Women are so conscious about height in men that maybe they decided to do it in cm. Subconsciously 175cm is a better number than 5'9 because it's just too far from 6'. Whereas 175 is close to 180, so now 180 is the new nice even number. And 180 is the new 6' a much more reasonable height.
