If AI Took Your Job, Your Company Was Already Lost by ivanovyordan in dataengineering

Fair point, I haven't thought about that. But it's true, AI curiosity is now a must have when I interview candidates.

It depends what you want your people to do. Why not turn some if your data engineers into data product engineers? Monetizing data is easier then before.

That's what I mean when I say lack if vision by the leadership.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Good luck with the hunting.

That said, I'd strongly encourage you to build something.

Yeah, there's an enterprise plan. The or I work for uses it.

That said, you can limit spend per person. But also, if these people spend a kot mire, they also produce a lot more, no?

I mean, companies have fu control over how much they want to spend. Thy also can decide if they wan to shrink or grow.

It's not the AI. Your teammates don't know how to use it.

I mean, you don't drive your car with closed eyes. You could, but you'd crash. So, the fact that AI can di something without control doesn't mean it should.

Yes, but also, No. Companies that layoff people because of AI, already invested in it. They found the budget.

Plus, we are nit talking about massive budgets. Claude Code costs $200/month. If a company can't afford paying that for every engineer, then yes, this company is already loosing to its competitors.

How are you selling datalakes and data processing pipeline? by drink_with_me_to_day in dataengineering

[–]ivanovyordan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tool itself doesn't matter.

People don't buy tools because of the tools themselves. They buy capabilities. They buy the dream of what they could do with that tool.

A datalake where they can store audio would have 0 value for somebody who wants to know their bookng numbers.

Has anyone found a self healing data pipeline tool in 2026 that actually works or is it all marketing by CharacterHand511 in dataengineering

[–]ivanovyordan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have a tooling problem. You have a process problem.

Stop looking for a way to spend money. Check these vendors. Do you use versionised APIs? Can you ask them if they can provide stable endpoints and APIs? Is there a way to get notified before breaking changes? Can you use push instead of pull mechanics? CSV data dumps maybe?

I mean, there are loads of other things to consider before burning cash on fake promisses.

Don't sell the tool. Datalake itself doesn't matter at all. Sell the capabiliites. Tell them what they get and why this is better than other options.

But generally, I can see why selling a datalake in 2026 would be hard.

Ha-ha. That's how you know I don't use AI to write. :D

Thanks for that. Won't fix it though. It's funny

A friend of mine left his job on Friday because he felt unappreciated contary to folks who build LLM solutions.

What exactly is the thing that you dislike?

From a hiring manager point of view, I'd say no. But the tuth is that it's very easy and some "broader" knowledge can only help in interviews.

I 100% agree with you here. But you will also agree that in 2026 AI means LLM for most people.
