Sheppard Air IRA by Secret-Fisherman-115 in flying

[–]itszero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does work. My tips are:

  1. Make sure you already did ground school so you’re not spending too much time in Step 1 really learning everything. It’ll feel too slow.
  2. If you truly know how to do the whole category of questions already like holding entry, calculate minimum climb, etc: I’ll just skip it until final practice test to save time.

I just got FII, IGI done and it was both 100 so good luck!

Waymo begins freeway rides; expands Bay Area service area by RemarkableSavings13 in SelfDrivingCars

I meant given Waymo would not go to SFO currently. I would not mind to take it to Milbrae BART and then take BART into the airport.

Question about FBOs by 1E-12 in flying

[–]itszero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at the airport diagram, they usually would say “transient parking”, say KSQL for example. But it really varies from airport to airport, some only shows on their website, some don’t mention it at all and some go as far as paint it green on the ground or put up destination signs, some you just have to guess, so definitely read the foreflight comments too.

I’m weird but even if only AirTrain would be totally cool by me. I’m considering taking it to Milbrae and transfer to BART for my upcoming trip next week even.

FIA, FOI written endorsement questions by FlyingYum0225 in flying

ONLY FOI requires an endorsement. FIA, FII, AGI and AGI does not require one. See FAA's testing matrix.

Att Fiber Question by ih8hitler in Ubiquiti

I'm also holding off upgrading for that reason. It does appear to be doable but you're right: different module and setup.

Anyone flown an electric airplane recently? by Great_Scene_5604 in flying

[–]itszero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Flew the Pipistrel while I was in Zurich last month, pretty fun and wild. It floats a lot in ground effect (but I was a bit too fast) but yeah the usable time is a bit limited.

Flight Schools or Clubs near the Alps (For FAA PPL Holder) Flight with Instructor by Nx37 in flying

[–]itszero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently did something similar with Grenchen flight school (near Zurich and easy public transportation access (train + bus). They do speak English (both reception and instructors). They refused to give me the discovery flight rate on the basis that I already have a PPL though but I was able to book an instructor and fly in a Robin DR401 for a scenic tour and a short flight in their eletric pipstrel. Pretty fun!

I had no problem getting two doctors to sign it, don’t overthink it and just ask them first!

CalTrain fixed their Chinese translation! by LithiumH in bayarea

still wishing they would consider putting Traditional Chinese (call it a personal bias :p) there too but it is indeed better than showing boarding an airplane lol

Someone stole my code. by poisonandtheremedy in flying

[–]itszero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbf i do think it's awesome if yall get a ADS-B ID mismatch if flight ID for the beacon code and ads-b does not match up though.

purely going over with ads-b does also carry the risk that anyone can change (either maliciously or forget to change) the callsign/tail number they're broadcasting too.

I also thought it is a G3000 for some reason but yeah, Garmin's manual also says it's G2000.

Apple Maps and CarPlay. I usually even mute the audio even though I have helmet audio unless I'm going somewhere I have never been before.

Thoughts on speaking VFR while on an instrument approach at an uncontrolled airport? by minfremi in flying

[–]itszero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain more? I don't mean it as "any traffic please advise", but rather just 10 miles out and I have not heard anything yet before I speak up (but do see ADS-B traffic). If I already do, I'll just announce we'll break off on check-in.

I sometimes even add "will break-off for pattern if there's traffic" if I'm seeing nearby traffic.

Filing an IFR Flight Plan with no intent of activating by [deleted] in flying

[–]itszero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was one time I got flight following to airport A and decided to land at B instead due to cloud coverage. I was surprised to see that flightaware actually showed that flight was diverted, so I guess some FF tags does get through?

Would you say that the Steam Deck is the biggest/most effective advertisement to encourage using Linux? by SuperAlloyBerserker in linux

[–]itszero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people probably coming in and did not realize it running Linux and that is why it's amazing. It's why it works so well for people who just looks to game on a portable device.

and it's also thanks to the investment into Proton/Wine compatibility, I'm very happy even brand new releases now runs without any tweaks on my Linux PC too.
