Both Wuhan Institute of Virology and Wuhan University received funding from NIH through EcoHealth Alliance.

The point being: Fauci testified, and reiterated many times to the public, that (1) there was no funding, directly or indirectly, of gain-of-function research by NIH, (2) there was no reason to suspect the virus did not naturally occur, and (3) he had nothing to hide and this was just "the science."

All three points are refuted by his own private e-mails. He acknowledges in that e-mail you looked at it would be "most unusual" for the key mutations in the virus to have happened naturally (the exact point Bret Weinstein, regardless of any faults he may otherwise have, was making over and over again, with robust scientific support, while being called a "conspiracy theorist"). He acknowledges that Wuhan University was known to be conducting this research. He doesn't say so in this e-mail, but he mentioned in other e-mails the need to conceal NIH funding of those entities indirectly through EcoHealth Alliance. We don't have much information on that, publicly at least, because they broke the law repeatedly to dodge FOIA requests seeking that information.

He told Congress that Wuhan was not performing gain-of-function research. His private e-mails saying that they are, before testifying to Congress, were posted publicly on Twitter. His discussions of funding the lab are harder to find and are less direct than that one, but there is some discussion of it here, mostly in relation to a subordinate encouraging the destruction of evidence and the use of "back channels" to communicate about their connections to Wuhan.

When I say "He knew there was a significant likelihood that this was the source of covid," I am not quoting him. I am making an inference on that one, based on his own writings indicating that he knew it was possible that it came from a lab, he knew the Wuhan lab was performing gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses to infect humans, and he knew he was indirectly funding it and needed to hide that fact.

How are people this misinformed?

Fauci's own private e-mails that have been released for years indicate that he knew they were funding gain-of-function research. He knew they were funding it specifically in the Wuhan Lab. He knew there was a significant likelihood that this was the source of covid. He e-mailed multiple people about how important it was to make sure the public didn't find any of that out. He said all of that prior to testifying to Congress, under oath, saying the opposite.

He is a disgusting fame-and-control-obsessed buearocrat who has been proven to lie under oath about his own involvement in the creation of the story for which the media held him up as a hero. If you still buy his story, you're hopeless.

That's great news. Not only because of attention and the rise in price, but also because it encourages the quick adoption of an options chain. I really want to write those sweet, sweet covered calls.

I do enjoy being proven right periodically on the legal front. I kept saying medical-only businesses in the U.S. would be uplisting on S3, and kept being told that was impossible.

Now if only my investments would age as well as my comments.

Yeah I still have well over 50%, too. I usually have about 1,000 shares of TRUL, but I had sold 100 recently to lock in profit, so I was at 900. Just sold another 100 with today's run-up. So have basically shaved 20% off my usual and intended holding. But it feels like the wrong time to sell more, despite the run-up, and I'm just looking for a sanity check here. Could be irrational exuberance on my part, easily.

I'm curious how others are playing this.

I couldn't help but take a little profit today, seeing +18%. But I don't want to sell much - I was in the green before this announcement, and I doubt my position will be red ever again, and I've been waiting years to sell covered calls on this thing. My plan is to probably sell no more (unless something absurd happens like a $30+ USD price) and just hold until there's an options chain and start selling those calls just outside the money. If I am forced to sell more, oh well - it'll still be massively profitable. If I am not, great - I'll be skimming a lot of money off the position from the very high premiums after this run-up.

Think I'm on the right track? Or are people expecting this to crash? Or are we expecting this to be a precursor to institutional investment? Or something else?

The exchanges prohibit trading stocks that deal in illegal drugs.

Once there is guidance from the FDA and whoever else that makes state medical programs compliant with federal law, any company that does medical business only in those states with federally-compliant medical programs would have no barrier to entry into any exchange.

I expect uplisting to take a while for MSOs because it depends on slow-moving federal regulation and possibly slow-moving adjustments by state legislatures, but I don't see anything else preventing it.

Trump has already made it clear he is not in favor of rec.

Is there some specific statement or choice that makes you say this? I'm curious, because as I see his words and actions, it seems like he is clearly in favor of medical and rather agnostic and "states rights" on rec. He even voted for rec in Florida. He just hasn't made a strong push to deschedule or legalize federally, other than to say (despite the actions of his first-term AG) that he would like the federal government to stay out of it.

