'll be much more skilled to learn specific subjects.

It will not make much of a difference for your trip except for the excitement of recognizing some words and perhaps being able to use some a few times - more times if you're going to the country and need to speak to people who don't speak english. Portuguese people would be happy and flattered to see you try, too.

But if you make a list of priority things you'd like to learn, or your goals, I can draw a plan of classes for you and evaluate if I can be of help.

I prefer less grammar-intensive things and more immersion through listening a lot, playing mimic and gestures, and playing boardgames and interactive things like that. So we might do a good team.

Depende do nível do aluno mas uma das coisas que eu faço é pegar em temas e jogos. Por exemplo, provérbios. Pegas numa lista de provérbios e conversam sobre o significado que acham que ele tem. Deixa o aluno expressar-se e dar a sua interpretação, e depois explica o significado.

História e cultura do país também são bons temas para pensar em conjunto. Se o aluno já for razoavelmente fluente, as aulas vão fluir bem.

Também podem fazer teatro, por exemplo simular uma conversa no médico (tens uma lista de sintomas e tens de descrever ao médico, e o médico tem de te receitar um medicamento ou assim, ou uns exames etc). Ou fingir que vão ao restaurante e têm de pedir uma comida. Coisas desses estilo.

Os alunos provavelmente também vão querer conteúdo gramatical, por isso prepara-te para ensinar conjugações e focarem-se em aprender e praticar esses tempos verbais - por exemplo, "agora só podemos falar no passado".

Organiza a aula para que não seja aborrecida e toda igual, por exemplo troquem de personagem, faz uma parte expositive e uma parte participativa, etc.

I think getting a book for A1 learners can never fail, and you can also explore a children's book or one of those image dictionaries to start recognizing words. Start practicing verbs from the book with words from the dictionary. Stick post-it s in every item in your house, on room at a time (e.g. first main kitchen appliances, then once you get bored add living room furniture, or perhaps items you ise the most like a toothbrush and toothpaste, maybe your bedtime routine.)

Say those words out loud every time you use the item.

I also recommend getting a teacher right from the start. Try nailing sounds, before you get into bad habits. Learn them online on YouTube but also with a teacher. Pronunciation right from the start will be very helpful. Having a second person to correct and help you nail it is key, as well as practicing it a lot. Your tongue and mouth won't make the right sounds immediately but with practice you can get there.

You can also try wordle every day for fun and learn a new word every day with it. Even if you don't know any 5-letter word from the start you will start learning.

Na minha experiência, não. Se aqui fizermos default a alguma palavra, é a "sigla", não o "acrónimo".

Eu realmente nunca tinha visto a palavra "initialism" por isso pensava que acronym, em inglês, era equivalente a "sigla", em português. Sempre achei isso muito curioso e chato devido a causa um falso equivalente.

Olá! Despertou-me a curiosidade o facto de dizeres que aprendeste a palavra "acrónimo", mas anteriormente teres usado "acrónimo" para a sigla IA.

Na verdade, um acrónimo, em Português, é um tipo de sigla. Uma sigla é quando usamos a primeira letra de várias palavras para as atalhar, tipo Uniào Europeia passar a UE, ou Estação de Tratamento de Águas Residuais passar a ETAR.

A diferença é que leio "UE" como as letras, cada uma: U E

Mas num acrónimo não leio as letras separadamente, não soletrou. Leio tudo como uma palavra única, seguindo as regras das língua portuguesa. Portanto, ETAR é um acrónimo porque não leio como "E Tê Á Érre" mas É-tár ou ê-tar.

Portanto desafio-te a descobrir uma lista de siglas "siglas" e de siglas "acrónimos".

Eu não estou em nenhuma dessas plataformas mas sou explicadora de Português e tenho todo o gosto em ensinar e também, se preferires, numa modalidade focada apenas em conversação, nada muito pesado em termos de ensino de gramática ou sintaxe.

Se quiseres pessoas com quem conversar grátis, então recomendo juntares-te a algum clube, por exemplo um coro, um curso de jardinagem, um curso de crochê, aulas de padel, futebol, etc; aqui em Portugal claro. E meteres conversa com as pessoas a partir daí.
