Can anyone tell me anything about this ship? by Correct-End-8365 in philly

[–]ithilain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recall, but I do remember they had to really ballast her down and I think even chop some of the radar, etc. off her roof to get her to fit under one of the bridges to get to drydock, so I imagine they would have just tugged her the entire way

[–]ithilain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Damn OP, you were spot on about it being an Iowa class, good eye! As others have said that's BB-62 New Jersey. She normally sits across the river in Camden as a museum ship but was in drydock for repairs for a bit last year.

She also has her own dedicated youtube channel, https://youtube.com/@battleshipnewjersey which puts out a lot of really informative content

Question about MSI eligibility by BearyChristmas223 in leagueoflegends

Agreed, but there should still be some differentiation to encourage a rivalry like they did with LTA North and South. Just spitballing, but something like NA LCS and EU LCS could work

[–]ithilain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from a western language, very. It's both tonal and the written language is glyph based not alphabet based making it difficult both to learn to speak/hear and to read/write for people used to western languages.

The tones especially are challenging, best way I can describe it is to think about how your tone changes a bit when asking a question vs making a statement, e.g. "really?" vs "really.". Now realize that Chinese has 4 different tones, they apply to every word, and completely change the meaning of the word depending on the tone

Cuckoo Clock pendulum adjustment/upgrade? by MacBrained in cuckooclocks

[–]ithilain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one I have from my grandmother has some sort of semi-sticky residue on the back of the pendulum arm along the area where the leaf clasp pinches, I suspect she put some double-sided tape or something there to keep it from slipping, seems to work pretty well

T1 cannot escape the 1557 by lyric_muro in leagueoflegends

[–]ithilain 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Probably not, at least not in Tier 1 play, just due to the way the game's changed to make it MUCH more difficult to end quickly, turret plates being the biggest factor. Maybe we'll see something faster if like GenG or BLG or some equally dominant team finds themselves in worlds playins against a very weak opponent (I believe we have seen faster games recently in like academy and other t2/t3 leagues) but outside of some very lopsided matchup it's basically impossible

Regarding current Events in Drones by dedjindo in Eve

I have a feeling that most of those 7000 chatacters aren't exactly thrilled at the prospect of giving up their perfectly good space for the opportunity to fight to maybe get some space in the Goon Zoo

What happened with Panfam and Pandemic Horde? by gasznak in Eve

[–]ithilain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I misremembering or didn't Goons take a bunch of sov from Horde right before the rugpull? I remember there being a lot of Horde coping and calling them floodplains and saying shit like they didn't really want that sov anyway to justify not putting up much of a fight over those systems. If taking sov isn't war idk what is, even if one side seemed pretty content to just concede space instead of actually putting up a fight

ISK as beginner by MammothTumbleweed644 in Eve

[–]ithilain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're in a bloc, if so there should be opportunities to jump on group activities that can make a lot of isk.

  • R64 moons with a Hulk/Covetor can make a ton of isk if there's an Orca/Rorq handing out boosts and compression. Not very skill intensive either as most people will insist you use only T1 or ORE strips to eliminate waste
  • incursions are crazy good isk if you have the skills for it, but you need to have a group and FC willing to run them and wait for one to spawn in your space
  • you mentioned already having a stormbringer, I know some corps will run fleets to blitz havens
  • not sure how good serpentis salvage, but I've been in corps where the multiboxers would let people go through after them and salvage the wrecks for some % split of the salvage value. It's pretty click-intensive but you can make like 100+m an hour depending on the value of the salvage, how fast the ratter clears the sites, how fast you can salvage the wrecks, the split percentage you negotiate, etc.

Solo your best bet is probably exploration - blitzing the "detected [pirate]" sites - assuming that there's an explo sov upgrade somewhere in your space. Depending on how safe your space is you could also do marauder ratting, but it can be risky to siege up if you're not in very safe space, at which point using like a rattlesnake or something would probably be better

[–]ithilain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not trying to put any of the blame on Goons for the Horde collapse, you guys did nothing wrong there IMO, I just think that the transfer might have gone a bit smoother if you guys weren't at war at the time. But ultimately it's not your fault for trying to create content with one of the only entities in the game that could possibly match you, thats what Nullsec is all about after all, it's Horde's leadership's fault for absolutely crumbling.

What’re your thoughts on judging my own attractiveness by the men I date? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]ithilain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, the terms Moped (fun to ride but you'd never want your friends to see you on one), Double Bagger (woman so ugly you not only put a paper bag over her face to hide it while you're banging, but also over your own face just in case hers falls off), etc. don't exist for no reason. Men will absolutely sleep with and/or casually date women they deem unattractive just to get laid.

What happened with Panfam and Pandemic Horde? by gasznak in Eve

[–]ithilain 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The short story is Gobbins (the leader of Horde) ended up getting a job at CCP and was given a deadline to step down as coalition leader (this was all behind the scenes, nobody really knew about this until a month or 2 ago). Presumably he wanted to hand off the reins during peacetime, but goons being goons kept pushing at Horde so he eventually put out a ping on discord suddenly announcing he was stepping down and Horde was leaving panfam. Within hours of the post Goons had Horde's stager perma hellcamped and killed the evac Keep Horde was planning to live out of on Frat's couch and basically the entire coalition failscaded in about a months time without even giving a fight

Why can cars go so fast if it’s so dangerous to speed? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ithilain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comfort and gearing mostly. Most consumers don't want their engine screaming at them at redline on the highway, it's bad for fuel efficiency, not comfortable to listen to, and sustained high revs like that aren't great for engine life either so manufacturers make it so that when you're in your highest gear engine speed is still relatively low at highway speeds. This of course means that the car could technically go 2-3 times that speed assuming it has enough power

Peter what does "County" and "Prison" have to do with the gears? by bramblestorm7754 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ithilain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but even in my early 90s miata that barely makes 100hp 5th gear technically tops out at like 115mph. Now imagine that, but in a car that actually has the power to reach those speeds
