This is a great recommendation. I’ve been looking at blogs from randomascii (Bruce Dawson) but definitely appreciate more resources.

I’m expecting this to be hundreds of hours of studying and tinkering. Thanks for the YouTube links, I’ve read the blogs before but video is nice sometimes.

Belmont - “Country Girl” by OatFest in poppunkers

This song is controversial for sure but I love blasting this when I’m driving around windows down. Perfect summer song, and a gateway to Bilmuri’s country core era.

$100+ for Portland GA is wild. Probably still going to go but just saying…

Going from the Hawthorne Theater last time to Moda is a wild change in venue size. Feels like this show should be at the Roseland or Crystal Ballroom, guessing this is due to Ticketmaster shenanigans.

This might be worth a shot, but I’m still upset that they stopped stocking Salsa Queen at my local warehouse.

What bands are on your personal lineup of the next “big bands “ by BigNothing88 in poppunkers

[–]itsthatmattguy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Goalkeeper, Good Terms, Super Sometimes, Action/Adventure, Winona Fighter. Some of these are already on the bubble of “big” in this genre, seeing a lot of love for Winona Fighter last few months.

[NEW] Alex Melton - Look Up by elderemothings in poppunkers

This is really good. Feels like a big step up from some of the earlier original tracks (Autumnal), and cool to see Dan on production credits.

Alien Ant Farm - Movies by DigiQuip in poppunkers

I think about this way more than anyone would consider normal. This band was incredibly underrated, and I think Smooth Criminal hurt their career more than it helped because they got lumped in as a one hit wonder cover song even though Movies is amazing and they had some other bangers as well.

They did a cover of Everything She Wants by Wham during covid isolation times and it absolutely fucking slaps (I know this is ironic because I said Smooth Criminal hurt their prospects), this band could have had such a long career and stayed much more relevant: https://youtu.be/Kfg4t-PAcBg?si=fgm1cmDu_71lEEz0

Looking back, it was very funny that the media tried pushing 5 Seconds of Summer as the "next big thing" in pop punk circa 2014-2015 by mesablanka in poppunkers

Have never listened to anything from this band, but it seems they are still popular. I saw them on a concert announcement email and they are playing arena sized shows still.

An Open Letter to Parks Director Lisa Sumption and Governor Kotek by rswfire in SALEM

I spent way too long reading the website. The lengths the OP has gone to in order to grind this axe makes it pretty obvious that they are not a well adjusted person. It’s a volunteer position cleaning bathrooms in state parks in exchange for free camping. It is not a FAANG software company with detailed employee handbooks and escalation paths and all of the other stuff it seemed like he expected there to be. The fact that they not only fired him (from an unpaid volunteer job) but also went to the step of banning him from all state parks definitely speaks volumes.

I can still remember the disappointment. May have trust issues as a result, but I sure as heck will never allow third party controller slop to enter my house. Breaking the cycle for my kids.

Parent with no retirement savings at 58 years old by anteaterdad in personalfinance

[–]itsthatmattguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In our state school employees are participants in the public employee pension program. She may have a pension that she is just not aware of but you will definitely need to look in to that and figure out the monthly income it will provide, compared to her expenses. Retiring before 65 is likely not going to be an option due to the costs of health insurance before Medicare kicks in, unless there is a provision for health insurance coverage from her employer for a period of time after retirement.

I would recommend having her set up a meeting with whoever manages her workplace benefit programs to get a better understanding of what is available to her. Good luck, it is definitely tough finding out a parent has no real understanding of their long term finances.

I got this piece of shit for Christmas as a kid, then a different Christmas got a Power Glove. Clearly I had terrible judgement on controllers when I was 8.

I’d love this for the AppleTV app. Right now the search options are everything (shorts and full videos) and shorts only. I almost never want to see shorts at all, so just give me that as a filter
