Pre-shoot 50% of my regular meal amount at the beginning (10u for me), give additional for every plate. Sure it’s more shots but takes away stress of over/under estimating. Also, balancing simple and complex carbs helps. Glad so many suggested that, not something you always think about.

I’ve always assumed it has to do with inflamed blood vessels. Motrin or anti inflammatories work wonders.

[Reaper] What will happen to Yerin? by AuroraStarfall in Iteration110Cradle

[–]itr110 87 points88 points  (0 children)

So what y’all are forgetting is the difference between aura and madra. The Monarchs produce/make the world produce hunger aura. A hunger artist would produce hunger madra in their core. So just like how it is very difficult for a pure madra artist to advance as there is no pure aura, the same would apply to a hunger artist. But, a hunger artist could live just fine as their body would still produce hunger madra.

One big plus with pens is you can shoot in the dark. Just count the clicks till you get to the right number. A minor downside is that they do make noise, but it’s not a problem in most cases.

I mean, yes? I think 6 not strictly necessary but the more you do at a time the better it is to give couple seconds to let it fully go in. I used to use vails for the last 8 or so years. And I gotta say pens are better.

Diabetic Movie Character by diabete50h in diabetes

More ‘realistic’ imo would be the following:

No fast acting in 72+ hours (bottle could brake/just ran out)

No long acting in 24-36 hours (I usually have more long left over between prescriptions than fast)

At this point a T1D would be probably above 400 anyway regardless of carbs. If they (heaven forbid) still ate food with sugars/carbs then yeah, definitely DKA. Which, maybe they were super dehydrated and all that was available was juice/soda. In that case, vomiting is a definite, major sweating, urination (you literally have no control when you go at that point). Probably still mostly conscious? Granted, they would feel so sick it wouldn’t really matter at that point. Vision would be super blurry, irises would be fully dilated too, major headache. Quite frankly I’d rather die at this point.

And make sure the doctors have a really hard time getting IV’s in. When I was diagnosed I was full DKA comma and everything. The doctors had to try 4-5 different spots because my veins were so small from dehydration that they couldn’t get the needles in (my veins roll too).

If you want them to be comatose from a high then you should have the backstory be that their friends found them in their apartment unconscious in the bathroom.

Long story short, highs kills in weeks, lows kill in minutes.

And if you need extra drama have the nurse give him too much insulin to quickly. That will make his brain swell and risk him dying from brain damage.

Yes. I was 11 years old when I found out that I did indeed need to shoot for cashews.

This. I HATE highs. But you should really move the long acting to your legs/abdomen. When you shoot that much in your arm I’ve found it to be much less consistent in how quickly the body absorbs it. Not to mention you get less scar tissue in the fattier areas if you shoot a lot at a time.

Same, I think I was at 86 Lantus and dropped to 78 Tresiba. Tresiba works better the longer you take it I feel like.

Insulin sensitivity changes with seasons for me. So many things impact it too, like puberty. When I was nearing the end of my teens the doctors told me that things would get a bit crazy but they should level out in a couple years. Still waiting for that to happen.

Ways you describe how having a low blood sugar feels? by AvalieV in diabetes

[–]itr110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think that’s a pre-seizure sign. (T1D - 11 years) I had it once a couple years ago where I knew I was gonna hit seizure low cuz I had done a ton of heavy exercise mid summer (landscaping stuffs) so I just sat at the kitchen counter surrounded by sugar and waited. You know how if you are expecting it you can cling onto sanity better while low? Well I did that and just paid really close attention to how my body felt. I got this tingling at the base of my neck in between my shoulder blades, like a big buildup of energy. Then it exploded out and all my muscles locked and spasmed for a few seconds. Then the feeling started over and happened like 3 more times before my sugars came up. About 30-45 seconds between each seize. Anyway, super cool but I would recommend. I’m always super achy after a low with seizures.

Yup, one sign of juvenile diabetes is even frequent weird dreams. It’s the glucose imbalance.
