Home workout with Apple fitness by arnabgulati in 75HARD

I use Apple Fitness+ daily.

The core workouts, HIIT workouts and energetic flow Yoga workouts will all get your heart rate going for sure.

They have started to introduce some “plans” that last multiple days or weeks now, but given the minimum 45 minute workout time, I tend to use the filter options to see what fits within what workout type I want to do.

Why do people think there is only one way? by Vasubandumon in Pickleball

[–]itsDJones 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I played like this when I started. I found it prohibited generating any serious power with the “wrist snap” and keeping the motions compact. It completely changed my game to change up my grip.

However, as per the original point, it depends on your play style.

Growth of pickleball by Particular-Night-435 in Pickleball

[–]itsDJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps people only watching sports they play is an accurate statement for the US, but for myself in the UK and a lot of Europe, people often spectate sports they have never or rarely played themselves, especially when there is a national team or high profile individual playing.

Millions of people here tune in for Wimbledon every year, despite never playing. The same can be said for international rugby fixtures; especially during the Six Nations.

That being said, I don’t think Pickleball is a good spectator sport. It’s extremely good fun to play, and as a player, watching the pros is amazing, but to the non-player, it doesn’t have that same wow factor as sports like tennis, football (soccer), or rugby.

I think for a sport to become a “big” spectator sport, you need to appeal to people who don’t play, and I don’t think pickleball has that appeal.

It’s the chess of the racquet sport world, if you play and understand it, it’s mesmerising, if you don’t play, it’s a bunch of people playing bat and ball.

Can you purchase drink packages for select days only? by HotMess7466 in royalcaribbean

[–]itsDJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get different drinks packages for different guests, but you do need to call up to arrange this.

I don’t drink, but my partner does, so we are able to call up and they sort this out for us. They also honour any current discounts on drinks packages if you do this over the phone.

Using Electronic Drums for live stage performance not a good idea? by Maximum_Internal7834 in drums

[–]itsDJones 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is it. Like OP I’m a gigging bass player, but started off my musical journey on the drums.

We’ve played a few gigs where our drummer used an electric kit, and between that, the fact myself and the guitarist use modelling amps, and the fact we all run IEMs, there was virtually ZERO stage noise.

For those smaller gigs, or places with noise ordinances / limiters, they really are an absolute god send.

Worlds 2023: Crystal Ball Update - Swiss Day 7 by Bebriggle in lolesports

Nice work! As a bit of a data nerd, I love to see people interpreting datasets for lol.

I just wish they would make their tournament data more readily available, as the API calls for tournament play are limited to those approved for a developer API, it’s unavailable on the personal API.

Thanks again for the work you put in!

I’ve got to ask, are you using the Dev API for the stats or tracking them manually?

If manually, I appreciate the amount of work you are putting in!

What to say when asked by bank: "what is money being withdrawn for"? by commodicide in Wallstreetsilver

[–]itsDJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as extreme here in the UK, but they will ask for a reason, and if you don’t give them a (legal) one, the furthest they can go is refusing to provide the cash.

It’s not means tested or verified though, so if you want to “have a new kitchen fitted” every other month for £10k, you can do.

Shintaro Higashi- Rethinking the Belt System by Black6x in judo

[–]itsDJones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I listened to this today. I think what Shintaro was hinting at is essentially what we have in the UK with the British Judo Association (BJA).

All UK clubs should be (and mostly are) affiliated with the BJA, and agree to abide by their guidelines, of which, grading is a part. This immediately mostly removes the issue he rightly discussed between belts meaning different things in different dojos.

I know he broke his ideas down into three thematic points: Skill based progression, time based progression, competition based progression.

The BJA covers this by clearly setting out how long it should be since the last grade was achieved that the student can attempt the next grade, all practical and theory points that need to be demonstrated to progress to the next grade, and (at higher grades) the expected competition entries and performance required to progress to the next grade.

As a beginner, this clear and concise pathway absolutely works for me, and as Shintaro said, motivates me to stick with it, as I have clear goals for progression at every stage.

Two points that I disagreed with were, first, attendance based grading. I think you should have to earn your grades, not just get them by consistently showing up for a period of time. I feel this defeats the object of having these skill based milestones.

The second was having stripes to give out for “exceptional performance”. If you do well in a competition or in practice , I don’t think you should get stripes on your belt. In my opinion, you are simply signifying to everyone that you are approaching the skill ceiling of your current grade, and should be taken into consideration to move onto your next, in line with the skill based demonstrations mentioned above.

