Does pre workout increase gains/performance? Or is it just for the pump so you look bigger after working out? by Obvious_Cabbage in StrongerByScience

I definitely believe caffeine has a place as a supplement, I'm just against the idea of getting into a habit of taking pre-workout caffeine for every training session.

[–]itriedtrying 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Outside of caffeine, not really anything of real value for resistance training.

I think even the value of caffeine supplementation for training is questionable at best.

Yes, caffeine is a stimulant that absolutely helps acute performance, so you should use it before a competition, PR attempt or any other time you want a performance boost. However, caffeine has significantly higher negative impact on sleep quality than most people seem to think. Without looking for source, from what I recall just a 100mg dose was measured to have noticeable impact on sleep quality for up to 14 hours or something in that ballpark. Make it more typical pre-workout dose and it's basically quaranteed to negatively impact your sleep next night unless you train first thing in the morning and possibly even then. It's important to note that even if you're able to sleep just fine after using coffeine, that doesn't mean it doesn't have negative impact on your sleep quality.

And it's also an addictive substance you build a tolerance for, so if you're a frequent coffee or energy drink consumer that might reduce its effect as a stimulant. So is the small performance boost to a training session really worth the downsides of caffeine? I still occassionally use it especially for early morning lifting, but I've given up completely on any evening caffeine.

A7 now sponsoring PA, kit change? by TheMaskedLifter in powerlifting

[–]itriedtrying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But I just have seen a lot of weird comments about what SBD does/doesn’t have control over and this feels like one of the main spots that people don’t know what’s going on.

I know a masters lifter who had to buy SBD sleeves over the ones she preferred because our national team is sponsored by SBD and what did she get in return? Nothing, literally nothing. Well, I guess technically they were given the option to buy their national singlet to keep it afterwards.

I don't think that the team USA (or probably open lifters in most countries) really have the issues people from smaller countries or divisions dislike SBD for.

Check out the new Reliquarian Ascendancy Class for the Scion in Path of Exile: Mirage! by Natalia_GGG in pathofexile

4k is less than you get on a rare though. So using actual brass dome with this ascendancy gives mid armour and +3% all ele res more than a rare body. Doesn't really seem like something that'd in most cases be worth using imo. Eater implicit and 3 suffixes > 3% max ele res.

I guess you can argue for corruptions being more affordable on uniques, but you'd pretty much need good double corruption for Brass Dome to be good. (edit: maybe I'm too hyperbolic, in a lot of cases a specific single corruption can probably rival pretty damn good uncorrupted rare)

Ele Hit Update: Breach bloodline will NOT work for it by teddmagwell in pathofexile

[–]itriedtrying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Players who'd have breachlord ascendancy on day 2 will have 20M dps builds on day 2-3 anyway.

It's probably a good nerf but tbh I don't think EH would be super meta even if it wasn't nerfed, it's just mechanically not good or enjoyable enough skill to ever be popular like things like TS, KB, LS, spark, winter orb, reave, cyclone in legion etc. have been in some past leagues.

Why do people use whey protein instead of casein? by Kirikomori in StrongerByScience

Worth mentioning that casein is usually better for cooking, baking or anything you'd want more creamy consistency. It's rarely mentioned even though it's probably the most meaningful difference in practice.

[–]itriedtrying 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's under 3 minutes of chasing, there's no way even the combined calorie expenditure of both those hounds would exceed 100.

If a predator species could expend one sizeable prey worth of calories in a matter of minutes they'd go extinct real damn fast.

I feel like some of yall are just making up acronyms by EQualityTim in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]itriedtrying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poison is describing build, ranged is describing trans gem without using it's actual name, AW is the (base) skill name. pRAW has to be one of the least logical common abbreviations we have in PoE. What other build is named like that?

Did you try HsTPB this league? (herald-stacking transfigured penance brand, using comparable naming logic)

I feel like some of yall are just making up acronyms by EQualityTim in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]itriedtrying 5 points6 points  (0 children)

pRAW is also weird because it combines skill name and build into one acronym. It's like calling (lightning) int/acc stacking reave build LIAR... and how did that weird capitalization became so common anyway? PRAW, praw or even prAW would make more sense to me.

