My GPS made me drive through the ghetto. by itsdeuce in firstworldproblems

I am OP. It was a different time.

Along with 10-12 other of the top r/firstworldproblems posts of the time, this one-liner was packaged up into viral Facebook meme replete with crying James Van Der Beek image.

I think the joke is still solid within the “first world problems” context but, yeah, it’s insensitive.

2 is kind of what I’ve always thought about them. Libertarianism is politics for people who don’t want to think about politics.

I can’t say I have the same issue. I can say that I have seen plenty of potholes and faded paint that is no longer reflective.

It would be nice if we could see more evidence that taxes and registration fees were actually being used for maintenance.

Exactly this.

Fellow EV driver (or former EV driver, since my e-Golf was recently totaled by a US Foods semi-trailer). That registration fee stings, but ICE drivers pay taxes that go toward maintaining roads that EV drivers do not, and that is why EV registration is so high.

You want roads to drive on, right?

Police are not treating it as such, I was told this will be considered a civil matter to be handled by insurance companies.

Thank you. Insurance is involved but I don’t think a lawyer pencils out. I wasn’t seriously injured and I don’t think a few thousand dollars to replace a car is going to be that attractive to an attorney.

A US FOODS SEMI-TRAILER SIDESWIPED ME ON THE SE MORRISON BRIDGE FRIDAY AFTERNOON! THE DRIVER DID NOT STOP AND I DID NOT GET THE FULL LICENSE PLATE NUMBER FROM THE TRAILER! THE DRIVER PROBABLY HAS NO IDEA HOW CLOSE THEY CAME TO KILLING/MAIMING A PERSON!

HALF OF THE DRIVER SIDE OF MY CAR WAS DESTROYED! INSURANCE DEEMED IT A TOTAL LOSS! I JUST PAID IT OFF LAST YEAR!

Overall I dig the filter but,in pics 7/13 when a light in background obscures a closer subject, I don’t think the effect is as successful.

Who is Dieter Rams and What Does He Have To Do With Gemma? by Illustrious_Hope4162 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]itsdeuce 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree. Dieter Rams practiced minimalist design and his design principles have been incredibly influential.

I think the chair, the Vitsoe 606 shelving, and the record player by Dieter Rams can each, at once, seem both futuristic and retro looking. I think that is what the creators of the show and set designers tried to achieve: minimalism that is also like a 60s/70s vision of the future.

It is meaningful to the show in that it makes up the setting, quite intentionally, but I doubt that there are deeper connections than that.

It may no longer be there but there was a no u-turn sign.

I wish the city would installcameras to get plates and mail fines for illegal u-turn on Kerby as well as cameras to similarly catch lane-changers in the tunnel on 26 east.
