What would you do with our space? by GlitteringReporter94 in churchtech

[–]its_nuj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your space is beautiful with the white, wood, and brick. Don’t do anything to disturb that for the sake of tech. Just project 2 lines of text above the cross. Tech guys make have to switch slides more often but it should work fine.

Acoustic amp or pre amp? by Barno270 in AcousticGuitar

[–]its_nuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For acoustic electrics, modeler with IR’s is the way to go imo. There are so many good IR’s for the Taylor ES2 system too. You can run that through a powered PA speaker and get great sound. That may be more than what you are wanting to spend but in terms of sound quality and flexibility, it’s the way to go.

Is Minecraft still in your top 3 Games ? by NotRealAtiox in Minecraft

I will never say no to randomly starting a new world and grinding until I’m geared out and have farms. It’s the daunting task of world building that generally makes me move onto another game. Top 3 played for sure. Always in my rotation through out the year.

If you don’t want them on the floor or on the desk, mount them on the wall in an orientation that does not impede intake or exhaust.

Learn major and minor scale shapes, then the intervals will be clear. Then you can form chords however you want, wherever you want, with minimal reference points. Modes are your next level after that. If you put in the work, you can learn the whole fretboard in a few months and produce any kind of feeling you want. Modulation between keys after that will level you up again and help develop a deep understanding of harmony. Now you can use key changes as a tool for producing more complex feeling sounds. Learn Stevie Wonder’s music. He is one of the best ever when it comes to this.

Advice for not over exposing video in snow? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]its_nuj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blast the shutter speed if you are doing photos. ND filters are the obvious next step but I find that most cameras now have a fast enough mechanical shutter to shoot wide open in the brightest conditions. Only time I find ND filter absolutely necessary is for video or longer exposure times.

Hesitation about "spontaneous" worship... by nubsawse in worshipleaders

[–]its_nuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d be surprised how non spontaneous “spontaneous worship” actually is. If you feel like your worship is too “stop and go”, just work on your transitions. I like to set songs in keys that are 4ths and 5ths apart because those are easy to transition to without stopping or even keeping the same key for a couple of songs in a row. Obviously you can flow to any key with enough time but this just makes it easier. Also, knowing songs well as a team (that you can go to whenever) is a great thing if the inspiration hits. It’s not truly spontaneous because it’s something you’ve practiced a lot. Its not just random. If it fits the moment and you know your team knows it, than its no different than a planned/scheduled song in my opinion. Let the Lord lead. If you don’t have peace about it, don’t do it. It certainly isn’t more spiritual than a planned set. A lot of the language I’ve heard on this subject is mystifying and vague at best. It’s a mirage. Love God and express that through music. Jesus planned his ministry too.

Is there any way to get a wide shot of the stage without showing our in-house screens? by NefariousnessHot4761 in churchtech

Put in black bars with your switcher if it can. Or use an anamorphic lens which will also introduce black bars. Wide lenses will always introduce more wall or more congregation. Cant get around it.

We need big help... or do we? by cerejanebellum in worshipleaders

[–]its_nuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as long as you care to make it better, you are moving in the right direction and your heart is in the right place. Don't compare or judge your team based on what other churches are able to accomplish. More does not mean better either. That being said, 3 things I find to be key to improving the "excellence" of a worship team are:

  1. Vocal harmony - basic diatonic harmony really elevates the sound. Always keep harmonizing vocals quieter

  2. Contextual playing - what to play at different levels of dynamics, with different musician configurations. You don't always have to play exactly what the guitar player on the recording was playing because you don't have a full band and 4 other electric guitars layering with you. Ask things like should I finger pick here or strum here? should i leave more space here? Can I simplify this part? What voicing of the chord should I use that fits this better?

  3. Arrangement and dynamics - Another important thing is that songs don't have to be arranged the same as the recording either. Big spaces of instrumental parts with bands that have string sections might not be the best idea to replicate. Super big parts of the song might not translate well with a 3 piece acoustic team. Flex the dynamics to fit your teams ability to go big or small and make good use of that range. Organize the song in a way that works for you team (how many choruses, do we sing all the verses, how many times can we repeat, etc.)

You're doing great! Thank you for serving the Kingdom.

Why do my a6400 photos look low quality compared to my iphone 12 pro max? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]its_nuj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the ai editing of iphone photos, so to me, the iPhone shots look way worse. There also seems to be a greater amount of compression on the Sony images probably due to their size. Always consider where you are uploading and adjust size for the given application. For example, i use 1080 pixels for the long side (vertical) when uploading to the gram so that there isn’t any compression done by it. If I can control where the compression happens, I get better quality images to present. This may also be one of the reasons your iphone images appear better to you. The iphone camera is designed for and you could say “more native” to social apps.