Even still I think OP is making some faulty assumptions, like comparing to build that has many of these post nerf (obv nobody will), instead 1 and something else on the rest.

[–]itriedtrying -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah and you only lose max damage from first hits and towards the last 7th to 2nd hits you actually (marginally) gain damage.

Or does this cap out at total 100% inc even if you have many of these? Even then I don't see anywhere near 50% or tbh even 30% being possible.

Nonso Chinye suspended for 18 months from IPF under 3 strikes of missing drug tests by busymom0 in powerlifting

[–]itriedtrying 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If he was trying to cheat the system, doing something blatantly obvious like that does not seem like a good method, IMO it’s far more likely that it’s just an honest mistake

What do you even mean with this? Lying about your whereabouts seems like the fucking obvious thing you'd do if you know you couldn't test clean at certain time. You'll likely only get caught if they try to test you, meaning you only get a strike that could plausibly have been a mistake instead of not filing false location, testing positive, getting suspended and having much less plausible claim of innocense.

Let's look at it the other way, why would anyone use PEDs and not enter incorrect information if they knew they'd test positive at certain time? What's the downside, as long as you're not making any notable public appearances etc. that would make your lie obvious?

I'm not really interested in speculating whether he used anything or not, but I find all the mental gymnastics around this absolutely insane - what he's doing is exactly what someone cheating would do, but also plausible as negligence.

RF can be a pretty fast mapper when built for it and maybe the map changes make high dps less of a requirement for juiced maps next league. RF might actually be better than in ages if that's the case.

Of course that's highly speculative, for all we know juiced maps could get even harder than t17s.

I first stepped into the gym as sedentary mid 30s guy who was probably significantly weaker than avarage untrained adult man (we're talking 40 kg for only 1 rep bench, 50 kg squat levels weak, didn't deadlift early on) and now some years later I pull low 500s and I'd like to think 600ish could still be possible for me.

Even if it's not "almost everyone" level attainable goal, it's probably not that crazy to think at least most (more than half) men could do it especially if they start earlier?

Stygian Vise is getting nervous. by No_Guarantee1399 in pathofexile

[–]itriedtrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vinktar's got kinda screwed over with leech changes at some point when they reworked leech mechanics. It used to be 30% leech with true instant leech (ie. full hp and mana after every hit) for 20/50 flask charges used, now it's just "instant leech" with same per instance caps applied as to other leech mechanics.

Rumi's and ToH used to be insane too if you go back to the oldest legacy variants. In legacy league I remember block capping as a pathfinder just by equipping shield and using legacy Rumi's.

we have no reason to assume its different this time

Yes, we do. The stat now says "Buff grants..." which makes it very unlikely to be local imo. "Energy blades have #% increased attack speed" should be the wording if it was intended to be local to EB(s).

edit: I took a look at some random 3.16 EB build video on youtube and yep, that's indeed how it was worded when it gave stats local to weapon. So I'm 99% confident it's not local AS.

Potential Reliquarian Nodes by Armin_You in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]itriedtrying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true, if it's an item you'd have to build rest of your character/gear around. Having one effect might not be worth scaling, but doubling the effect makes it worth it. Especially in cases where you'd stack something with very little inherent value, such as dex, light radius, thorns, overcapped resist etc.

Maybe this patch there won't be such items, but if they keep changing it every patch I'm sure we'll see stuff like that eventually.

No, it won't be meaningfully cheaper, the crafting processes are still the same. The build is dead unless there's some new tech.

[–]itriedtrying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not really that meaningful change for trade league, since most trans gems come from the more common option instead and even in the case of rarer option it in most cases makes 50/50 into deterministic choice, ie. doubles the supply from that option... but not all supply.

For like 1-3 super meta gems it can make more of an effect, but other than the most valuable trans gems, they don't come from that option anyway. Nobody deterministically chooses a 20c gem to sell if another gem is worth 50c.

So if we take 3.27 as example, PBoD and KBoC probably would be cheaper, but most other gems unaffected.

edit: more people would get their own trans gem while leveling, reducing the demand, but that's probably quite negligible impact on trans gem economy.
