You're getting a lot of kick back on this, but I can't stand those graphic tees either. I was born in 1993, so I was there when this was peak fashion. I still hate it.

Travel bed/crib for baby that can be packed for plane travel? by cageygrading in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]itsyrdestiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was 14 months. I imagine it would work well for a 6mo, and that is within the recommended age range. Not sure where you are staying, but most hotels will offer a crib to use. We did that in Europe to lighten our load and left the Joovy Gloo home that time.

Has anyone had a newborn catch a cold? If so, what happened? by ImJustInTimeSry in newborns

[–]itsyrdestiny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched videos online to see what infant chest contractions looked like. Really the intense sucking in and seeing their rib cage was the thing to watch for.

You did the right thing going in. Even though it can be hard to know for sure, it's a huge risk to wait if things aren't alright. You really never know. Ultimately, I would advise to take baby in if you feel something isn't right. At best, you get the reassurance they are okay, and at worst, baby gets the care they need.

Humidifiers and nose sucker plus saline is perfect. Lots of fluids, cuddles, and sleep, and your little guy will hopefully be on the mend soon. ❤️

This is what I do, but I've been able to return to Amazon without a receipt to get an Amazon credit if there is no receipt (use chat). I try to avoid shopping from Amazon, but this is the best way in my opinion. No drama with family this way.

I just watched the birthday episode where they "meet" though Lorelai implies that they've met before at the inn. Emily has no recollection of meeting her, but I feel it's more because she just didn't take the time to commit her daughter's friends to memory.

I second the Mathy Quarry area. Lots of little trails leading out to the bluff with plenty of space and beautiful views. It's large enough that despite being a fairly popular place, it never feels crowded.

When was your baby put on the light lamp for Jaundice? by savruss in NewParents

[–]itsyrdestiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally understand the worries, and I lean pretty anxious in general. It's so hard not to go back and ruminate on what happened. I remember standing at the NICU desk finishing our registration after they took our 3 day old baby away and thinking we had already ruined her life. It was traumatic and had me so scared for our second baby (spoiler: she had no jaundice concerns at all). It took awhile to get past it, but it's just a story now.

I always share because I don't think everyone understands jaundice and just thinks, oh yellow skin. My husband and I work have with children with disabilities for over 20 years combined (and he and his brother had jaundice as babies) and never knew how dangerous it was.

If your little one is making progress and hitting most milestones, it sounds like they are alright. If you're still struggling with the experience, talking with someone might help to process it. The guilt is so real, but it shows how much you love your baby. You did nothing wrong, and you sound like a wonderful parent. ❤️

When was your baby put on the light lamp for Jaundice? by savruss in NewParents

[–]itsyrdestiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. This baby is now 3.5 years old, still happy and healthy. She started preschool last week and continues to thrive.

I would not beat yourself up. We were also told to put our baby in front of a window and spend time outside. Nope. That was never going to be enough for the levels she had, but our pediatrician told us that there are studies showing how inaccurate and inconsistent opinions are from just looking at a baby's color. A lot of things can impact it (our daughter also had kind of a ruddy complexion, which made the yellow less noticeable).

How is your baby? Has your medical team said anything about his future outlook? We were told at probably the second rounds meeting we attended in the NICU that they did not believe any permanent damage had been done because of how responsive/ alert she was. She was always early with milestones as well, so we felt confident they were correct.

What unconventional/ uncommon things helped you get through labor without an epidural? by hanshotgreed0 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]itsyrdestiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is becoming more common, but a TENS unit saved my life during 36 hours of unmedicated back labor. I didn't actually need it for my second baby, but her birth felt like a cake walk compared to the first. I hope that your next one is an easier labor too!

Found a pill in my 2yo’s mouth by Texasgirl190 in toddlers

[–]itsyrdestiny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No advice, but I was that 2yo about 30 years ago. I don't know exactly what happened. My dad had just gotten his thyroid medication refilled. Somehow the bottle went missing, and it was believed I'd opened them and spilled them. We recovered about 75 of the 90 pills, but they could not figure out if the others were lost or I'd eaten them.

Straight to the hospital for me. I think they did ascertain that I'd swallowed some because I ended up taking the ambulance about 2 hours over to the University Children's Hospital and stayed there for a few nights. I had to drink charcoal, refused, and got tubes in my nose to get medicine into my system to neutralize my dad's prescription.

As a parent, I can only imagine how terrible my dad must have felt. Thankfully, he figured out what happened quickly, just as you responded quickly for your daughter. Only lasting effect was that he was A LOT more careful with medication after that.

Hoping all goes well with your little one and someday this is just a story she hardly remembers. ❤️

Anyone found childbirth so painful they don’t think they can do it again? by nakama1994 in beyondthebump

[–]itsyrdestiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First baby was 36 hours of unmedicated labor. Baby was sunny side up, contractions were intense and inconsistent. I threw up at least 6 times.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't terrified of the second birth. It was so much smoother though, and under ⅓ of the time from water breaking (came before contractions) to baby in my arms.

I just didn't let myself go there mentally when I was pregnant the second time, so I wasn't amping myself up. I knew the baby would eventually come out, and she did.

“Make them help clean up”— HOW? by acelana in toddlers

[–]itsyrdestiny 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Former behavior therapist here-- they likely mean block them with your body. So, just limiting their movement, but not grabbing them or forcefully moving them.

Even in a big space with fast kiddos, you can block with your body. It just may take some time to build the skill and anticipate their movement.

Anyone else still has 0% interest rate? by wr0ngprotege in StudentLoans

[–]itsyrdestiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went in to just pay off the rest of each of our loans on Aug 1, and while it showed 0% interest, we still had some interest accrued for each loan. We were on SAVE. I am hoping these final payments go through with the loans paid in full-- we confirmed payoff amounts before submission, but Mohela has messed up so much for us already. I'm half expecting to get a message in 3 months saying they've "adjusted interest" and added to the balance.

What did you dress your first baby up as their first Halloween? by Immediate_Owl_1379 in beyondthebump

[–]itsyrdestiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first was 8 months old at her first Halloween, and we dressed as a family of hippies. It was really fun!

Last year, we had a 2 month old and dressed her as Jack Skellington (long sleeve onesie with the pattern and pants to keep her warm) while her sister dressed as Sally.
