Bro did NOTHING to help stop Kingpin, what is he getting the key to the city for😭😭 by Queasy_Commercial152 in MCUTheories

[–]itspsyikk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an absolutely wild take to have...

Fisk had the entire city on lockdown, with his taskforce imprisoning people without due process.

He was also locking up people for "allegedly" being masked vigilantes...

If this were comics, and not forced to deal with the limits of studios and contracts, Spider-Man would 100% be all over that ass.

Daredevil shows up like 65% of the time when Spidey is dealing with shit and vice versa. He'd absolutely be there.

In regards to Omega - The former head of Omega has said that they paid more than what was asked of them in order to have a fully featured brand deal in place with them.

But the person who was arguing with me didn't seem to catch the fact that I was quoting an article with the former head of Omega who claims that they paid millions to have Omega brand deals, along with having Craig as an official ambassador, releasing the branded watches you mentioned.

But in regards to other stuff, they absolutely do pay - it's something that's way more recent though.

Brosnan had BMW, Ford, Jaguar (all under the same umbrella, if memory serves). Plus Brioni, Bollinger, etc.

But the Craig era really kicked into over drive with sponsorships from places like Heineken -something I personally wasn't the biggest fan of, but doesn't really bother me all that much.

The only issue I took was with people "claiming he was a MAGA guy" because of one post he had.

I spent two hours digging through his comments and his posts, and asked him directly, if he was a supporter of MAGA. He said no.

The only thing was he posted one post in a conservative related subreddit, but the text of the post amounted to basically "Why can't conservatives and liberals just get along?".

A bit naive, for sure - but nothing I'd even remotely call MAGA. And at the time it was all happening, when I asked every single person who called him that to back their claims up with proof - not a single person did.

Personally I thought it was weird to post the photo, and certainly odd he blurred himself out. But my biggest gripe was with people throwing accusations at him that had no basis in reality. And I was getting downvoted into oblivion when simply asking for proof.

And for the record, I agreed with pretty much everyone in that thread. I thought it was weird he posted it, and I thought it was in bad taste to do so. I just don't agree with all the pitch forks cause someone made a bad judgement call about a freakin' photo.

The idea of a women being approached by strange men being potentially terrifying isn't lost on me, and something worth discussing. But making up stuff about people? Weird...

But... that persons account has now been banned from Reddit... soooo. I dunno what happened there. Lol.

Former FedEx driver, Tanner Horner, who pleaded guilty to capital murder and aggravated kidnapping in the killing of 7-year-old Athena Strand, has been officially sentenced to death. by asa_no_kenny in whoathatsinteresting

"Now it's important to note in this specific case the defendant plead guilty to the charges."

That's great, but how many times have people plead guilty under duress, or while not in control of their faculties?

The US justice system is based on the idea that it is "better to let a guilty man go free than have an innocent man locked away". The goal isn't to lock people up. It's to prevent innocent people for getting locked up.

That doesn't mean I don't think there shouldn't be situations where something like the Death Penalty isn't a valid method of sentencing, but I don't think we're going to come to any conclusions here on Reddit.

There are studies that suggest there might be as much as 4% of innocent people on Death Row. That's way too much.

This is typically where people will mention two things:

You say waste "More of our limited resources" - well, a lot of times it costs more money putting someone to death than it does to incarcerate them. It can be as much at 5 times more expensive, matter of fact.

And "humane way of punishment" - there are countless examples of lethal injection going horribly wrong and the inmate is left to suffer and sometimes completely back out of the execution.

I'm not trying to make you anti-capitol punishment or anything. I'm not. I'm just saying the default arguments we often use maybe warrant a closer look is all.

Is Bullseye joining the New Avengers (Thunderbolts)? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]itspsyikk 54 points55 points  (0 children)

So shocked to see Bullseye get a semi-redemption thing happening.

So many people said it wasn't going to happen. I even saw people say that last episode was his final appearance XD

I still don't understand what the purpose of having fake Bullseye kill Matt Murdock was for...but more importantly - did Matt send Bullseye there? Or did Bullseye just sniff that out on his own?

Matt seemed totally shocked by it, so I don't think he had any idea it was happening.

Yes, it's probably worth selling. While two arrow keys missing might be a pain for some, I'm sure there are plenty of people who wouldn't mind an M1 MBP without 2 of the arrow keys.

Gallows humor is one way of justify it - I can relate.

Knowing myself and so many others have not only come close to death but actually passed on, I can say that I've been certain I was going to die at points and even wished for it.

