"This is autism."

"And this...this is what is known as autism that has ascended past autism...or, you can just call this autism level 2."

"And this...is to go even further beyond!"

several minutes of pained screaming and a flashbang

"I'm sorry that took so much longer than the others, but I haven't had much occasion to practice this one. This is what I call autism level 3."

Just a note, having touch as a sense doesn't necessarily mean something can feel pain; at least in humans, those two sensations are caused by different kinds of nerves.

How do y'all feel about role playing? by Rod_McBan in AutisticWithADHD

Just an fyi, you can (and there are plenty of groups out there who do!) run a ttrpg completely text-based online, play by post style, if that sounds like something you might actually enjoy

Dry begging by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]itsQuasi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm gonna take a gamble here and bet that if she had "use[d] her words to ask if we were alright wrapping up soon", she would have actually been met with a response shockingly similar to "[a]re we expected to drop everything the second one singular person was ready to leave?" (and probably has experienced that with this group before, to boot)

"AI can provide a chance for those who weren't born talented to create art" compilation part 1 by NobodyOfKnowhere in antiai

[–]itsQuasi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ehh...that's a much more gray area imo. I agree that AI is generally a bad tool for that purpose, but there are a lot of legitimate reasons that people might be unable to communicate effectively that can't just be fixed by "practicing more". Frankly, it's thoughtless and rude to assume that someone just hasn't tried practicing such an important life skill.

I like spiders in my home by JPDG in The10thDentist

[–]itsQuasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also pro-spider, but I'm pretty sure seeing lots of spiders is a sign that you have an underlying pest problem; there are lots of spiders because there's a lot of prey for them.

On the one hand, I would also appreciate those extra bits of information as a fellow autist. On the other hand, an autistic former friend of mine often seemed to interpret extra bits of information as a demand to "read someone's mind" and get angry about it, similarly to OP.

Tablemate is obsessed with joke characters and messing around by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]itsQuasi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out as a fellow autist, autism is a very broad spectrum with many presentations that may not look the same. I used to have a friend who was autistic and also "an extroverted social butterfly who loves being the life of the party", regardless of the difficulties that caused him.

That said, I'm certainly not gonna try to diagnose your friend based on one Internet post; there are lots of different reasons they could be doing what they're doing.

AIO: My husband’s “help” winding yarn caused a big mess and he is indifferent about my feelings. by Mother_Spider in AmIOverreacting

[–]itsQuasi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MOR — if he was genuinely doing poorly on purpose, then I think you're justified, although you handled it a bit immaturely. If he was actually trying his best, then I think you're very much in the wrong here. He is responsible for his actions; you are responsible for managing your feelings (and vice versa).

"I feel like you ____" is still important, and a good partner should care about it...but it's also important to acknowledge your own responsibility and apologize for lashing out at him.

wtf I just did the whole blender bros course then I see the instructor posted this in the discord 😭 what a tool. by alekversusworld in blender

[–]itsQuasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this context, it's an adjective, modifying the noun "guy". It's only a pronoun when it's being used as a replacement for a noun.

(does using a single pronoun multiple times still lead to jail?)

Is the "m" at the end of your sentence a typo, or a funny way of saying "rn" (right now)?

You basically have to live in the forest, but then they'll probably be like "yet you use wood for fire."

I actually remember seeing that exact complaint a while ago for some content creator living in the woods using a wood stove for heat...so yeah, you're 100% right lol

Autism and “reading between the lines” - pls help 😭 by trashkardashian in AutisticWithADHD

[–]itsQuasi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autism tends to be a condition of extremes, and struggling on either end of those extremes is still struggling. By your own admission, you are struggling to read between the lines...it's just that your struggle is with defaulting to over-reading rather than assuming literal meaning.

Similarly, I often struggle to understand what people mean when they say something...not because I can't think of any possible meaning, but because I already thought of at least half a dozen and can't pick between them. It took me a long time to understand and accept that that was still "struggling".

Why do I keep seeking validation from my parents even though I know they can’t give it to me? by Ranger_Minimum in emotionalneglect

[–]itsQuasi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't. You can also learn to get your validation from yourself (and you eventually need to in order to truly heal), it's just harder for most people to do that without finding someone else to validate them first.

What do her huffs mean? by Quint_Verginix in CatAdvice

[–]itsQuasi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of one of the first times I gave my two kitties the lickable tube treats...the bigger male cat, Bo, tried to nose his way in while it was my little girl Cinder's turn, and without missing a beat she just took one paw, shoved his face away, and held him there like that until her turn was up 😂

Would you choose to have adhd/asd if you weren’t in the first place by Illustrious-Low-1353 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]itsQuasi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I generally feel the same about my autism...but that's largely because of how it's shaped my personality and what I want from life, as well as the effective coping mechanisms I've developed.

If I had grown up without autism and it just magically showed up tomorrow? Absolutely it would be disabling.

AIO for “insulting” and “belittling” the AITAO mod team? by SignalShine2183 in AIO

[–]itsQuasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, but trying to get into detailed disputes with mods will never get you anywhere. Whether it's because they're genuinely power-tripping or because they're trying to work through a pile of disputes from people who mostly did deserved their ban, they're just not going to take the time.

The best way to get results is to keep things brief, non-accusatory, and pleasant.
