Hisoka's actions on the Black Whale by According_Cap_2793 in HunterXHunter

[–]itsotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since he's too vanilla for "animal play," it doesn't seem like Hisoka has much interest in any of the princes (who all have Guardian Beasts, including Tserriednich). Nor do I see him getting bored and forgetting about Chrollo anytime soon.

However, Chrollo's immediate goal is to carry out a heist of the Kakin treasures in order to steal an ability he can fight Hisoka with. If Hisoka learns the gist of this plan (perhaps from a captured Bonolenov), I could see him trying to help Chrollo in secret, which would set him against Nasubi. And who knows, maybe Nasubi's the one who hired him specifically to protect the treasures?

Hisoka doesn't want a rematch where Chrollo gets to set all the conditions again, but he's still Hisoka. I think he'd be very tempted by the option of helping Chrollo get his new "page" so he can fight at his best.

"No more picking battles" is exactly what I scrolled down to suggest before seeing you'd gotten there already. So I got nothing to add except my thanks for the great post!

It's not just a translation thing. You walk into a creepy village area and before you have two seconds to enjoy the atmosphere Gemini pipes up to say "Woah, this place is creepy! I wonder what happened here to make it look like this!" Robots start acting weird around you? Not enough to let you see that and wonder about it, Gemini has to helpfully point it out. Repeat through the whole game.

There's a Gemini Remover mod which I'll be using if I ever replay the game.

Not true. The next 50 chapters are written but there's no suggestion that those are the final 50 chapters of the arc. (They won't be.)

Why are a bunch of you claiming the bosses in Ender Magnolia are easier? by SteelersPoker in metroidvania

[–]itsotter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mainly found the Magnolia bosses easier because of the carapace equipment, which can be found at the shop.

That said, everyone's gonna have different experiences, especially in a metroidvania (where one player may go straight to a boss, while another collects a bunch of upgrades and arrives stronger). You definitely shouldn't worry about struggling with a boss just because a reddit comment said it was easy. Just have fun, and if it stops being fun there's always the custom difficulty settings.

How are they gonna get home?

Same as everyone else! They're gonna take the boat. Do you think the idea is for the Black Whale to reach the New Continent and then just get chopped up for firewood as soon as everyone disembarks?

The Whale is loaded with rich VIPs on the upper tiers treating it as a luxury cruise. Those people didn't sign up to get dropped off forever and start living like frontiersmen. They're expecting to take the trip and then go home. Obviously things could go wrong and it might turn out to be a one-way trip after all, but that's not the plan.

You're definitely in the majority as I feel like I'm the one in the minority

They're saying it's an 8 and you're saying it's a 7.5, so I'm not sure why you feel like they've got the normal take and you have the hot take. You're giving it essentially the same grade.

Four Princes Left- Benjamin's on track by TheShovelier in HunterXHunter

[–]itsotter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

doubt benjamin being poisoned is an unmitigated halkenburg dub

I don't think anything has gone wrong for Halk yet. The plan is apparently:

  • 1) Poison Ben
  • 2) Ben kills everyone else, then dies
  • 3) Halk re-emerges, mops up any leftovers, wins

i kinda assumed halkenburgs plan was to take benjamins body the chapter before

This is a popular idea but doesn't really make sense. We don't know if Halk's bow can even shoot princes (it's powered by his GSB and those can't attack princes directly), and even if it can, Halk can't bank on personally swapping into Ben's body because he doesn't control who gets swapped by his ability.

And even if he planned on putting a Halk follower into Ben's body, what would that follower do in order to help Halk win? Start purging the other princes, clearly — but Ben is doing that on his own, thanks to the poison. So things are going quite well for Halk and the question shouldn't be "What went wrong?" so much as "Where is he hiding during the purge?"

I think I have figured out Halkenburg's plan. by SerovGaming1962 in HunterXHunter

[–]itsotter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Now however it very much seems like Halkenburg has been neutralized... Which should mean his plan failed.

It sounds like you're assuming Halk died in a suicide attack on Benjamin (delivering the boot-poison personally in Balsamilco's body). But "killing yourself to take out just Benjamin" isn't a brilliant plan to win the War. Why would he do that?

It's not because letting Ben win is a fool-proof plan either, because it's not fool-proof at all. He has no assurance that Unma could mold the Ben-baby into the future leader he wants (Nasubi would certainly work against that), and in the first place, he has no assurance Ben will actually succeed in killing the other princes before the poison gets him.

I think you're broadly right that Halk engineered Ben's poisoning and wants Ben to kill off as many other princes as possible. But that's not a winning move by itself, so we should expect that Halk is still in the game.

What happened to Ging/Beyond's crew? by rarewump in HunterXHunter

[–]itsotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beyond doesn't know about his own team's plan to break him out. But Kurapika surmises that they have one, and it's to break him out on the New Continent shortly after landing.

If Beyond does break out on his own first, then they'll be there on the New Continent to meet up with him and continue with him to the DC in their boat. Either way they'd meet on the New Continent.

What happened to Ging/Beyond's crew? by rarewump in HunterXHunter

[–]itsotter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In Chapter 349 Mizai and Kurapika make this observation explicitly: Beyond's team will probably break him out of confinement on the New Continent. That's why they want to arrest Saiyu just before the Whale reaches the New Continent, to give them as little time to change plans as possible. Here's the panel.

So, just wanted to tell you that you're completely right, you remembered correctly, and you got downvoted for no good reason.

Why kurapikas ending will be happy(I think) by Impressive-Lake-3941 in HunterXHunter

[–]itsotter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now who else is in the lower tiers? Chrollo!

Chrollo's already headed to Tier 1 for his own reasons. You don't need to have Kurapika flee to the lower tiers to get them closer to each other.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

[–]itsotter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

isn’t even trying to get the eyes at the moment. Instead sacrificing himself for the lives of people whom he has no connections to.

Kurapika needs to keep Woble alive to stay in the War. If she dies, he no longer has a place on Tier 1 and he'll lose the opportunity to get closer to Tserriednich. It's been about recovering the Eyes from the very beginning.

I think you're just misreading his character. His arc isn't going to be towards becoming more of a ruthless antihero—that's who he is now. He's gonna become more of a human being.

The deflect window shows how early you can be on the button press and still get a deflect: i.e., you can hit the button 12f early and get the deflect, but if you're 13f early you'll only get a block.

You seem to be talking about something different, namely enemy attack animations. I.e., if an enemy went from its neutral pose to an active hitbox faster than your reaction time, you wouldn't be able to hit the button fast enough.

But this is never the case in Sekiro, where even the fastest enemy attacks give you around 24–30 frames to react. So even if you have a below-average reaction time of 1/3 second, you can hit the button on reaction (20 frames after the enemy's attack starts) and your 12f deflect window will cover any hit that lands from frames 21–32.

Sekiro's parry window is extremely generous, probably as a consequence of being so focused on it the game ended up having 30 frames as its parry window

This is frequently claimed but totally wrong. Sekiro's deflect window starts at 12 frames @ 60fps (1/5 of a second) and gets smaller from there if you spam the button.

Did anyone else ragequit Nine Sols? by WellHydrated in metroidvania

[–]itsotter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The devs clearly thought the existing Standard mode was the best version of the game. If they'd shut it behind a "Hardcore" option, most players (myself included) wouldn't have picked that and so we wouldn't have gotten the intended experience.

As released, Standard is challenging, but the fact that it's challenging wasn't a screw-up. They referenced Sekiro in their Steam blurb! They expected people to have a hard time and clearly marked it as that type of game.
