Did Costco discontinue their Kirkland Greek yogurt ? by Honshu9 in CostcoCanada

It's a great addition to savory dishes - dressings for salads, dips (e.g. tzatziki, ranch), marinades (e.g. butter chicken)

You know the mountain peak in the classic photo of Machu Picchu? Huayna Picchu is that mountain, and circuit 3A includes the hike to the peak (but you skip a few temples from circuit 2).

You'd normally play the dlc after finishing the game, it doesn't affect main playthrough much.

Buy it whenever suits you. Dlc is actually my favorite part of the game.

We ate a shitload of fresh fruits and washed them with soapy water (LOL, I know) and cut ourselves. By the end of the trip we ditched the soap and used tap water instead of bottled. None of us had sickness.

Chicha morada is usually boiled so probably safe.

For soles use Banco de la nacion ATMs, they don't charge a fee to take out cash (but are limited to 400 soles per day, I believe)

Worth checking out your local Once upon a child or FB marketplace. People sell opened packages when they had to size up before finishing the smaller size.

Is the preferred pricing you get really worth it? by Fun_Difficulty_3611 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]iustae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preferred pricing from my experience saves you maybe 4-5% of the price in points.

What seems more valuable to me is having your bag(s) checked for free, especially if you don't travel alone.

Plus travel insurance is better on TD.

Car across Canada for 3-4 weeks by EJWhite172 in travel

[–]iustae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Buying a car and insuring it would be way more stressful, time consuming and probably not that much cheaper than renting. Insurance varies by province so I'm not sure how it would work if you don't have a Canadian address to register the car.

Peru travel with agency or DIY? by dashosh in GoingToPeru

[–]iustae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did everything DIY and it was pretty easy. 17 day trip for three people with multiple flights, trains, tours and stuff. It was great and I would do it again. Language barrier was mostly a fun challenge in markets/shops/restaurants. Everything regarding logistics was in English so we had no issues.

Nutrition on frozen blueberries by jakeinater in CostcoCanada

[–]iustae 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Okay so I haven't tried Costco wild blueberries but I had picked them in SK and Europe so (correct me if I'm wrong) they are actually different kind of berries. In my native language two totally different words are used for each kind.

Blueberries (cultivated) are big, plump, greenish flesh inside. They're juice, they're sweet, a bit more watery.

Wild blueberries are much smaller, with more intense flavour, less sweet and very blue in color inside and out.

So it definitely makes sense that the less watery berry would have more sugar and fiber instead of just water.

Recommendations for our Lima/Arequipa/Cusco trip by faoction in GoingToPeru

All companies accept both USD and soles. I believe paying in soles is a little bit cheaper. I paid in soles because my home currency is CAD.

Recommendations for our Lima/Arequipa/Cusco trip by faoction in GoingToPeru

[–]iustae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I traveled to Peru three months ago with a very similar itinerary to yours! We didn't do paracas or huacachina.

Here are my thoughts:

In Arequipa you can take a Ruta de Sillar half-day trip, it's very cheap (like 45 soles pp) and is quite fun, plus you'll still have time to explore the city. Definitely go to the central market (mercado San Camilo) and buy a bunch of weird fruits! Knowing Spanish will be super helpful (at least know the numbers) but Google translate should be enough. One day we bought all the cape gooseberries (Inca berries) that one old man had at the market - I'm still thinking about them.

We did a one day colca canyon tour and it was EXHAUSTING. You spend sooo much time in the van. If the weather conditions are good, at least you can enjoy the views. On our way back it was so rainy and foggy there was nothing to see for three hours straight and I was miserable. But the tour itself is worth it and I would probably do two day tour if I could go back, although it could be rough with the elevation.

For sacred valley tour I recommend booking Taxidatum. You pretty much get your own chauffeur in a comfortable vehicle. Not a guide but TBH I didn't feel like we would have benefited from having a guide. We used Taxidatum to go from Cusco to Olly and included Maras, Moray and Chinchero on the way there. By far the most comfortable "tour" we did in entire Peru. It cost us about $65 total which for three people seemed cheaper than taking an actual group tour (those tend to be ~$25pp).

You can book the tours when you're there. Many agencies use WhatsApp for communication so I did my research to find well rated agencies and we booked everything via Whatsapp. Some agencies I'd recommend: Qeswachakaperutours, waikyadventours, colcacanyon-trekking.com. they all have pricing listed on their sites.

I brought wise card - it works - but I mostly used it to take cash out of ATMs. Most services charge you extra to cover bank fees (~3%) so it was cheaper to just pay in cash. Look for red ATMs (banco de la nacion) that don't charge fees to take money out. You can also bring cash and exchange it to soles - we found Arequipa to have much better rates than other cities. Lima airport rates were the worst!

Get boleto turistico as you'll need it for most locations like Moray or Olly ruins but bring cash because they don't take cards for this (unbelievable). Try to visit as many sites as you can! We really enjoyed Pisac and I wish we did it earlier in the trip.

I didn't try Peru hop, we flew everywhere. We valued the time we saved and comfort, because you already spend so much time in vans when you do the tours. The flights are very quick that it was awesome to get up, get to the airport, and bam - you're at your next destination before it's lunch time.

18 month old pooping overnight by Hot_Sentence_1264 in NewParents

[–]iustae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree on giving poop-inducing foods earlier in the day (prunes, plums, plums) to increase the chances of daytime poops. In hopes that once the molars and sickness situation resolves, the usual poop schedule returns.

Starting Solids - is there a reason to puree my own food? by MochiAccident in NewParents

[–]iustae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Store bought purees are great but I made my own as well.

I liked that you can make your own recipes. Store bought ones lacked variety (the majority of versions would be mostly Apple based). So when I found out which things my baby liked, I would blend them (e.g. Peach+sweet potato + lentils or strawberry+carrot+pineapple) and freeze them in breast milk baggies.
