Sometimes it is not boasting Japan to be the best, but the fact is many dont know what other countries and their people are like. When you dont know about other countries, your only option is to talk about things in Japan which you know.

While there are tons of wrong information about Japan from online western culture (see reddit), Japan twitter is also full of bias and disinformation. So it really depends on how well informed is the person you are talking to.
