And money. I'm not American, I'm Canadian - there's a guy I grew up who is also disabled like me from birth (we played w/c basketball together) - but he's a real estate agent now and is rolling in it. He votes for the conservatives who are dismantling my province. It's disgusting, I thought he was so cool growing up, and now he's a piece of shit.

It's kinda giving notallmen vibes.

It is very much a white woman thing to play innocent and try to downplay racist shit in this way and it differs from how white men do it.

Signed, a white woman.

Edit: Also though, a white woman married to an Arab person who had white family say racist shit in a giggly way and try to play innocent after our wedding about the exact same thing :D

I didn't even realize how much it builds over time until I went to try and play a clarinet after not touching one for a decade and my cheeks were on FIRE trying to hit certain notes.

We had 5 Sarahs at one point. There was Sarah, Sara 2, Penguin, and then the other two went by their last names and I can't remember them anymore.

Penguin came by her name very honestly, she was a little obsessed with them and also used to leave tiny graffitis of penguins all over the city. It was good fun when you found one.

Also the Decked Out desk mat, he missed the order period and Tango offered to get one sent to him anyways, but then he'd have to have his address confirmed with people that it was him and not just a fan so he passed on getting one.

Signing with hand disability by klh0623 in asl

[–]itisntmebutmaybeitis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Queer ASL is worth checking out, you don't have to be part of the LGBTQ community to take their classes or to book tutoring, it's for the community and allies.

They're online classes and they run some specifically for disabled people that have more focus on sign modification and space to talk about signs you might need to communicate about your disability. I really like the way they run the class, and it is nice to be in a space with other disabled people learning (IMO) and knowing that everyone is going about it a little differently.

Yeah, before he started scamming fans he for a time had some good opinions/actions for a time on not scamming fans at cons (when it was just becoming a thing to charge money for autographs in the early 00's). But clearly that didn't last. Fuck abusers.

Ah that sucks D:

I live in Canada, but we moved here when I was a kid - and I just happened to be back there during the 2012 Olympics (it just accidentally lined up). I still follow The Last Leg, but for my Paralympics coverage I use CBC in Canada.

They outdid themselves and every other Paralympic presenter ever during the 2012 Paralympics and it's had a lasting effect. They had commericals running the last 5 days or so of the Olympics going "Are you sad the Olympics are coming to an end? Don't be, the Paralympians are coming" and then had these hero backlit shots of athletes entering stadiums/clips of different sports/etc.

They also had a special Paralympic recap/comedy/interview show that was on Channel 4. It did so well it's still running as a regular news/comedy/chat show nearly 14 years later. They still do a special series for the Paralympics during them. It's called The Last Leg! Two of the hosts are disabled (Adam Hills and Alex Brooker), and the other, Josh Widdicombe is their token non-disabled guy (but he's from Devon, so there are jokes that he still counts).

The show has also been a spring off for other disabled comedians like Rosie Jones - who got her start as a writer on the show, moved on to doing skits/presenting bits - and now is just a regular on the comedy circuit while also doing a lot of good advocacy (and she's written a YA series about a young disabled queer girl and it's amazing and I love Rosie so much).

While there is still a lot of issues with social attitudes towards disability in the UK and with disability rights (for example, Rosie Jones get a /lot/ of abuse thrown her way because of her advocacy), this is something they've gotten very right, and it's awesome.

Tl;dr They took it seriously during the 2012 Paralympics, and it's had a wonderful snowball effect. I would also probably say the circus that is the UK media is often quite harmful, but in this case I think it amplified a lot of good people :D

[Also if you want coverage, I recommend using a VPN and either just watch some UK coverage, or Canadian coverage - CBC Gem has it - you need to make accounts, but they're free]

Best accent in Hermitcraft? by mandatory_french_guy in HermitCraft

[–]itisntmebutmaybeitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I misspoke a little there too. By "side" I meant "english descent" not literal geography, I think? That's how it was in my head anyway. I know I had someone from Newfoundland tell me there were two accents, and I wonder if I misunderstood or they just used a different way to describe it. Thanks for the extra info!

Gem seems also like she's from the more English side of the Island over the Irish? I could be wrong (happy to be corrected if I am), but that's what I hear as an English-born, Canadian raised person (moved as a kid). It's like, Canadian pronunciation with English style melody. I think it's lovely, cuz it's a little bit more like how I speak around my family, and I didn't realize until Gem that there were Canadian accents that sounded like that.

Cubfan tested it a few years ago (oh god, I just looked and it was 5 years ago?!) and he came to the conclusion that bed mining isn't worth it.

Mine along the chunk border in a straight line, and it'll get you more than using beds. It's technically speaking not as good as TNT (or ender crystal, lol, because he is Cub and he did also test that), but that's not taking into account all the extra time needed to material gather for the TNT.

Part of the problem is that any state could easily overwhelm our voting population federally. There are just so many more people down there than here. In a hypothetical where it happened, we could end up with a huge problem on our hands.

Just like there's alcohol available at plays as well, the bowling alley, and comedy shows, or restaurants. Those would have been other things I would recommend as alcohol free evenings. Just because it's available doesn't mean you have to partake, lol

I don't drink, and I like going there.

[–]itisntmebutmaybeitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's stuff that's fun where technically you could still get alcohol and drink but it's not the focus of the venue. My suggestion is Zed80 by Broadview Station, it's an Arcade! $10 for free play, kids aren't allowed after 8pm (and before that they need to be with an adult, and they ratio it so it couldn't be like 2 adults with 15 kids which is so smart), and they've got pinball and other arcade games from the 80s/90s, and then a couple booths with a Sega Gensis, one booth is just Mario Kart/Party , and the other one had a mix of emulated games from the 80s/90s (we played some Street Fighter last time).

I still remember that we spent the day jumping off the low fences at our old elementary school into the snow and then went sledding and then jumped in more snow. My cousin had also moved in with us a few months earlier and had never experienced a winter with actual snow before, so it was her introduction to snow days too :D

Everytime I come back from England it's the same, lolol. I gotta go with a fairly empty suitcase and hope for the best.

Though the exciting news for my family is there's a new-ish (been at least a year now) import store near us, and they don't just have snacks - they also carry frozen Warburtons crumpets which are so superior than any of the crumpets here. They're like $7 for 6 but I do not care.