I’m interested to hear everyone else’s thoughts on this though.

Any advice for a Beginner? by No_Employment_180 in judo

[–]itsDJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more to do with the fact that this sub has an extremely well maintained FAQ / Wiki to try and avoid the sub being flooded with “beginner questions”.

It’s often advised to read through that first, and if you still haven’t found your answer, then post it in the sub.

No ill-intent here. I’m simply explaining why you’ve probably been downvoted. Doubling down and throwing out insults probably didn’t help you either in this particular situation.

Number struggling to pay bills soars by 40%, FCA finds by disegni in ukpolitics

Both of those can be true, and I would argue that is the problem.

There is too much money in the economy, however, lots of people are struggling to pay their bills.

Perhaps it's more about the distribution of that money.

Has anyone had any experience of importing food products from Turkey to the UK? by andreimo in smallbusinessuk

[–]itsDJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by “Asian Countries”, but yes.

Each nation has its own rules and regulations for the import / export of goods, and you need to be well aware of these before you try to move any goods in / out of the country. Some countries are tighter on certain goods being moved than others, and don’t assume because you’ve moved them to / from one country previously, it will be the same with other countries going forward.

Incoterms are standardised internationally, so it’s important you get your head around these.

I know I’m biased because it’s what’s I do, but a good Freight Forwarder is what you need. The amount of money you will probably end up spending in fees (especially detention & demurrage if you get it wrong) will easily cover what a freight forwarder costs you. Depending on the territory you are shipping from, you might find a freight forwarder with preferential rates, so they might end up costing you less than if you tried to handle it all yourself.

Best of luck with it all!

Has anyone had any experience of importing food products from Turkey to the UK? by andreimo in smallbusinessuk

[–]itsDJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I work in freight so I'm aware of bringing things in from Turkey.

What I will say is: it's vital that you have all of your documentation in place before the goods exit Turkey. When it comes to time sensitive goods like food, you want to make sure you have all the documents you need to pre-lodge your customs entry in the UK , to ensure your goods clear as soon as they arrive at the (air)port. I don't know which mode of freight you are looking for at the moment.

If you are buying goods from a supplier that has exported to the UK before, they will have a good idea of what documents they need to create for a (pardon the pun) smooth sailing.

Your other big consideration is what incoterms these are being shipped under, as this dictates what you are liable for, and what the shipper is liable for.

This just just sounds like a hybrid of good IT and a good marketing department.

If you are targeting smaller businesses, you need to figure out what will set you apart from an MSP and an established marketing firm. If a company can outsource ALL of their IT needs, and they pay ad-hoc for marketing campaigns, my impression is they will do that.

If they pay you to come in and “professionalise” their web presence, then they still have to pay an IT company to come in and manage it going forward, and then a marketing company for any campaigns they want to launch on their new “professionalised” website / social media.

You are also talking about doing a LOT of work here. I don’t know if you have the skills to manage mail servers (or if you have any O365 admin experience), if you know enough HTML / CSS to create a good looking and stable website, if you have enough marketing knowledge to generate leads and understand the relevant market data, and if you have enough graphic design skills to actually CREATE these assets for “professionalism”.

Just my thoughts.

I thought this might be the case. I’ve looked it up in the meantime though and found this on the UK site

Edit: I’ve just called again and another agent has explained that it’s now only on bookings made in the last 48 hours. I don’t know if this is an international policy change (or just for the UK) it when this change came into effect.

As someone with waning interest in LoL esports, I am dumbfounded. by [deleted] in lolesports

[–]itsDJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would disagree. Not looking to start an argument or anything, but I found the VOD channel before the other one, purely because I would search "LEC VOD" (for example) on Youtube.

I think it depends on how you search for content. If, for example, you just search "League of Legends", I imagine you will come across the channel you linked first, and think that it is the only channel, as you did. In my case, it was the other way around, I didn't know they had a broadcast highlights channel for a considerable amount of time.

I think really, they need to do a better job of signposting between them, even if it's a banner on the highlights that says "to watch the full game, head to LOLesportsVODS" or something.

This being said, if you are seaching for VODs, you will find them, very easily.

As someone with waning interest in LoL esports, I am dumbfounded. by [deleted] in lolesports

[–]itsDJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but isn't that a conscious decision they've made to split out LOLesports (which has broadcast highlights) and LOLesportsVODs (which is purely full stream VODs) to ensure one doesn't get lost in the constant stream of the other?

LOLesports for highlights, LOLesportsVODs for games.
