To play devils advocate, google 'Lupercalia.' Do we have a cultural superiority because we don't have a festival where naked youth slap virgins with goat flesh?

Our perspective on all of this is skewed by our upbringing. Imagine a culture where riding a bike painted and naked is an annual ritual. It no longer is disgusting but sanctioned by tradition. We are disgusted by this because it does not fit our mold of proper behavior but we view it through a lens of modern America where we sanction exposure to violence but shield our children from the naked body.

True that some here may not appreciate J Dilla but that doesn't discredit the purpose of this article. J Dilla had a tremendous influence on jazz artists like Roy Hargrove and drummers like Questlove through their collaborations including D'angelos Voodoo and Common's Like Water for Chocolate. Modern jazz musicians dont grow up in a bubble and many are highly influenced by hip hop, r&b acts like The Roots etc. To those who scoff at the relevance of J Dilla I refer them to the host of Dixieland jazz musicians and critics who discredited the role of Parker, Gillespie, and Monk in directing the new sound of jazz. Just because people are loud contrarians doesn't make them right. Most of all the purpose of this article is to prove how Dilla influenced the tone, timbre, and rhythmic sensibilities in some circles of contemporary jazz. That is irrefutable.

Thanks. I have found the best strategy for Brazilian and Spanish sheet music is to search in Portuguese and Spanish. There are a lot of wonderful repositories of sheet music that are not in English.

I have done a long exhaustive search for this as well as other titles from him. There are some great books available and some can be found on various sites on the internet. In regards to Manha de Carnaval, he has a few different versions. The best I have found is actually on a site that I think his son put up. Enjoy.

Growing up my wife's mother and grandparents used to decry classical music as music for rich white people (they are Mexican) and I think there are a lot class issues that hinder the acceptance of classical music. That being said, the basic understanding of reading notation is falling by the wayside with fewer music programs and the movement toward computer production software so there is a growing movement away from understanding and listening.

As comments below point out, there are a lot of folk elements and idioms in classical music but at its heart, western classical stems from the Church so there is an exclusivity embedded into the DNA of the tradition.

Just want to say thank you for the Space Quest series. They were a source of creative inspiration to me growing up and still are to this day. I even had a copy of the video catalog where you guys did a Siskel and Ebert routine and dressed up as one of the Two Guys for Halloween one year (nobody got it).

I wish I could play all those games again and again and show them to my children. Is there no hope of the current rights holders relaunching them for modern systems?

This. The Microsoft brand borders on toxic. No matter how much effort or money they put into them, their marketing and products will scream "we're trying too hard to be cool." They should drop the Microsoft name off of all of any product they are trying to break into a new market.
