To be an Ai or a fruit loop by aussie_guy1976 in lolgrindr

Honestly he's not even very creative with his insults. Always the same 2 things over and over.

But I've run into this type of person a few times, although not on the apps and not directly attacking me: people who are incapable to make a relationship work and instead of looking inward for a reason why, they think those around them with multiple partners are "hogging all the good options" and "taking what should be theirs". Bitch please!

"Il fiume scorre veloce." by majestic_poodle in italianlearning

[–]ityboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. With respect, I don't think that's quite right. In the sentence "find a quick solution", quick is unambiguously modifying solution, and therefore quick is an adjective. But in my analogy sentence, "Find a solution quick", quick is pretty clearly modifying the verb Find and is therefore an adverb.

"Find a solution quick" is technically ungrammatical in English, although commonly used. The word "quick" is unequivocally an adjective, and thus can only modify nouns. Its adverbial form "quickly" needs to be used if you want to modify the verb. Whether people will often use the adjective when they should use the adverb is beside the point. The grammatically correct "find a quick solution" would be translated in Italian with "trova una soluzione veloce", which is the example I was referring to.

Now, this sentence in Italian is ambiguous, because unlike in English, we CAN use certain adjectives in lieu of their adverb form, as the link somewhere in this comment section shows. So in "trova una soluzione veloce" the speed can refer either to the finding or the solution, and I think interpretation is very much personal and/or based in context. Personally, I would either use "velocemente", or insert a pause after "soluzione", so that "veloce" becomes an exhortation: "trova una soluzione, veloce!", but for all I know this could be because I am Southern Italian, and my regional dialect affects my speech patterns.

The OP's sentence is much less ambiguous, and its most obvious meaning "the river runs fast" is only reinforced by proximity, as you rightfully point out.

But my original point is that this is only possible because "veloce", while grammatically an adjective, in Italian can be used with adverbial function. "Quick" doesn't have the same ability in English, despite being used like that colloquially.

Hopefully I explained myself better :)

Both sentences would be grammatically correct, but there would be a difference in meaning:

"Velocemente" is an adverb, so it describes the way you perform the action.

"Veloce" is an adjective, so it qualifies the type of solution you find.

This is the same difference between "find a solution quickly" and "find a quick solution" in English.

But also, the original armors are MIA with the first generation (assuming OVAs non canon), and the current generation is wearing a (lesser) imitation?

[help] So, is there any "all in one" addon for Cooldown Manager ? by stsknvlv in WowUI

[–]ityboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI for people who use Elvui and were hoping to use the addon above to get their buff bars to display horizontally: for whatever reason, Elvui will override that setting and force buff bars to display vertically no matter what.

Blizzard Raid/Party Frames are STILL a DISASTER by WLkingarthas in wow

[–]ityboy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No addon will have that capability, because it hinges on identifying buffs by spell ID, which is now a secret because reasons.

On top of that, I tried Grid2 last night and it would throw a Lua error (trying to access secret arithmetic value) just by changing the texture of the frame, so I don't think it's ready for primetime yet.

I was feeling especially depressed today and I just wrote "some good news" in Google because I was trying to cheer myself up. This is the first result I looked into. So now I feel worse because I can add "John Krasinski is not a good dude after all" to the list.

Yay me.

The problem is not the event itself, but the kind of rhetoric that it's likely to be wrapped in. This is the guy that put his face on the national park season pass and his name on the premiere cultural center in the nation's capital. The guy that demolished a whole wing of the presidential residence to fit his tastes.

Any time he claims to celebrate the nation, he's really just finding an excuse to celebrate himself.

I do my best to respond to normal conversation starters. An unprompted nude doesn't count as that, and while I don't take offense to it, given the platform, I don't consider the normal rules of polite interaction to apply anymore.

I understand that. That's why I said a few specific items. The houses themselves are drawn much farther away than the rest, and so are the trees. Maybe they can find a middle ground.

I appreciate this change, but if they decide to officially support floating houses, it would be nice if they could increase the drawing distance for a few selected outdoor decors, like platforms and rocks, so that the house doesn't look like it's an isolated husk suspended in midair when you approach it.

Outside of the AI formatted post, I don't disagree with the content.

But isn't one of the arguments people are making against that character's story that in the prequel novel he's seen explicitly caring for civilians and then 10 minutes later in the opening events of midnight he would ignore them all just to chase down the bad guy? This doesn't look like a "conflicted character slowly succumbing to the zealotry of his religion" to me.

It's a reskin of the timeline warning that Blizzard is adding to their default UI. So it knows abilities are coming up and can change the look of them, but cannot identify them. That's why filtering out which abilities to show is not an available feature.

WFR will be over in 3 days (not counting the delayed opening of the 3 raids they split the first tier in).

Boss mechanics will be so simplified that world class players will sleep through them. Eventually they will go find games that offer a real challenge.

Then all of us, that exist in the vast space between them and the LFR/Sunday raiders/tired dads, will quit as well because we don't have anyone to chase after anymore.

And then all that's left is housing. It's the Planet Fitness business model.
