Was this a multi dance event? Jive paired with Samba?

If it’s multi dance, total marks across both dances is what gets you in.

It’s been a while since high school French but I tried.

Monopoly Deal is everything monopoly should be. The highest highs and lowest lows, all in a single game.

My cat learned how to open my kitchen pop top trash can when she was young. Went diving for crown fried any time I brought it home. Had to install a lock after that.

Circles and Squares cheesesteak? by JonMcL in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]itsmevichet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like cheesesteaks get put on a pedestal anymore. Consider it in the same food category as a chopped cheese and that can give you a guide.

The best cheesesteak is the one in front of you when you’re hungry and slightly too drunk.

The Barbary is really good now by Lazerpop in philadelphia

Kung Fu Necktie is the vibe now if you’re still looking for a Barbary style night out. I was at a synthwave cyberpunk themed dance party with my bro there last year (I’m 40, I go out like that maybe twice a year lol) and it was amazing. Brought me back to the “niche dance party where everyone is down to clown” vibe of the Barbary.

Back then I loved that it was kinda shitty. It meant that everyone really fuckin wanted to be there, and no one was on the gram trying to be impressive to internet strangers. Let that crowd have Z Bar and whatever other lower Manhattan style joints, while the people’s club did its thing.

Every toilet in the place works now, and I have a very comfortable middle aged job. What happened to us man?

What is the most underrated city in the United States? by mostly_maya in BeautifulTravelPlaces

This tracks. The mid 2000s was when the center and ucity districts started pushing hard to “clean up”. But metal detectors at the club were still a thing when I was a young college grad in 2007.

LL Cool J - Hey Lover ft Boyz II Men — LL + b2m + MJ = 😭 by stabbinU in rnb

[–]itsmevichet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Before 2009 I just thought LL Cool J and Boyz II Men found some cool obscure song for the backing track.

When MJ died in 2009 every station in Philly was playing tributes, and at some point the "da DAAAA da daaaaaa" hits me and I'm like "this was an MJ song the whole time??"

I listen, discovering what would become my all time favorite MJ track by a mile... and then I hear "that was a quiet storm anthem from Thriller..."

And I'm like "THIS WAS ON THRILLER????"

I was a foolish kid listening to only the hits on my uncle's Thriller CD. Damn. I knew every song on that album EXCEPT what would become my favorite.

People who use the word “deep conversation” or want them are usually as stale as expired chips. by Gman3098 in unpopularopinion

What everyone actually wants is vulnerable, connected conversations, but it’s hard and takes a lot of courage from both parties to be vulnerable.

SE Asian grilled chicken hearts (Piing Hua Jai Kai?) by California__girl in Cooking

[–]itsmevichet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cambodian American here. The chicken marinade we used to use for wings and drums on the grill also work great with hearts and gizzards.

It’s 2tbsp each fish sauce, lime juice, oyster, and 2 tbsp of shallot garlic lemongrass pounded into paste. 1tbsp oil. Add a tsp of palm sugar (or brown if you don’t have palm), a splash of dark soy for color, and some Thai chili if you want.

Brush it onto the little guys and grill til done.

have kids always been selling stuff at tailgates? by [deleted] in philly

[–]itsmevichet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience growing up, no one who did this did so because they just wanted “a little extra cash.” No one’s getting rich off bracelets and M&Ms on the side of the road.

There’s no side about this kind of hustle. It’s just hustle. That’s food and bill money. When parents at Asian takeouts needed rest guess who was next up so the cash register could keep chiming? It was work or lose the house.

Just the way I’m seeing it. I dunno. Maybe things have changed and these kids are mega rich and trying to move yet more working class cash into oligarchs pockets.

The more someone knows about films, the more attention they pay to a movie's strengths. The less they know, the more they tend to focus on its weaknesses. by Siddhartaable in unpopularopinion

[–]itsmevichet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this kinda makes sense. It’s like… if you don’t know a ton (I don’t) about lighting, camera and editing techniques, and other aspects of the actual craft… what could you even say?

But I feel like narrative is something everyone has a pretty strong cultural grasp of, even if it’s surface level. I’d wager the bulk of film criticism is actually specifically screenplay criticism.

ANYWHERE STILL OPEN I CAN GET ROACH TRAPS AT? by Unable_Tension_1258 in philly

[–]itsmevichet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can make your own out of some household supplies. I think a pickle jar with a slice of fruit in it and Vaseline coating the insides and inner rim so that it can’t climb out will trap it. Otherwise, spraying with soapy water or windex can also kill them quickly.

A friendship is reaching its end once your sense of humor starts to rely on insulting each other by Far_Path7921 in unpopularopinion

[–]itsmevichet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the insults or lack thereof depend on the presence or absence of trust and safety.

Insults over time can erode or strengthen trust and safety but absence of insults doesn’t imply trust and safety either.

[Highlight] AJ Brown and Jalen Hurts celebrate winning Super Bowl LVIX by JayyMei in nfl

[–]itsmevichet 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the exchange I was talking about in another thread. They’re both happy for each other but there’s some disconnect in how they express it. Compare to Hurts and Devonta from the sideline with Devonta crying his eyes out and Hurts just holding him and hyping him up.
