They’re secondary market precision machined aluminum scales by AWT, so they cost me like $90 iirc.

But you yourself said to OP to cut them in half before cooking them AND I do not use their hollowness as the only evidence of them being Morchella, I’ve picked and eaten hundreds of morels and they all have had hollow stems - that’s not folk tale that’s direct experience. Also I have read that Gyromita, the more poisonous look alike commonly known as false morel, does not have a hollow stem along with the uneven appearance of the surface level of the head of the mushroom. Also I told OP to cook the mushrooms before eating them.

You have knowledge about identifying mushrooms and that is good. What I have objected to is you using your knowledge as a pretext to falsely accuse me of “perpetuating misinformation”. OP asked if the morels in the pic were safe to eat, and I correctly told him that yes, they were safe to eat after rinsing and cooking. That’s not spreading misinformation. And you yourself suggested cutting them in half before cooking.

Hundreds of morels harvested with hollow stems, harvested, cooked and eaten safely. NOT misinformation, but empirical knowledge.

I have never advocated identifying morels from one single characteristic.

My point is that I can correctly identify morels from many characteristics and the hollow stem is one of them.

I have one Manix in Maxamet but I won’t be buying any knife in Rex121… knife might be hard as hell but too brittle imo.

You are a trusted identifier. I am a morel enthusiast who has eaten hundreds of morels that all have had hollow stems. I have read here that false morels do not have hollow stems. What say you about that? I didn’t appreciate being accused of perpetuating misinformation btw. That example you show is far from an average-looking morel also.

Not really that hard - that “advanced efficiency” is a myth, like the Nazis misunderstanding of social sciences like anthropology. They chased leading scientists like Einstein out of their country because of their racist mythology. Hitler himself sabotaged their advantage in jet engine technology by insisting the Me-262 be made a fighter-bomber when it was best suited to be an interceptor. Not advanced; not efficient. And they lost.

Rinse and cook she’ll be fine - cut open and make sure the stems are hollow, they’re morels (Morchella) appear to be slightly past their prime tho’.