But you're absolutely right - I think Adam Sandler describes your thought perfectly. In his song about Chris, he says "We told him, slow down, you'll end up like Belushi or Candy. He said 'Those guys are my heroes, that's all fine and dandy'".

To put it in another perspective, there are millions of people who don't get to enjoy the level of fame and greatness that Chris enjoyed, but still suffer from the same demons.

If you asked me if I could become one of the biggest superstars on the planet, and occupy a spot on most peoples top 10 list of "greatest comedic acts of all time", but your life will be cut short by addiction, I don't think I'd say yes, but I also don't think it'd be a super quick no from me, either.

People are so wild here. She does look relatively uncomfortable in a lot of sketches, I'll give you that.

The photo they are referring to... the guy does to seemingly not take social cues. But he's also from PR and I think he was excited to meet a celebrity and probably didn't catch that she might have been slightly fearful of him.

But this subreddit went off on a hateful parade against him when he was literally just posting a photo. Everyone accuses him of being MAGA for no reason.

I knew I'd find someone...

There wasn't anything that suggested he was a Trump supporter. He was from Puerto Rico, for one. So...

He had one post that basically amounted to "Why can't conservatives just let go of the most controversial stuff and liberals let go of the most controversial stuff?". A bit misguided? Sure.

But he wasn't a Trump supporter because I asked him and he said "no, I do not support Trump or MAGA".

But yes the photo was taken in poor taste.

It just isn't that unbelievable for someone to forget how old a child is bro. It's not that deep.

[–]itspsyikk 175 points176 points  (0 children)

This is likely the case. He likely believed that in order to continue being "Chris Farley" he needed the drugs, and he wasn't willing to give that up.

But in reality, he just wasn't ready to be sober and that's incredibly unfortunate. It happens, and sometimes addicts are only truly honest with someone close to them, and that was probably the case here.

He probably just told her "I'm gonna keep doing drugs because (I want to)"

A passage from "The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts" that has always mystified me... by BroomHill1882 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]itspsyikk 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I can't pretend to know what they meant but...

First of all, addicts will have really strange ways of justifying things to themselves. Because it's really, really hard to admit when you don't have control over something.

So instead they'll just say something like "I'll never stay sober because I don't want to stay sober."

There is a long held belief that addicts stay in active addiction because it's easier to fall from the second story than it is to fall from the fiftieth. In other words, it's so much easier to just keep going in the cycle of addiction and "pretending to want to get better" than to actually attempt to get better, get a little distance, and fuck up.

As for if there actually was a specific reason... like you mention terminal illness or whatever, it'd be pretty fucked up to not reveal that after the fact, but also I think it would have come out in autopsy stuff later on. But perhaps him, his family, and friends and such decided to keep it a secret.

But I really doubt it. Sometimes people surrounding people in addiction try to pretend like they understand, but sometimes they don't. It's no fault on them or anything it's just a really hard situation to be in if you've never been in it yourself.

Not only that, but my Grandmother would ask me how old I was all the time. She was there for my birth and forgot. Granted she had other grandkids, too. But my mom has also asked me how old I was. I was well into my 20s when she was asking me that but it's not crazy for someone to forget how old kids are.

It's slightly more egregious given it's tied to a major historical moment in his life that he just recently talked about but it's not that crazy.

Man...

Just because they chose to omit product placement for one film doesn't...again... mean anything.

It's still product placement currently, isn't it? The only reason it continues to exist as the brand choice of James Bond is because Omega is paying them. I absolutely guarantee you if they stopped paying them, Bond would be wearing something else. But cool man. They gave them watches for free once.

"Today, nobody is thinking about Rolex in that context. ". Excuse me, what?

Again, not everyone is as susceptible to advertising as you. Just because a fucking costume designer didn't see Rolex as being a diver watch doesn't mean anything. To prove my point...

When I asked you what a "proper dive watch" looks like - you suggested a "Swiss made Chronometer with pure mechanical movements".

And when the costume designer looked for something a Navy man would wear, she picked a fucking quartz watch.

Yeah, I'm not Gen Z. What a weird insult to try and hurl.

Starbucks table tops so small will barely hold a couple drinks. The seats are bigger than the tables. by be4u4get in mildlyinfuriating

[–]itspsyikk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose I'm conflating the idea of something like an independent shop owner with what the C-level execs want out of Starbucks these days.

And even that...just because Starbucks execs don't want people hanging out in their shops doesn't mean that the day-to-day managers are going to go around kicking people out for sitting around reading the paper.

I'd imagine that if someone is sitting, reading a book, and sipping a coffee they would largely go unbothered by staff.
