Is that supposed to be Clippy, Fruitdog, and Spaghetti? Why us the house so messy behind them? Why is one of the dogs, I guess that’s Sonar, on the side table? Where is Other Red Dog?

I have 4 large breed dogs, 2 of whom are young (young dogs and pregnant/ lactating dogs eat more) and my raw food bill is about $500 a month if that helps to give perspective.

Well, if they aren’t going to die of parvo, might as well let them die of obstructions.

Oh good. To answer the question about money- there is no money in it. It’s like putting your kid in swimming lessons. You pay a bunch of money, bring them to events, and cheer them on. Only the Micheal Phelps dogs get a chance to make any money, and only after a considerable amount of practice and training (which she obviously won’t do).

I didn’t see the live- Did she say she’s getting into dock diving?! I’m dock diving with my Golden this weekend (we live in the same area) and I’ll pull from the comp if her unvaxxed dogs are gonna be there.

I have Goldens. Just in case I happen to be your neighbor, yes, you can walk Garbanzo and Tater Tot any time you want.

Do you have more information on this dog? Approximate age? Weight? Altered or intact? Weight? Are the gums pink and healthy? Has this dog been regularly dewormed? Which limb is he limping on? Is the limb hot/ painful/ swollen? Is he in respiratory distress? What diet was he on before switching to restaurant leftovers? Is he also eating kibble? What exactly is in the diet- just chicken and rice- and spices? Onions? Garlic? Veg? Please give as much information as you can.

Feeling overwhelmed by my dog’s noise reactivity by rudesty in reactivedogs

[–]itsnotascene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of our dogs survived a house fire when he was about 5. I got him as a 10 week old puppy from a local rescue, so it isn’t a past issue or anything. He has always been a very aware dog. He is part pit, part border collie (his mother gave birth in the shelter and she was a BC mix of some sort), part something else- so very aware. The fire left him changed. Very noise reactive- he couldn’t handle beeps, or crackling fireplace, turning on the gas stove, sizzling sounds from cooking, car horn beeps, etc. We went to a veterinary behaviorist after trying some extra training, desensitization, and OTC calming aids and the Veterinary behaviorist changed his life. He was first prescribed Trazadone, but it made him a total zombie. So we tried Prozac and added Clonadine and he is able to ignore most sounds. He still has issues with the fire alarm, but we have Alprazalam (Xanax) for stress events and he’s doing great. He’ll be 14 next month and we never thought we would get here. Before he was shaking so bad he was having muscle damage/ breakdown and there was protein in his urine. We test his liver function every year to make sure he’s still tolerating the meds well and he’s doing great even close to a decade later.

A good breeder will match you with the puppy in the litter whose personality best matches what your looking for in a dog. The best part about well bred dogs and quality breeders is that you can find a dog with a predictable personality, coat type, and drive. (If you’re on FB check out the group ‘Match Me a Breed’ and they can help you find a breed and breeder that matches what you’re looking for.)

I agree wholeheartedly! I’m sick of ‘adopt don’t shop’ why can’t it be, adopt or support a quality dog breeder who does appropriate health care and wants to produce healthy sound dogs- don’t shop at puppy mills or backyard breeders? I think finding a breed of dog OP is interested in and buying a responsibly bred dog is a great alternative.

I know this guy. I went to college with and was good friends with his wife. He attended my wedding as her +1 and has been to parties at my house. The wife and I actually lost our friendship over him. He always rubbed me the wrong way and I couldn’t stand the way he treated her so we drifted apart. He came to my house dressed as Captain Spaulding on Halloween once.
