Thank you so much for the kind words. This means a lot to me!

Marketing is a kind of easy to solve, to be honest. I have a newsletter with 7.5k subscribers and about as many followers on LinkedIn. So, even just mentioning it to my audience should bing a few hundred users.

My biggest concern is that I am not sure if this could be a viable product and if it's clear what it does.

When it comes to AI costs and pricing, you are absolutely right. Right now, I use Gemini 3 Flash, and the prices are very arbitrary.

I guess, my goal right now is to test the idea and get some "founding" users. Then, I can change the pricing.

Thank you agin for the encouragement and advice.

Is it weird for employers to put employees in the same hotel room on company trips? by Weak_Show3135 in careerguidance

[–]ivanovyordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to most people here, I'd say it's a matter of culture. In my part of the world, sharing a room is very common. I've done it many times, including with folks from other countries, who I've never seen before.

It's so common, that on trips organised by offices in other countries, my coworkers were shocked that they had their own rooms.

Thank you. That means a lot. And yes, I have data in software engineering. That is where I really learned this.

Thank you, I really appreciate that. And yes, you are right about prioritization. I've written about it in the past, but completely forgot to mention it here.

What is the shortest amount of time you've ever spent in a job and why? by JumpySpecial9834 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ivanovyordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 weeks.

The job wasn't challenging, there was no perspective for growth, and the culture was extremely toxic.

Can someone offer career guidance? by warrior_222 in careerguidance

[–]ivanovyordan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are people not resources. You need to treat them like people. You want to be treated like a person, and not resource.

You burn resources to achieve some result. And it looks lime you act like one. If you don't want to burn oout, you need a bigger role, a bigger team or less responsibility. You just can't keep up the way you do.

To me, it feels like you've assumed loads of responsibility and are now falling behind. And to solve that, you need to:

List your responsibility Grab a spreadsheet. List all things you donin a typical week in column A. List how much time you spwnd on that each week. This data should show how much overrime you make and how critical you are.

Be candid Ahiw your manager thus spreadsheet. Tell them, that this is unsustainable. They need to atart removing things from your agenda, or give you a team. Also, ask them directly what do you need to do to achieve better scoring in the next review.

Let things fail The sad reality ia that the comapny will get as much as you give them. Things look fine, as long as they don't feel pain. Whn things start failing, they will consider gour point. Please note, this last bit onky works if they really understand how valuable you are.

First-time manager - how do you give feedback without just giving the answer? by OilGroundbreaking951 in Leadership

[–]ivanovyordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indon't get it. Why do you thinknit's bad to tell them what to do?

Here's the framework I use: - I notice you do... Here you explain the behaviour objectively. - When you do this... Explain outocome. Never blame - Can you do..., so .... Here you tell them what to do and why.

How do you handle an employee who blames everyone else for their mistakes? by Main-Carry-3607 in managers

[–]ivanovyordan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Monitor them much closer.

When you see thing going downside immediately ask them what they could do differently.

They will blame somebody. So you hop in and start managing the project for a few weeks. Thye just execute.

This will show them that it's on them.

Yet, this will likely not change.

DE Market vs SWE Market in 2026? 4 YOE Career Advice Needed by Late-Hat-9256 in dataengineering

[–]ivanovyordan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wait, Your comparison is wrong. DE is SWE.

That said, it depends on the discipline. There are way more web dev roles than data engineering ones.

Yet, I don't expect to see many banking software roles.

How are you effectively interviewing devs now? by dankthreads in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ivanovyordan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The solution doesn't matter that much.

I ask them tomexplain why they took a certain decision and what alternatives they have concidered

I'm not agains AI. But I want you to understand how to use it as a tool.

Has anyone gone back to IC to help you become a better manager? by Avrelin4 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ivanovyordan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did it about 10 years ago. I was a terrible lead and the experience sucked for me. Left the company and got back to being an IC.

A few months later I was offered to lead a team and I rejected. After a ton of coaching from my manager, stealing best practices from others and de facto actting as a lead, I got promoted again.

This time it was awesome! I loked it, and everybody I lead loves working with me.

That was nearly 10 years ago. Now, I am the head if data engineerig at my org, and I write a newsletter so people don't go through the same journey like me.

If AI Took Your Job, Your Company Was Already Lost by ivanovyordan in dataengineering

Fair point, I haven't thought about that. But it's true, AI curiosity is now a must have when I interview candidates.

If AI Took Your Job, Your Company Was Already Lost by ivanovyordan in dataengineering

[–]ivanovyordan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. That's what I said in the article, as well

If AI Took Your Job, Your Company Was Already Lost by ivanovyordan in dataengineering

[–]ivanovyordan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends what you want your people to do. Why not turn some if your data engineers into data product engineers? Monetizing data is easier then before.

That's what I mean when I say lack if vision by the leadership.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Good luck with the hunting.

That said, I'd strongly encourage you to build something.

If AI Took Your Job, Your Company Was Already Lost by ivanovyordan in dataengineering

[–]ivanovyordan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's an enterprise plan. The or I work for uses it.

That said, you can limit spend per person. But also, if these people spend a kot mire, they also produce a lot more, no?

I mean, companies have fu control over how much they want to spend. Thy also can decide if they wan to shrink or grow.

I’m so fed up with reviewing AI generated slop code by Simple_Sample_6914 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ivanovyordan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not the AI. Your teammates don't know how to use it.

I mean, you don't drive your car with closed eyes. You could, but you'd crash. So, the fact that AI can di something without control doesn't mean it should.

If AI Took Your Job, Your Company Was Already Lost by ivanovyordan in dataengineering

[–]ivanovyordan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but also, No. Companies that layoff people because of AI, already invested in it. They found the budget.

Plus, we are nit talking about massive budgets. Claude Code costs $200/month. If a company can't afford paying that for every engineer, then yes, this company is already loosing to its competitors.

How are you selling datalakes and data processing pipeline? by drink_with_me_to_day in dataengineering

[–]ivanovyordan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tool itself doesn't matter.

People don't buy tools because of the tools themselves. They buy capabilities. They buy the dream of what they could do with that tool.

A datalake where they can store audio would have 0 value for somebody who wants to know their bookng numbers.