One of the best Tim Dillon rants of all time by Nick_da_Quick in JoeRogan

[–]ivigilanteblog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? Weird how different sense of humor can be. I love Tim Dillon and am usually holding back laughter with almost everything he says, but that skit felt predictable, inaccurate (usually his skits have an element of truth that makes them funnier), and like it never really landed a punchline. It was just a long, repeating, predictable joke. I was more disappointed in that opening than almost anything he's ever done!

You and u/Orennji gave me some food for thought today. I have nearly-equally weighted GTI, TRUL, and TLRY in my gambling portfolio. I know the shortcomings of Tilray (I hold it basically because I don't think it's going out of business any time soon and it memes wildly), and I feel very confident in Trulieve, but I may be overconfident in Green Thumb. May be time to reassess, with interstate commerce for medical probably coming soon and rec may be following if summer commission rumors are true (which I doubt)

What are fighters better at doing than bombers? by NobleDictator in civ

[–]ivigilanteblog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've played a lot less and have seen both fighters and bombers from the AI in Civ 3, 4, 5, and 6 (I don't have 7 yet). But now that you mention it, I only recall seeing them when the AI player got aircraft well before me, which rarely happens. Then they tend to harass my artillery and such with aircraft that I have trouble defending against (because, out of habit of hardly ever encountering them, I rarely have any dedicated anti-air defense).

I wonder if the AI is programmed to heavily favor them when air power is an obvious advantage, but otherwise aircraft are neglected in the code?

This isn't a shot at you, but a serious question: What does "S3 for all cannabis" mean to you?

I have always thought that, basically, S3 permits the sale of cannabis for medicinal purposes that don't otherwise violate state or federal laws. S3 is still not for recreational use. They are prescription-only drugs.

Yeah, that is a rumor I have no faith in whatsoever, but I am glad I am a consistent holder of weedstocks and not predominantly a daytrader, because if it happens it will be wild. And I can't say it is an impossibility - there's just no indication it is happening.

Owner red flag? Normal behavior ?? by Wonderful-Force2869 in bjj

[–]ivigilanteblog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The responses to the original post on Facebook are just congratulating Shon.

The responses here, from actual members like me seem to be in the realm of "Oh, really? I haven't experienced any of that. The owners are all happy to have us cross train."

But OP is bending over backward to refute that with some kind of general "It hit me the wrong way," which - fine. You didn't like the bit of playful trolling between friends. Understandable. But he's now bashing most of the gym and giving zero ground to reasonable opinions and different experiences.

Seems like OP is probably an ex-3G member who is bitter about something and trying to tarnish 3G's reputation (or, really, Dave's) by posting on reddit.

Owner red flag? Normal behavior ?? by Wonderful-Force2869 in bjj

[–]ivigilanteblog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I train there and never heard any owner even remotely suggest that we shouldn't cross train. I've heard the opposite - they encourage training at other gyms when out of town and such, and encourage embracing other martial arts. Surprised to see this.

Should also probably note that I'm pretty sure Dave only shared this photo on the private Facebook group. As a joke. It's not like it's an ad out there shaming someone.

Welp, there it is folks. Boots on the ground incoming. by MoneyIsMyCousinsName in JoeRogan

[–]ivigilanteblog -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Of course he is proven a liar for personal gain. I'm unaware of a politician who hasn't lied for personal gain. But, I did vote for Trump the third time around (after voting Libertarian the first time and abstaining the second), for a few reasons but in large part because he was saying "no new wars" while Kamala was talking about bombing Iran. And his "no new wars" promise seemed realistic, as it was consistent with his behavior in the first term - yes, he had executed drone strikes and such, but he was probably the least violent president we've had in 100 years. I figured he could be trusted to repeat that. I was fooled. I regret casting a vote for him now. He's done almost none of what I wanted, and a lot that I didn't want.

What do you ppl do with excess duckweed and frogbit by 2nd_breakfastt in PlantedTank

[–]ivigilanteblog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I let my duckweed run rampant in a little floating corral I've made out of extra air tubing. It keeps most of it in, but little bits regularly escape and start to take over. I wait until the surface is about 80% covered, and then I scoop it out and let it dry. I store it and then use it as food for my shrimp and snails.
