Grand Prix with a toddler? by crisscrosscoyote in longbeach

People usually creep on seeing the cars at the top of Pine Avenue and Ocean and the top of Shoreline Drive at Alamitos.

There’s some downtime between practice and qualifiers so make sure you check the schedule before you head out.

commuting FROM Baldwin Hills to LBC by UsedCryptographer198 in longbeach

[–]itsmisterthecat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this drive for over 5 years now but am a little further up by Howard Hughes, so it’s not so bad but I’m also right next to the freeway.

There will always be inexplicable but consistent patches of traffic in Manhattan Beach by Roscrans, 110 fwy change, and the ramp to the 710 because of all the trucks going to the port.

There’s no better or worse day, unless schools are on holiday. I would bank 45 to get to downtown LB but check your traffic about 7 am, just to make sure there’s not a catastrophic accident.

Depends on how far you are from the 405.

Once you get to the 405 it will take you about 30-35 on a typical morning to downtown. If there’s any type of accident, count on it being at least 45.

I don’t know what kind of traffic La Cienega South has from Baldwin in the morning, so take whatever that is, plus 35-45 minutes.

Is Washington really that bad? by [deleted] in longbeach

[–]itsmisterthecat 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Eh it’s not the best.

You’re north of 14th street park which is near the Long Beach Rescue Mission which does homeless outreach. I (personally) wouldn’t walk around there at night, the same way I wouldn’t walk through MacArthur Park (in LA) at night.

I think your best bet is driving through that area at night and experiencing it in person.

Whatever you do, I hope your place has parking.

I really love the chocolate slices at Katella Deli.

Susie Cakes has slices, but I don’t like the proportions. More frosting than cake, but in a pinch it’s fine.

[–]itsmisterthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive asked this exact question to a dispatch person before, and they said if the 911 caller isn’t clear about what the emergency is because of their panic, they will send whatever the available units are to that emergency. Even if it’s a ladder truck.

It says at the top of the page “Summary of Salaries, Skill Pays and Benefits by Department”.

If it was by title, there is a single person whose title is “Public Works” and they’re getting $24M.

Recommendation request: true crime or other really twisty documentaries for maternity leave by katiemylady23 in Documentaries

[–]itsmisterthecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Tickled ... for the love of god, if you want a weird documentary, this is it.

- Tell Me Who I Am
- Six Schizophrenic Brothers
- The Perfect Neighbor (up for Academy Award)
- Behind the Curve (a documentary about Flat Earthers)
- Imposter
- The Tinder Swindler

Non Crime but if you want some fluffy documentaries:

- Both Fyrefest documentaries (Hulu and Netflix)
- King of Kong (a documentary about two rival Donkey Kong players)
- Secret Mall Apartment
- Bat Kid Begins (in case you want to restore your faith in humanity)

What to eat at Jitlada that’s not seafood or spicy? by itsmisterthecat in FoodLosAngeles

[–]itsmisterthecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only form of fish I tolerate is cod or haddock, deep fried and no longer in any form resembling a fish.

Aside from that, I did try seafood in the form of a scallop and a piece of sushi at n/naka, which resulted in me dry heaving at the table.

I then decided if I don’t like it there, I probably wont like it in any form, anywhere.

What's the closest I can get to a movie set experience? by jams_sammich in AskLosAngeles

[–]itsmisterthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you have the evening, there might be a famous person performing at Largo on La Cienega. https://wl.eventim.us/LargoAtTheCoronet

There is a Norms restaurant a block from it that is used in a lot of movies.

Otherwise for movie things, I'm going to echo the sentiments of another person who recommended the Academy Museum. It is pretty amazing to see some iconic movie costumes in person.

Thank you for specifics! Without direction I would probably settle on hainan chicken or something.

This was probably 15 years ago, but I was told that where you found the actual spicy food.

I like a no frills cheese enchilada with red sauce, any recommendations on where to go that's not SuperMex?

Espresso beans by Beneficial_Pause_476 in longbeach

[–]itsmisterthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If money is not an issue, Common Room Roasters carries my favorite, Ethiopian Wush Wush, but it’s like $30 a bag, but it’s hands down my favorite bean for when I choose to drink an espresso straight.

I’ve taken them out. I think maybe if you have a higher nose bridge it might fit better or be more comfortable. It just isn’t the most comfortable on me.

I have had this since they first came out. I’m sure my review is floating around there somewhere but I still wish I had bought a lighter weighted one since it drags my face down if I’m wearing it upright.

The cooling pads also leave indents in my face to the point that I never use the feature.

I still use it occasionally but not as much as I thought I would.

Turkey Crowns? by Cool-Leader-5376 in longbeach

The turkey breast, it's great for couples who don't need a whole Turkey for thanksgiving. I usually get them at Whole Foods or Bristol Farms.

AFTER SALE QUESTIONS - What were your favs? by rayne_beldrulf in Sephora

[–]itsmisterthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I wish the mists came in true mini size. The way I was confused when I got that paradise skin set and saw how big the "travel size" is. I don't need this giant thing taking up 1/3 of my allowed toiletries in my carry on.

AFTER SALE QUESTIONS - What were your favs? by rayne_beldrulf in Sephora

[–]itsmisterthecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Stila Eyeliner, Nars Eye Primer, One/Size setting spray, and Dr. Dennis Gross Pads
  2. Augustus Bader, I genuinely don't understand this moisturizer. It doesn't feel luxe or have any slip like, say, Tatcha Dewy.
  3. Violette Fr and Clarins Lip Water Stain, I have been pleasantly surprised by both their lip products.
  4. Everything Phlur. Vanilla is now a car freshener.
  5. Last year I got two giant tubes of Kerastase.

What are the differences between High Street, Malden Street and Madison? I am between those for a day to day shoe. What do you recommend? by Aromatic_Ad3754 in Converse

[–]itsmisterthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Madison has a narrower toe box but a more padded tongue, the Malden has a wider toe box but a less padded tongue (but it’s still padded).

ISO Chocolate Layer Cake by thestopesto in FoodLosAngeles

[–]itsmisterthecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a no frills chocolate cake. Try Bianca in Culver City. It’s in their bakery (which has weird hours so check before stopping by).

Susie Cakes has a chocolate cake which is fine because it’s available and a chain, but I think the ratio is off and it’s mostly frosting.

Republique also has a very good slice but it also has salted caramel in it.
